chicago is very well in a position to dictate terms. If teams want one of the best wingers in the league at 5m for a playoff run they will most definitely need to pay top dollar to get him. If the trade was this easy, they would have done it already.
Plus, they don't HAVE to trade Kane. It's not like he wants to leave Chicago either + they'll be a lottery team either way. The list of teams is limited, yes, but it will be a contender regardless. Even then, what makes you think he waives and willingly goes to Edmonton of all places? Even with Mcdavid, I don't think he'd want to go to canada.
It will very much take broberg or holloway to get this trade done (if it happens). if EDM is uninterested in moving these assets, they will not get kane. your C-B tier prospects are not going to cut it.

You expect the Hawks to trade one of the best wingers in the league at 50% retained for a middle six winger, a mid prospect, and late first and second round pick?

Future after some trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>"what we want" vs "what we need"
Our offense is developing well.
Getting to next level won't come with the addition of a goal-scorer.
Our offense will take the next step when we get better play in front of net and in corners.
We have plenty of skill on perimeter. We don't waste possessions there.
We waste them in front of the net without screens, tips, deflections, someone pouncing on rebounds. (This is our #1 need by far)
And we waste them when we cannot sustain pressure by losing puck in corners (we are fine in neutral zone, o-zone entries)
Defensively, we need more shot-blocking from wings (we allowed more shots from point to hit net than anyone).
DeBrincat would be nice, (especially for the power play).
But he is not likely to lead to many more wins as the price would suggest.
If we spending big this off-season, it should be on (1) goalie, (2) heavy skill forward.</div></div>
You remind me so much of myself last summer before the hawks aquired seth jones

DeBrincat for Holtz and 2nd overall is just fine. No reason to get rid of Lafferty after just re-signing him and he is worth more than that, especially after this past season.

Bowman screwed up by forcing him into the lineup too early. Should have went back to juniors or to Rockford to develop. The trade offer isn't awful, just think the Hawks will sign him to maybe a two-year deal and hope he develops. They don't have to get rid of Dach. Also, per the original discussions, the list of untouchable Hawks is blank.

Not sure the Rangers would consider moving Chytil but the pure value there is in their favor. Carolina would be getting an absolute steal, that would be one of the most lopsided trades in hockey history

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jjkhairaELTE99</b></div><div>bourgeault is an A grade prospect, you must not pay attention to the league-wide prospect pool if you think he is mid. who's stock is rising the more he plays. As for the RFA argument. it'd normally be valid but, he has arb rights which after the season he has posted, it will cost heaven and earth to sign him and if the team that aquires him is looking for a QO, that'd be 9.5mil. The only benefit would be the fact you'd have his rights for 1 yr...
given Chicago's and league's love of overvaluing OFD that are RHD that can QB a PP and transition the puck barrie will command value. Bourgeault is an A prospect and then you get a 1st rounder AND a roster players to slot in the 3rd line. IF he was with any kind of term then you have a case but given his specific RFA situation, he isn't going to get you the world because teams cant guarantee they will be able to even sign his QO.</div></div>
Bourgault scored 75 points in the Q, which is typically the easiest junior league to score in. He is not a elite level prospect, he does not have elite level potential. He's a very good prospect, and projected as a top 6 player but he's not projected to be a elite franchise level player...you're smoking something if you believe that. Craig Button's rankings, largely respected in hockey circles, doesn't even rank him in the top 50 which came out late April. He's a good prospect but he can't be the centerpiece here. Holloway would be a better chance but not even sure he's enough as the centerpiece (I'm personally not all the high on Holloway).
In regards to the QO, yes he has a $9.5M QO which as of now is dead-on on what his deal should be worth...that's a no brainer for a team to work out a long term deal with Cat given the $9.5M QO for 1 year as the baseline. If his QO was $12M then you have a point.

Bad analysis. He's an RFA, not a UFA and you 1000% attach that as part of the acquisition price. None of those prospects or the late 1st in 2023 move the needle for a 24 year old elite goal scorer. You have to give up a potential elite prospect as part of the package and there isn't a elite level prospect here.

Oh but it does, otherwise take a hike. You don't get an elite 24 year old NHL scorer on a current team friendly deal then a RFA after that without trading a prospect that has a strong chance of being an elite player in the league; just not realistic. You have to give to get, and bird in the hand (proven elite player) is always worth more at a young age then a potential elite player.

Don’t know why you would consider McCabe a cap dump. Tyler Johnson at 2.5 is what I would call a fair value. In any case it would address your need for a LD, and Johnson can be a good bottom 6 player.
