the reckoning is coming for the Leafs. They really blew it with all those massive contracts. They were given a generational talent in Matthews but instead became a cautionary tale.
The Habs in a parallel universe sign PLD to a massive deal and the leafs walk away from Tavares. I wonder which universe the Leafs are better off?!?
Just sit back and enjoy their decline

No you don’t .
The offer starts with an A to A+ prospect/young player for Brady.
That offers lacks so much quality it’s not even funny. Don’t want Cristall . TVR is okay but not worth anything in this trade

Like you already said, he’d have to 100% come with an extension. He’s a superstar player but it’s just a high risk high reward type trade for Montreal

It would also leave the Habs with all their young dcore, Caufield, Slaf and Newhook. That trade would instantly put the Habs in playoff contention and they'd still have cap space to add significantly.</div></div>
Wouldn’t we better off waiting to see if Drai hits the open market and make a bid for him there? It’s just a risky trade for the Habs with the state their in right now
But I do agree with a lot of what you said

He's an okay depth guy, but you need to <strong>take the time to educate yourself on trade values</strong> with some comparables. Players like that don't return the haul you are expecting.</div></div>
The irony...

My best Guess
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>If he had top 4 potential, he might be of interest. He obviously doesn't as this is the 2nd team to give up on him and Barron can't crack the top 4 of an awful team.
Bottom pairing defenseman are plentiful, easy to find and never require a high second in return.</div></div>
Dude just stop, we get it. You're a Hab hater. The PLD shenanigans on here from Hab fans must have bothered you on some personal level or something. You kept calling Monahan a "4th line center on the Jets" for months, then got eerily quiet once WPG gave MTL their 1st rd pick for him, which looks to be a bargain at this point.
Barron most certainly has top 4 written all over him. He already has that skill offensively, and just needs to continue improving on his defensive game. Saying both COL and MTL gave up on him is just wrong, even Sakic said he didn't want to trade Barron when he acquired Lehkonen and continued by saying (I'm paraphrasing) you have to give quality to get quality. Habs simply have better prospects with higher all-around potential that makes Barron expendable.
As for this trade, MTL would be the ones refusing, they have too many bottom 6 forwards already, adding Kupari does nothing for them, and although MTLs 2nd is a nice asset, MTL have zero need to be adding more draft picks, unless they plan to flip it. but at that point, MTL could just use Barron to include in a package deal for what they are looking for.

Trading up
The gap in quality players available at 5-6 overall vs 16th overall is huge, and definitely not worth moving down just to get rid of Anderson.
Habs don't have any cap issues, they could bury Anderson with no impact to their salary structure and happily keep 5-6 overall.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>Great, doesn't change that it's an overpayment.
I agree the Jets won't have trouble signing him but walking him this close to being a FA will always carry a risk and if the managements plan doesn't align with the players, that will cause a problem. Look at cutter and Philly, don't think that will happen here but it is the risk that Jets management is taking</div></div>
And I agree! Don't get me wrong, I don't like the deal for either side. There is a bit more of a risk I guess but like you said as well, I don't think that will happen with McGroarty. If it does...I will eat my words and cry.

My best Guess
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>I don't see Montreal players with the want bias you do, I see then as they actually are. He's a bottom pairing (at best) defenseman. As you say maybe even a career AHL'er. He's not returning a bottom 6 forward and a high 2nd. Two teams have given up on Barron now and he can't crack one of the worst defenses on a team with very little depth. He has no value to a good team with excellent defense like Winnipeg. Both pieces on their own have more value than Barron.
Barron needs waivers to be sent down next season as I understand from Montreal fans and what Cap Friendly says, so he'll and up on waivers next season at some point.</div></div>
Thats just a bad take. Barron will be a regular next year. Kovacevic and Harris/Struble will be traded, Savard too at the deadline. RHD is the highest valued asset in the league and Barron hasnt been perfect but hasnt been bad at all. They've used the fact he wasnt waiver eligible because they have 8 nhl caliber defenseman and need to rotate, but they'll clearly make room this summer. The 3 starting RHDs should be Reinbacher, Barron and Mailloux by the end of next year. I dont think they'll trade him, he's more valuable on the ice than what he can get on the market (which would be more than rasumus "1 assist in 27 games" kupari)

Barron is 100% gone IMO. Mailloux has simply passed him. Think they're gonna trade him for a similar-aged forward (The likes of Tomasino, Holloway, etc.)
As for Harris, I think he'll stick around one more season and Struble will be down because of his waivers exemption.

Agreed. I would make that offer as the Anaheim GM without the third (pick #65) and with top-10 protection on the first.

I wouldn't say any of these are necessarily better but they would be "free": Montour, Tanev, Pesce, DeMelo, Roy, Walker.
That being said, we'll see how many of those <em>actually</em> reach free agency.

Because some people (very small minority now) are still obsessed with the "French connection" for the Habs..... it's really nothing more than that.
Slafkovsky is literally trending (and Slaf also said it himself to be modeling his game after) to be like Rantanen. There is zero chance MTL moves him. But I'm sure NYR have their own reason why Lafreniere is also 100% off the table.
