One is physical who brings grit, the other is a better all around player. Why I’m saying Evans have more value than Paquette is because Paquette will be UFA and he’s 27 yo while Evans is 24 yo, on a 2 years 750K deal and RFA at the end of is contract.</div></div>
Grew up in Ottawa and did all my schooling in French, so... Je suis parfaitement bilingue. And I never said Evans was a useless player, I just don't believe he's part of MTL's future. You have better guys coming soon while makes Evans a guy you can part with. Either way - agree to disagree.

I don't believe he's nearly as valuable as Paquette come playoff time, but you're absolutely entitled your opinion. Now, if I wanted to be rude, like you were to me, I could correct your English. But I'm a classy guy.

True. I'd forgotten you guys had picked up Corey Perry.

I'm no Paquette fan, but saying Evans is the better player is a clear sign of HOMER VISION illness.
Last year Paquette was 2nd among Tampa forwards in blocked shots and lead the entire CUP WINNING team in hits. He also has 91 games of playoff experience and was 53.5% in FOW through the playoffs last year. Montreal would give up MUCH MORE than Evans to acquire him at the deadline.

At first glance this seems like a crazy take, but if you take into account that Dubois would NOT want to sign a long term deal with Ottawa, and Norris WILL, it's actually quite reasonable.

Dubois trade I WOULD make
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cbjthrowaway</b></div><div>On the contrary -- if it drags out to the draft, PLD will be eligible to sign an extension but won't be prone to an offer sheet, so they could move him with an extension in place and drive up his value even more, plus Canadian teams would be more willing to jump in because they wouldn't have to worry about a 14-day quarantine.
I disagree, but hopefully we won't need to wait too long to find out.</div></div>

Dubois trade I WOULD make
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cbjthrowaway</b></div><div>In PLD's case though, that doesn't drive his price down. The Jackets have gotten calls from 20+ teams already. The only markets that would be considered 'smaller stages' than Columbus would be like Arizona, Florida and maybe Carolina, right? And "smaller" might not even be the right word. What he wants is a market that will treat him like a rock star.
Artemi Panarin's trade value went way down when he was about to leave Columbus because he was about to hit free agency and wouldn't sign an extension anywhere. Dubois has two years left on his current contract (under market value, too) and then two RFA years on top of that. Montreal can try to lowball based on being his apparent preferred destination, but Jarmo is in no rush to move him there for pennies on the dollar. There will be a bidding war, and I think the team that wins will be someone like LA or NYR.</div></div>
It's going to be interesting to watch, but I still believe the longer it drags out the less likely CBJ fans are happy with the outcome. Especially if the loses start piling up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Edmund0</b></div><div>Dude don’t want to come off as rude but honestly, let me put it this way. If your trading tkachuk, would you be happy with Atkinson, Riley Nash and 2 seconds. ?</div></div>
That's not rude, it's a fair statement. And you're right, only a crazy homer would suggest it was too much; I should've made that clearer. But, as an Ottawa fan, I'm well aware when a player demands to be traded, and makes it clear they want to end up in a bigger market, you lose a lot of your power in negotiating. The longer you wait for the perfect deal, the worse things get in the room. If CBJ come out of the back-to-backs with Tampa and Floria 0-4... they'll need to rethink the asking price or sacrifice the season. Also, I made it clear why OTTAWA shouldn't pay more. If I were the Rangers or Montreal or LA, a market Dubois would consider signing long term in, different story.

German Connection
Yeah, whenever you try to trade for one of another teams top 2 players these are the replies you'll get. I firmly believe OTT is hoping that Sanderson proves to be good enough (in 3 to 4 years) that Chabot becomes expendable - then you can realistically look at acquiring that KEY piece you're missing - be it pivot or goalie or RHD...
For now, even if it could be done, it would cost so much it would destroy Ottawa's rebuild.

Prospects in place plus some additions
OTT declines. Based on organizational needs alone I wouldn't trade Connor Brown for Nurse, 1 for 1, let alone add an early 2nd. NO WAY. We've already got Chabot and Wolanin for our top 4, and Sanderson and Kleven coming soon. Pretty well stocked for LHD thanks.

Taxi squad is a trap
There's not a team in the league that would take James Neal off waivers. To get rid of him would cost you more than it's worth. Maaaaybe Seattle would take him in the expansion draft IF you toss in a high end prospect or 1st rd pick.

Vancouver trade at deadline
Ottawa would let McKegg clear waivers and they have no real need for a 30 y/o LHD with that kind of term remaining. They currently have Chabot, Wolanin, Reilly, Coburn, and Lajoie; that's not even counting Brannstrom if OTT prefers he play the left side. And Sanderson and Kleven will be knocking at the door soon too. So either they'd pass on Moore, or Boston would have to sweeten that deal.

Cupp thoughts
Toffoli is a solid 2nd line RW, but he's 28, not old of course, but much older than Ottawa's future core, and two years older than their placeholders, Chris Tierney & Connor Brown. Yes he's younger than Dadonov and Stepan, but they are temporary core pieces. Toffoli is inconsistent, but a lot of scorers are, he's just really hot and cold.
Harris looks like a nice find for Montreal, but would never be more than a 3rd pairing in Ottawa as long as Chabot and Sanderson are there.
Pinto is probably going to be a 3rd line centre, but that 1st round pick is going to be the best player in this deal.
1st > Toffoli
Pinto > Harris
Ottawa would decline this offer.[/quote]
THIS is worded far too nicely. It's a brutal offer for Ottawa. To add to ALL THE REASONS above, Toffoli would be 30 at the time of the trade and just two seasons from being UFA, which means OTT would likely only have him for one full season and need to move him at the deadline of his second season or get nothing in return. This is a very, very easy NO.

Playoffs here we come
They need to try Logan Brown with decent line mates, having him on that 4th line with Anisimov will just crush his mojo AND his trade value (if that's the route we end up taking with him). I don't even care if it means moving White to wing. Logan Brown has to be given the chance to succeed this season regardless of what OTT is planning to do with him.

Building around the defense
His "indefinite" LTIR is NOT something Ottawa is going to trade Tierney and Brannstrom for. If he were healthy or scheduled to be back 10 to 15 games into the season, ABSOLUTELY I would make that trade. The kids will learn more from Tienery than they will from a Toews that isn't there.

Even if he would waive, which he wouldn't, it would cost Ottawa more and end up being a bad move for BOTH franchises.
