<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>Because I seriously doubt next year's pick from MTL would be top 10 with Zegras on the roster, and if this year's draft is worse than next, why are you claiming you would only do it if it's 8th or later this year, but would give up next year's top 10 plus another first?
Because you're gambling that next year's pick is in the mid teens with Zegras on the roster, so the acquisition cost will hurt less.</div></div>
I genuinely think that CGY's first will be very low next year. They will have a rookie as their starter and will most likely continue to debuild their lineup.
I am not gambling. You will get the best of the two picks. If you prefer the 8th ish pick, take it. I'll gladly draft high next year, I only did this because we try to compete sooner than you. A high pick this year, even if slightly worst than the player we would select next year, is worth more to us because he should make the team faster. That's how I see it.

Why not? If we trade you our pick this year, it is because it will be 8th ish. Next year's draft is better, the pick will also be top10 and you get another 1st.

You're probably right, I just think this is a better offer and allows us to get a player that will help us sooner.

That's exactly what happened with Sam Girard a few years back. They are at the same stage physically.
Anyway, these pairings are not the point of the AGM. St-Louis knows better than I do.

Bruins' second will basically be a third, but I think Harris will be used as a sweetener rather than as a central trade piece anyway.

I get your point.
It's only 2 years, and we don't really need that money. I feel like it would really help our young guys and make us a playoff contender.

Ducks fans will want our own 1st. If we do that, there is no way this trade happens before we are on the clock, unless we end up drafting like 10th.

That would be amazing. He would add great leadership to our very young group, especially if we trade Savard.
If he is ready to sign, I would be willing to give him like 10x2. We don't need that money short term

I don't think we can afford to be a bottom5 team next year.
Draft Macklin, reunite him with Hutson on the PP and sign/trade for one last top6 forward. Then, we are pretty much settled as long as everyone develops.

On paper, this team is really bad.
Newhook should be back in 2-4 weeks. Gallagher will miss the next couple of games.
I believe Minny and Ottawa will end the season above us. We should be 5 to last and be able to draft a high-end forward :rockon

Maybe. He may get to 30pts while averaging almost 15min per game.
IMO, he's closer to a deception than to a surprise.

He's been great this year. We'll see, but for now I don't consider him as untouchable. We need size in the top6 too.
Edit: If we draft Lindstrom, I could live with Caufield and Mesar both in the top6.

Josh Roy deserves a spot in the NHL. He won't get one this year, but he deserves it.

Many centers are right-handed. Caufield is too. PLD could also play on right wing. I think with the 5th ovr, offense is pretty much set.
Augustine, Bjarnasson or Hrabal is a must in my opinion. We could pick two of them actually.

We have 11 picks in the first 4 rounds in 2023 and 2024. We cannot give 11 contracts to these players, even in 2-4 years. We would be better off packaging them for another Dach-ish player who can help us now.

I just don't see the point in drafting players we won't even be able to sign (50 max.). Wouldn't these picks would be better spent on players that can actually help us?
