This Team Would Be Decent IMO
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Still missing super star + star talent on forward. I suspect they still miss the playoffs. D Group looks nice though.</div></div>
Could acquire that along the way, but Kadri, Huberdeau & Kuzmenko have proven they can be 0.80-1.00PPG Players in CGY, they just need to do so consistently
Zary’s up & coming and Sharangovich started slow, yet turned it on, but yeah, Mang, Backlund & Coleman are typically 0.50-0.67PPG Players, so we definitely would need Mang to get back above that, Coleman to repeat that and then Duclair, Pelletier, Coronato or Pospisil to break out as Flames Players to consider this Team a “Contender”
If we don’t have a “SuperStar”, all I can go with is Good Defence, Hope for the above to happen and Pray for Hot Goaltending
Duclair’s a gamble, but his Speed, Grit & Tenacity still intrigue me. He broke out in Tampa Bay, so he’s still got his offensive instincts & skill intact

I think the Caps would definitely have interest! but if we're trading away good assets like that, I'd personally rather try to use them to get a forward scoring threat. This team is dying in the offensive zone, and a top 6 shooter would be huge

ReVamp for Next Year
From the Caps side, earlier in the year I probably would have said yes, but I like what I've seen from Alexeyev in the last half of the season. Makes me less bullish on going out and getting another LHD this offseason, especially if we have to give up that much.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Pitsburgh needs to get younger, I don't see this trade making sense for them. They do need a defensive minded RD though, so in that regard it works, but trading picks and prospects for an aging guy doesn't.
They may be interested in a guy like Barron though.</div></div>
Yeah I considered this as well. I just figured the same they need a defensive dman. Barron is interesting one who may struggle to find a fit in that MTL core so you could be right there, definitely less defensive though.

Good question, no easy answer, I hope I’m wrong but I’ve sort of resigned myself to us bringing back only one of Domi or Bert. Just don’t see how we fit both unless we sacrifice too much somewhere else. Don’t have the answer so maybe your idea of moving Kampf (or Jarnkrok) is the better solution 🤷🏻

Getting Younger
If we strikeout in free agency then Laine might be worth taking a swing at. If anyone can revive him, it’d be Sidney Crosby as his center. His short term isn’t that much of a risk either. However, PIT won’t be paying anything of value for Kotkaniemi, if anything at all.

If Laine does get traded to Pittsburgh it'll be his last shot. If he can't get it together with Crosby no one can help him

KK and Zegras
It's a bad deal for Montreal obviously, but if Carolina moves Kotkaniemi it will be for cap relief, so taking back a contract that is more expensive - even for the better player - doesn't make sense. This is especially true for a LHD - Matheson would be 3rd on the depth chart behind Slavin and Orlov.

PLAYOFF LINES
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Leafs were at their best with:
Rielly-Bush

Brodie-Lily
I know Edmondson is huge and would look good beside Lily. But Brodie is playing well again and Keefe loves Brodie. I think they go with that 6 to start. Edmondson gets in if we have a few bad games though.</div></div>
Nah Brodie again has started to become an issue defensively he's starting to miss assignments or not be where he's supposed to. Hes creating plays here and there but in the Dzone has been caught chasing or not been where needed to often in last 5 games.
Leafs best games actually came with
Rielly-Bush
Benoit-McCabe
Edmundson-Lily
Edmundson's has to be in game 1. His net front clearing presence and ability to play playoff hockey and annoy other teams stars is what we need
We saw it in the EDM game he made McDavid and Draisaitl miserable
Rielly-Bush
Benoit-McCabe
Edmundson-Lily
That should be game 1

PLAYOFF LINES
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Rielly + Lily has not worked yet to this point in time. Jarnkrok hasn't really played C for the Leafs.
I doubt these are the lines.
I assume the D will be:
Rielly-Bush
Brodie-Lily
Benoit-McCabe
with Edmundson on standby.
Forwards are harder to predict but maybe:
Bert-Matthews-Marner (I think they go back together)
McMann-Taveres-Nylander
Knies-Domi-Jarnkrok
Dewar-Kampf-Reaves
Holmberg and Robertson on Standby.</div></div>
Why split up the new Matthews line that has been shredding opponents
Not a wise move
TOR has finally divided up the scoring threat to 3 lines. No need to move anyone around
Once Jarnkrok comes back Reaves comes out
Holmberg stays at 3c and Robertson is on standby
Bertuzzi — Matthews — Domi
Knies — Tavares — Marner
McMann— Holmberg — Nylander
Dewar — Kampf — Jarnkrok

Unlike our d group. I am sure Steeves still has NHL potential but I am sure he is itching for a proper chance at this point. So we will see if he even signs with the Leafs.</div></div>
Guessing when a player is 23 or 24 career AHLer, his changes of becoming an NHLer are getting pretty slim. Yeah are forwards have been healthy, and then the added bonus of Holmberg, McCann and Robertson have shown they are NHLers. Kinda of my thinking that's why Bertuzzi isn't a Leaf next season for cap reason, and Leafs use that cap for needed RHDs.

Yep, there are always 900.000 wingers available. I'm kinda surprised that Steeves wasn't a Leaf this season. Guessing he has peaked.
Important years for Minten, Cowan, Niemela, Hildeby, Quillen. Leafs are really hoping they are NHL capable in 25/26. Sure would help with the cap and nice to young NHLers with potential instead of constant signing of fading 30 year old NHLer.

My dream short term retool DONT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Why is trading Brady part of your dream scenario?</div></div>
Because I dont see the Sens being good enough in the next 2-3 years and he only has 4 years left on his deal. Might as well push the contention window another 2-3 years and look to build a team that can be a longterm success with a good prospect pool
The other scenario is going on a 3 year window run right now but burning up all the future assets and that’s horrible longterm
