Getting in Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrianCampbell</b></div><div>Laine isnt worth a late round first, especially not from the Hawks at this point in the rebuild. He is averaging 35 points a year, has taken time off, been injured, and hasnt driven a line since he was in Winnipeg.</div></div>
He's scored at a .8 PPG clip on a **** CBJ team with no C, and has lost time largely due to fluke injuries and a PAP stay (if that's what you want to call "taken time off").
He's not a play-driver, but he's still got a high-end offensive toolbox that, taking a guess here, will do very well on a top-line with Bedard. We're not talking about some B6 scrub.
He's got real value - probably more than non-CBJ posters here realize, even if its not as much as some CBJ posters think.

McGroarty is as untouchable as it gets in WPG...but purely value-wise, that trade is quite far off. McGroarty > Matheson AND WPG is adding a high 2nd round pick on top of that?

Depends on how you value your prospects. Mcgreoty is an untouchable prospect as he is a top winger
Pionk got a few less ES points last year than Matheson who has had only one year of major points but was on the ice for a lot of goals against. Pionk played against top lines as well and was a +9, Matheson was a -24 or something so i dunno...I would think they are about the same other than Pionk shoots right which is more valuable
late 1st vs early 2nd in this draft isnt much of a difference.
If Matheson is this amazing then why is MTL fans trying to trade him? (Psst...Its because he isnt that amazing)

He spends most of his 5v5 time on a line with Stamkos and amounts to 40pts a season. Great defensively but for 6m? He's not a legit 2C

Realistic Trades - NO ONES UNTOUCHABLE
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Schuyler</b></div><div>awfully big asks for a UFA who regularly misses time and is one of the biggest playoff ghosts in the NHL</div></div>
Honestly, the ghost thing would mean nothing in the trade negotiations but his injury-prone status (although he was healthy last year) would probably limit his return to something like a 1st+3rd. That being said JimmyJets makes a good point that if this is happening in the off-season, they might as well ask more for him than they can get at the TDL, especially since they aren't expecting themselves to be sellers. 10 OV would probably be the type of overpay that they would like, maybe (they get a player that will be under team control but won't help them any time soon), but don't see NJ doing that. I don't think they would even want to add to Ehlers to make it fair since that pick is probably not going to help them anytime soon. Mercer+ seems more reasonable, I don't think it would be a 1st (NJ wouldn't accept), but that would make sense for WPG to get a player that they can lock to a long-term deal. Perhaps Mercer+ two 2nds (not worth it IMO for NJ though). A the end of the day though, got to remember that Ehlers is a top 6 F on a team that's trying to win the Cup, if he's not made available by them, he's going to cost more to pry out despite his contract situation.

Jets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs_22_14_20</b></div><div>I think everyone of every fans bases agrees you are the ignorant one since you are always dead wrong. Monahan was clearly an upgrade on Perfetti & Namestnikov. WPG PP was much better after the Monahan trade.
My mock trade at the TDL was Monahan vs MTL 2024 2nd round pick that the Jets hold. So nice try.
Having a lot of LHD doesn’t mean they are good. If Dillon leaves, that leaves you with Morrissey as a true top 4 LHD. Samberg is a #5 dman, could become a top 4, we don’t know yet. Schmidt isn’t good, Samberg sucks, Heinola has a hard time to become a full time NHLer but guess what, he didn’t have to go through waivers so WPG took their time.
Matheson would automatically be your 2nd best dman
Barron played in MTL this year and because of our depth (yes we do have a lot of depth on the backend), Barron was waivers exempt so they sent him down to work on his defensive game. Anyway, you ain’t reading all that, you don’t understand a lot about asset management</div></div>
Actually I've heard that about you. You're very well known as being biased and ignorant of other teams on this site.
Having a lot of LHD means the Jets don't need more. Again showing your ignorance. Matheson is 30, has a bad contract for a 2nd pair guy, is okay offensively, but bad defensively. He might be better offensively than Samberg, but a lot worse defensively and definitely not $3.4 mil better than Samberg. Then the Jets have Heinola for 3 LHD, who had made the team out of camp last year, but got injured.
With cap hits taken into account Samberg and Heinola are a better bet than a 30YO declining defenseman. That's asset management.
Barron will require waivers at some point this season which substantially reduces his value when he would be fighting with 2 or 3 other guys for 7D. Barron is an AHL/NHL tweener at this point that all teams have 2 or 3 of.

You said you didn’t need him to play 4C, when he would clearly be your 2C
You don’t even know what your team needs …
The trade above doesn’t make sense tho, but a trade involving Matheson + Barron vs Ehlers would make more sense</div></div>
I never said Monahan for a 6th. I said Monahan wasn't worth a 1st and wasn't an improvement on anything Winnipeg had in house. Which was correct on both counts. You on the other have said Monahan would cost a 1st and top prospect.
You obviously have no idea what Winnipeg needs.
Matheson is an LHD which has no value to Winnipeg as the Jets left side is full. Barron needs waivers this year and can't crack the starting 6 consistently on a bad team with no depth. He obviously doesn't come close to the the top 6 in Winnipeg, giving him little to no value to Winnipeg.
Educate yourself on the needs on other teams before you spout off and end up looking so ignorant of other teams needs like you did here.
Just because you want to dump these players doesn't mean they have value to other teams.

First, it's a very high second. Basically a first. Second, Barron is eligible for waivers this year and couldn't consistently crack the lineup of one of the worst teams in the league. How is he going to crack the lineup of the best defensive team in the league this year?
If he was an established top 4 RHD he'd be of interest, but he's just a bottom pairing guy that isn't an improvement on anything that Winnipeg already has.
He just does nothing for Winnipeg and isn't worth an almost first round pick.

No from Winnipeg. They have no need for bottom pairing defensemen and bottom pairing guys aren't worth a pick that is almost a 1st.
