<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>la_scaloneta</b></div><div>Yeah but you will also need to find replacement for Brodie, Murray/Samsonov, add a legit 3C so those pieces will cost maybe 15-20 million in total. Add 34+88 getting around 30 million, JT's 11, Rielly's 7.5, Sandin-Liljegren extensions, that's around 75 million dollars in cap space taken up already.</div></div>
I’m not going to pretend to know what the Leafs will do, especially long term. But I’d assume Murray’s deal will be moved and Sammy will be extended with Woll backing up. Brodie may resign on a cheaper final deal, so most of his 5m goes to Lilly or Sandin extensions. That’s if they don’t move one of them. Again if you lose a star because you spent too much on a 3C then that’s a screw up on management. JTs deal is off the books the same year marners new on kicks in. They’ll figure it out, they won’t be moving stars because of the cap. Now if they lose in the first round and make a change at Gm, that’s a different story.

Oh there will be other offers and he will be moved forsure. Highly doubt Sandin will be offered for him as he holds more value than a rental on D imo. But if you insist that he wouldn’t fit the Blue Jackets team that’s fine. I’m just curious what “skillset” or “experience” it is that he doesn’t fit? A young puck moving dman that actually throws the body a bit, seems like that type of player would fit most rebuilding teams no?

Have you looked at their page though? They have very few players signed that year. 3 forwards total right now. Every move they make from now till then will be with Matthews, Marner and Nylander deals in mind. The Tavares deal coming off the books the same year as marners will cover all 3. If they end up needing to move Marner to make room for those extensions then they completely screwed up lol.

The Leafs have nothing but cap space when Matthews and Nylanders new deals start, by design. Also that trade isn’t even a conversation starter value wise for marner.

Pretty sure the Jackets would do Gavrikov for Sandin 1-1 and wouldn’t hesitate. Sandin would be Columbus’s what, 2nd best dman after this deal? At 22 years old.. seems like a no brainer to me. Why would you prefer a late 1st round pick that needs 2-3 years to develop over a young player you already know can play well in the NHL. Who also happened to be a late first round pick..

Larkin to TOR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyIsMyPassion61</b></div><div>If Yzerman even considered moving Larkin to Toronto, rental or not the offer would be 50 times better than this. Yzerman isn't moving Larkin without it being a massive overpay. That's already been reported. Yzerman only moves Larkin for a huge haul.</div></div>
I mean a pretty close comparable just happened with Horvat. That will set the market for a rental 1st line player at the deadline. Hirvonen definitely wouldn’t be the prospect in the deal, it’d have to be a better one. Especially if it’s the 2024 1st. But the framework would be similar to Horvat, 1st, A-/B+ prospect, and a pick or young NHL roster player. I agree, I don’t think he moves him.

Larkin to TOR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyIsMyPassion61</b></div><div>:laugh Once again Horvat was traded from the Western Conference to the Eastern Conference, Larkin would be traded within the division hence a greater return. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. If Allvin/Rutherford had traded Horvat to Seattle the ask would've been far more greater than being traded to the islanders.
Frankly getting sick and tired of the Horvat comparison for Larkin, They're under two different circumstances.</div></div>
Why would Inter-division make a big difference for a rental trade? The wings won’t be seeing the Leafs in the playoffs this year and the Leafs would have a heck of a time signing Larkin long term. Maybe they’d make them add an extra late pick for the “divisional tax”, but the wings would take the best offer available who cares from where. That’s if they even decided to move him. My opinion is Stevie Y will keep Larkin into the summer and sign him.

Lots going on here, but Arizona wouldn’t take up two of their retention slots for that long of term. If they did it’d probably cost quite a bit more than that.

If you’re trolling then excellent work, if you’re serious you need to re evaluate. No rental will go for that, that’s more than the Chychrun ask. Meier is a better fit and RFA controlled and the reported ask is very similar to the Horvat deal. You won’t find a rental that fetched that much cause it’s not even in the ballpark.

If they had a 1st on the table and decided to take that instead that’d be fine. In this scenario I wouldn’t be offering one. If Lafferty costs about a 3rd, that’d mean I offered a 2nd, prospect and meh young NHL ready player. So that should at least be close.. prospect can be changed like I said.

Nearly 3 GAA and a career save percentage of .909. Hes shown flashes of being unbelievable but as many stretches of being average or below. He's also only played more than 40 games once in his career. I think Demko would be better on a better team but I also am not sure how much better. He's not as consistent as you guys like to say.
Niemela fast becoming a reclamation project is just not having any idea what the player is.</div></div>
I actually completely agree with your assessment of Demko. When I looked at his numbers I was kinda surprised by them not being all that special. That’s why I kinda thought that might even be too much to give up and said I wouldn’t start with Niemela. I do think he’d be great with a more defensive team and good health. But as it goes with goalies that deal is definitely the biggest gamble of the 3 by far.

It’s close for Buchnevich imo, obviously not going to be exact. Might need another prospect, idk I’m not expecting to nail the exact values. I’d understand if they preferred a forward. If that was the case the prospect would have to be Knies.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>Just not realistic to expect to upgrade 4 positions, especially 3 “high value” positions in top 6 forward, top 4 D, & goal. Demko absolutely not required; Leafs committed to Murray & Samsonov for this year & no need to panic now - so far so good. Will need a 1st to land McCabe (with retention) which you’ll have from voiding demko trade. Puchnevic won’t be available (ditto for koneckny or any young top 6 forward with term) so I think Leafs have to look for vet rentals instead.
A top 4 D and a top 6W or 3C would be great adds at TDL imo.</div></div>
I agree the McCabe trade may require a better asset or another one. As for the rest this post isn’t what I think the leafs will do. No one knows. As I said this is what I would do if I were gm and was going to go all in. Murray has been decent this year, but if Demko is healthy he’s a top goalie in the league. He would allow us to go into a series against any team and be close to equal or better in net. There’s no reason a top 6 forward with term wouldn’t be available from somewhere, but we really don’t know. That’s why I said “if he’s available”.

The deferred 1st is ok on one hand.
Verdict: No</div></div>
Calling Niemela a “reclamation project” cause you’re only looking at his box scores is something. He’s a 20 year old RHD playing in a men’s league in Finland. He had a fantastic season last year by the box scores, and his underlying numbers have improved this season. His point totals have dropped but most prospect writers still consider him a top 4 ceiling, bottom pair floor prospect. He’s not an elite prospect but sure isn’t a reclamation project lol.

Personally don’t like the Manson or jack signings. Too much risk in the term of the Jack deal imo. But you’re probably close on the $ he will get on the open market. Also the issue with the trade is that you can’t trade those three in one move. The total return might be somewhat close but no team will want all 3 together.

I think we still need to be patient with him, he’s a ppg player in the AHL at 20. He probably will stick next year, but even if he doesn’t he still has all the tools to turn into a scoring middle sixer. His brother wasn’t in the NHL at this point in his career either.
