Giving a 1st to Montreal
Savard with retention would cost a 1st.
Savard without retention probably nets a 2nd or 3rd, in which case they probably see his experience and value in showing the young guys the way probably outweighs the value of the pick and they respectfully decline.
As for Xhekaj, probably another 1st minimum. Think they are very reluctant to trade him as he is quite unique.

The cap dump who scored 40 goals last year yeah. It’s also lacking quality in the prospects. And it includes 2 additional pieces to the team acquiring Monahan that the Lindholm trade did not.

You don’t honestly think that’s equivalent to a Lindholm package, do you?

Quite surprised you value Henrique that much more than Monahan.
Insiders have made it pretty clear the order of preference for most teams is Lindholm, Monahan, Henrique.
Monahan also costs 1/3 if Henrique and yet the offer for Henrique includes two of Avs top 5 prospects above and beyond the Monahan offer.
Interesting. Anaheim smash accepts and when that occurs, you got got.
Hopefully for Montreal the Henrique trade happens first because the market for Monahan goes bananas then

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>That's right.
Much like Arizona in 2021, Ottawa loses their own 1st round pick for either 2024, 2025 or 2026.
Vegas doesn't receive anything.
I only picked Vegas here because there's no better option in AGM.</div></div>
That’s what I thought, thanks for clarifying.
Vegas is definitely most suitable to pick as they seem to have pushed the agenda pretty hard.

Very confident that if healthy at the deadline, Monahan will fetch more than that based on comparables in recent seasons.

Everything here looks pretty reasonable.
But just to clarify, Vegas doesn’t actually get Ottawas forfeited first, right?

Easy pass - yes
Keeping savard - unlikely. Just not trading him at 50% retained for 2 5ths lol
Do people not understand that teams can only retain on 3 contracts at a time. The Habs have already retained on 2 through July 1 2024 (Petry and Edmundson) and Petrys runs until 2025. Retaining on Savard or anybody else takes them out of a retained salary deal until July 1. Hughes has expressed in the pst (last year) that he wants that slot available at the draft if possible. Therefore he definitely won’t do it for such an inconsequential return lol

Like both trades, logical for all 3 teams involved and reasonable compensation all around.
And I could see Guentzel fitting in and being extended for sure.

I have to ask - do you know how retention works? Teams are limited to 3 salary retention slots at once.
Kent Hughes is absolutely not burning a retention slot over 225k to acquire Ryan Johansen lol

But being a great GM is about seeing beyond the last 30 games. This guy put up between 70 and 115 points over 5 straight years when paired with quality linemates. Anderson has stone hands, and is at BEST a 20 goal guy, with zero playmaking ability. Huberdeau COULD, and I highlight COULD, be worth a lot more. Anderson's ceiling is clear.
The worst contract of the Cap era...... way way way too early to tell that. It's a bad deal, for sure. But the worst? Really cannot make that claim yet. I think it's worth a shot for the incremental dollars.</div></div>
Well if he’s that good, Flames should just keep him? Right?

Here take our 3rd goalie and a player we don’t want or have room for and give us some stability in net/perfect mentor for our young guys and a veteran C on a low AAV

This is likely part of the reason why there was a significant overpayment in picks and prospects.
Look at the Debrincat to Ottawa return and then compare.

Monahan cannot be traded back to Calgary with retained salary as he was on their roster in the last calendar year. Also applies to Dadonov to Vegas. They can be re-acquired but not with retained salary.

In an instant to get rid of the Price contract. LTIR or not, given the option you’re certainly better off without it.
The question is, would Florida have 10.5M in cap space to acquire the Price contract? Ned to have the room to acquire him even if it’s temporarily before moving him to LTIR.

That’s a great stat Cherry pick but over his career he has seen the following 82 game paces 35, 39, 45, 45, 48. And thankfully GMs are smarter than you and realize that hockeydb doesn’t tell the full story on a player like Dvorak.

Realistic Move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>McSorley</b></div><div>See the Alec Martinez trade... Significantly better, numerous OT winners in big playoff games, had another year on his contract and he went for two 2nd round picks.. Where did Vegas put him? Top pair. Edmondson is similar to Maatta in the sense that Detroit fans think he's a legit 2LD, yet where did he play last season even in the playoffs? 3rd pair behind Edler. Same with Edmondson, on a crappy team playing top 4 minutes, as soon as he plays a game for the Kings, he'll be on the 3rd pair.
Edmondson is not worth anything more than a 2nd round pick with 50% retention at the deadline and even that's pushing it. Habs fans seem to think that because a team overpaid for Chiarot and Tampa over pays for every deadline acquisition that the rest of the mediocre players will be traded for the same price during the deadline and that's ridiculous.</div></div>
Yeah and Gavrikov is on the verge of being traded for a ridiculous return also. So I guess by your logic he must be going to tampa or Florida lol

Realistic Move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Sure did, and usually got deals on them. Blake also hasn’t spent much on rentals due to the cap issues. Keep in mind, you didn’t refute the fact he’s been an awful defenseman. I’m not saying Edmundson can’t get a haul, just don’t expect it from the Kings.</div></div>
No I’m well aware I didn’t refute that. But I’ve seen lots of “bad” (I use that term loosely given he plays 20 minutes a night for a bad team) defencemen who appear to not be so good in the regular season but become beasts in the playoffs ( yes there’s a precedent for that, multiple years) go for big returns at the deadline. Also, please note Edmundson has another year left at a pretty reasonable number of MTL were to retain 50%, so not a true rental.
