I think there will be a lot of LTIR gymnastics on day 1. Let’s see how they play it. I was just speculating and seeing what the options were in order to maximize LTIR flexibility.

I heard that his back will keep him out through October. This was just an exercise to see if they could maximize LTIR flexibility

Oh boy
The Habs have the cap space and draft capital to use as weapons. Canucks need D with OEL gone and Bear out until at least January. The Canucks need the 3.15m in cap space and Boeser needs a change. He will never reach his potential in Vancouver

Too many assumptions need to fall exactly into place for this to possibly happen. If for example both Price and Byron are healthy to start the season they’d have to move out Byron, Dadanov, Allen and Drouin for low draft picks just to squeeze it all in. It would go totally against what they’re trying to do in Montreal. I’d do it though if MT agreed.

A good start. I wonder what Savard and Hoffman could net. I would guess just a couple of 2nd round draft picks.

KK onboard
He just might as a LW with his fellow Finns to get him comfortable and see what he can do. I'd try him out there at least to see if there could possibly be more balance and chemistry through the forward group. The D is a question mark. Each player will have to take a step forward and hopefully Deangelo can be managed and contribute what he's capable of without upsetting the locker room dynamics.

Manson
Looking to next year as it stands right now it gives MTL flexibility to sign who they need to going forward. I'd let Chiarot and Manson go (replacing them with Norlinder and a cheaper UFA signing), sign Suzuki long term ($7.5m X 8y), Romanov to a $2m X 2y bridge, Lehky and Evans to small raises for 1-2yrs each, and the scratches to under $1m each X 1y if they've worked out. Hopefully some of the other young forwards make strides this year in Laval and 1 or 2 can make the jump to the NHL (Ylonen, Vejdemo, Teasdale, etc.).

Eichel
After yesterday’s press release by Eichel’s agents the price just dropped significantly. The trade I propose above is just about the most they will now get for him. Byron going on LTIR until the new year basically gives the team an extra $2m cushion, so you can assume about $2.4m in cap space based on the 22 man roster above. They may carry 23 a some points during the season but don’t be surprised to see the daily recalls and assignments back and forth cap gymnastics with Laval like we saw this year in order to maximize cap space. It’s pretty much a guarantee that the roster they have now will not be the one they open the season with. Expect a major trade or 2. For example, I just plugged in a potential trade for Josh Manson that is definitely a premium to what he’s worth, but the trade fits with what each team is trying to accomplish at this stage.

Habs roster 2021-22 prediction
I agree with Danault @ 6, but for 5 years. Lehkonen, Armia and KK should each be around the same 2.8-3.0 range for 3 years. I’d give Perry an extra year and even take it up to 1.5. Brassard would be a good addition at that price. Option B would be bringing Staal back for around the same price. I agree with enticing the Kraken to take Jo. Would even sweeten it by upping it to one of the 2nd round picks instead. The bonus overages to tack on are approximately 65k, so no biggie. Leaves about 1.5 in cap space to work with during the year.

I’d sign Perry and Staal each for 2 years @ 1-1.5m each. They each brought so much to the table during the playoffs.

Danault should make the same as Chiarot and Edmundson
He will end up getting $5.5m X 6 in the end to stay in Mtl. That’s just logical at this point. Without him they would not have made it out of the first round. Anyone who knows anything about hockey will agree.

In fact, that price is so steep that I wouldn’t even include Harris. MB would be overpaying quite a bit. A more prudent trade would be for a solid D on an smaller expiring contract. A Jon Merrill type.

I’ve also tweaked the lines and D pairings a bit. Armia looked great with Tuna and Danault. Gally would really spark Suzuki and Drouin and create more space for them, and KK with the studs could be lethal. They’d also have the best 4th line in the division by a long shot. Ekholm and Weber would be an ideal match, and the other 2 pairs have already proven chemistry. Chiarot can take his time healing and slot into Kulak’s spot next to Romanov when ready. Looking at the Kraken expansion draft the 3 protected D could be Petry, Ekholm and Edmudsson. Weber’s and Chiarot’s cap hits would be too much to take on for the Kraken, or they can expose Evans and protect Weber now by going the 8F/D route.

Maybe he doesn’t sign, however when Harris was asked exactly that question last week he only sang the praises of the Habs. With a resetting Preds team he’ll have an even better chance of joining the NHL sooner rather then later.
