Shame, he would bring some needed items to the Rangers. But that contract is way too long for way too much, especially considering his production has been trending down.
I see Nashville wanting too much in order to retain enough salary for it to make sense.

oilers adding off season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Over the past 2 years, Koskinen posted a .910 save percentage to Georgiev's .908. And Koskinen's mark was dragged down by the beginning of 20-21 when Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant the that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule - 12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 timezones - which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.
If you pull those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances, his save percentage over the past two seasons is .916, well above Georgiev's .908.
And before you blame NYR's defense, know that Koskinen faced 32.60 shots/60 to Georgiev's 31.99 SA/60 in all situations, and 32.34 SA/60 vs Georgiev's 31.03 at 5v5. Its not quality of shots either, as Koskinen has faced 8.50 HDSA/60 while Georgiev has faced 7.46.
So while Georgiev has some upside due to being just 25, in the short term I see this trade as a downgrade for Edmonton.</div></div>
Not sure why I'm being quoted in this, I'm on your side! lol

Rumors
There was some interest in Grant, but with Goodrow, Rooney and Barron breathing down their necks, there's enough competition for the 4C.
Volkov is an interesting player, but the Rangers already have two unproven kid RW's, they would look to add a more proven commodity if they pick up a RW.
Rangers already piled up a bunch of bruisers, Deslaurier doesn't do much else so he wouldn't break the lineup beyond Cap and Isle games.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RoyalBlueSabres</b></div><div>I understand where you are coming from. But Eichel is under contract for 5 years.
It is better to keep him then help a contender win a championship to get pennies on the dollar in return.
If teams don't wanna pony up that's fine. But Buffalo can just hold onto Eichel until his contract runs out</div></div>
They could, but I don't think Sabre fans as a whole would accept this. They'd eventually tire of it and would rather see him moved for some value than to have him sit and rot and lose value by the day. Not moving this type of asset to rebuild the team doesn't do anything for the organization, specifically an asset that seems to have no intention of playing for the team again.

How are you trading a bona-fide 1c top 5-6 in the league. For pieces that won't even result in top line players. Please make it make sense</div></div>
I am by no means saying this is fair value, I agree it isn't.
But...a lot of people keep making the mistake of measuring Eichel's value like he isn't broken and demanding off the crazy train...
The longer Buffalo keeps demanding full value, the longer this is going to drag on and the lower his value will be. If I were the Rangers, I'd put out a statement that they've moved on. Most of the other suitors have already filled their needs elsewhere.
If they allow camps to open, or even worse the season starts? $h!t show!

Agreed. The Rangers point to a lot of guys as untouchables, but EVERYONE can't be untouchable.
I would say Kakko and Laffy are, as well as Miller and Fox. After that, they are going to have to part with some of their high end prospects to make a deal like this happen. Or they should move on and start shopping for a cheaper alternative while Buffalo gets some time for the reality of the situation to sink in.

Oh it's definitely Edmonton, but they never had issues scoring points, it was keeping the puck out of their own net where they suffered. To further the point, they used Strome up and down the lineup with some pretty talented forwards, he couldn't make it work. It may not be an apples to apples example, but it's the only sizable sample size we have to work with. Pointing at the few games Panarin missed for personal reasons really isn't a fair measure of how good Ryan Strome is, and it most certainly doesn't do justice to him benefiting from playing with Panarin...which was my entire point.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyDanz</b></div><div>The key phrase in your reply..poor man's legit 1c..answers your own point. Since Hertl would actually be a 2c on NYR, your point is moot.
Answering a second reply here, the lines would slot as follows:
LaFreniere-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Hertl-Kravtsov
Kreider-Chytil-Gauthier
Blais-Goodrow-Reaves
(Rooney as 13th forward)
This stacks up with loads of skill, scoring and can be the hard-skating system that Gallant runs.
Adding Strome to San Jose:
(in case of Kane not being dismissed)
Kane-Couture-LaBanc
Sorenson-Strome-Meier
Not a terrible top six. Couture and Strome are adept passers, who could rack up assists with those wings. And in a potential 'dog' of a season, having another player who has been through a rebuild and is a good leader is never a bad thing.</div></div>
How does that make my point moot? That is such an off the cuff, cop-out comment! :tearsofjoy: Do you know what the definition of moot is? LOL
Your point was that a one for one straight up for Strome is fair...my point was that it wasn't, and I cited Hertl being a second tier 1C as the reason for that not being a fair deal. Are you trying to say Strome is even in the conversation for being a 1C? I am sure your answer is no, since your trade means you aren't even willing to keep him around as a 2C,...which makes my point...um...not moot. lol
There is a fair argument to be made that Mika Zibanijad isn't a legit top 1C either. His strength would be his offense, obviously...with the remainder of his game keeping him out of the conversation for top 1C.
I am going to concede that Hertl isn't as gifted offensively (which isn't a given), and he still finished with 6 less points than Mika..in 6 less games. In all other areas of the game, he is better than Mika.
That is not to say Mika is a bad player, far from it! It's to point out that Strome...straight up, for a player of Hertl's ability..is a silly offer. Again, San Jose can do better all over the league.
Please explain how that is a 'moot' point? I'll wait...

Buffalo
This is Eichel's value...<strong>IF he weren't injured and wanting off the ship</strong>. Rangers have no reason to take on all that risk and send this type of package over to Buffalo when they are in an untenable situation.
Can we honestly say Eichel is going to play for Buffalo next season? I can't see it at this point...it would be a giant $H!T show!
If they are insistent on not moving him for less, then he's going to sit out. What's that going to do for his trade value?
Why would the Rangers, or any team, give up this kind of haul for an injured player with a lot of risk who is likely to sit out until he is moved?
Remove Kravtsov, Remove Schneider, install Zach Jones, include 2022 2nd (Rangers have 2, take your pick), include Strome to balance money at least for a season..that's about it.
And then the Rangers get to enjoy some cap headaches moving forward.
If the Rangers were interested in offering more, the deal would have been done already.

Hertl
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyDanz</b></div><div>As usual, reckless banter attempts to override what IS a sound proposal.
A one-for-one Strome/Hertl deal honestly works. The need for a playmaking center with leadership skills is the Sharks, while a big shooting power forward is the need of the Rangers.
Each player satisfies the other team's need, without destroying the total roster makeup. The Rangers might be inclined to move Zach Jones in this deal to offer him a long-term NHL opportunity, rather than bury him for years (potentially) in Hartford of the AHL.
That said, including Julian Gauthier isn't necessary; utilizing him in the Ranger roster brings a balance to it.</div></div>
Not at all, this isn't enough for Hertl, San Jose could beat this offer across the league.
Hertl is a legit poor man's 1C, and while he isn't as good as Mika on offense, he is a better all around center. He's great on draws, plays a strong defensive game and is much more physical than any of the Rangers centers.
He did have a bad knee injury a season ago, but if he's fine, the Rangers should certainly be interested if he's being shopped.
What need would San Jose have for Strome? He's a downgrade in every area..he is not a direct replacement. For this, they'd be wiser to hold onto Hertl and move him at the deadline for a bigger haul.
If Strome is going in order to make the money work, makes more sense. Gauthier to be fair hasn't been given a lot of chances with Carolina or the Rangers, he has tools and it would be interesting to see how he did with playing time. Zach Jones is an interesting prospect...but it would take more.

Tomas Hertl is one of the better players in the NHL that the average fan hasn't heard of. There is a question of health but if he has a clean bill, he's a significant upgrade of Strome. He is a much better two way center.. more size, better high end skills, MUCH better on draws..on and on, he is simply superior to Strome in every way.
The Rangers would do this deal in a blink, but I doubt San Jose would. Zach Jones is the only thing that would be of any interest to them.
If you're thinking they can flip Strome, then it would be wiser for the Rangers to trade Strome for blue chips to include in the deal to San Jose.
For a tiny bit of perspective..
Hertl .63 PPG
Strome .55 PPG
I think we would all agree that Strome has been on an uptick over the last three seasons...but..
Hertl .87 PPG over the last three seasons
Strome .74 PPG over the last three seasons
Yes, PPG is a very basic stat that lacks a ton of context, but when you start to dig into the underlying numbers...this is when Hertl really starts to blow Strome away. Yes, Hertle has been San Jose's top center, however they don't have Artemi Panarin...and I don't think you can have this discussion fairly while leaving out the "Panarin effect".
He is a marked improvement over Strome, and while both players will be due a raise soon...neither will be approaching Eichel's price tag. If the Rangers can swing a deal for him that doesn't further subtract from their projected lineup this season, they should get it done!

3 team trade NYR VGK BUF
Interesting and creative, kudos!
Can't speak for Buffalo fans, but the team gets pretty close to their "4 1sts" asking price..
Can't speak for Vegas fans, but turning Karlsson into 2 1sts to get the deal done is a creative approach.
Rangers don't get Eichel, but they also don't pay Eichel price and they still get a center who would be an upgrade over Strome. He's also signed for a reasonable 5.9 for years to come, which is NOT the 10m you'd be paying Eichel. They don't blow the team up now in trade pieces, and they don't blow the team up later for cap reasons.
This is not a bad idea at all.

HAHA, Domi and ADA fighting first day of training camp!
If the Sharks were wise, they'd learn from the Rangers example...holding on for the sake of suffering painful loses in the playoffs...just cut the cord. Those years where we were trading away assets for Staal and praying Hank would steal series as usual...was just wheel spinning for no reason. I much prefer the rebuild phase we've gone through than what was happening before that. Easier to watch kids lose and learn than to watch Tampa's midgets run circles around our garbage defense!
Montreal is another team on that bubble...I'd even say the Flyers are. What good does finishing in the middle do? Besides allow you to watch all the talent go to other teams year after year in the draft?
Been there...done that. In the immortal words of Ricky Bobby..."if you ain't first, you're last!"
