Clearing cap and buying
It's definitely tough to make this team better in any meaningful way via the trade market but these deals make the pens worse in both the short and long term.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Highly doubt Arizona moves Guenther.</div></div>
This is fair, where zona is in the process makes no sense to trade high value prospects.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LastDaze_</b></div><div>Gunetzel’s not worth that much and Zona would do smaller trades this year and spend on bigger players in FA I would think.</div></div>
This is insane, Jake as rental is worth a 1st/Blue chip prospect + additional players/picks all day. If he were to agree to a sign and trade that goes way up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SGB88</b></div><div>That's a big no. The only way the Canucks would even consider moving Willander is for a top RD Weegar, Andersson with term or who is young with lots of RFA ahead etc.
Canucks don't need or want Guetzal. That doesn't mean he doesn't have value, but why are you trying to trade him to the Canucks. Target teams that need scoring wingers. Seattle etc.</div></div>
Canucks need depth scoring, they have started the year out hot but it's likely not sustainable when you look at the team shooting and xgoals for vs actuals. Group will come back down to earth. Also, getting Connor Garland off the books is a huge part of this trade. With extensions needed for Hronek and Petterson this upcoming off season, that contract will have to move and this is a way to take a real shot this year and fix a long term issue.

If Pens cant get it together
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>It doesn't matter.
A) Barring Jake coming out right now and saying he won't stay here, the Pens aren't moving Guentzel
B) The chances of moving Carter are very slim and he won't waive to VAN.</div></div>
A) the only reason Jake isn't signed right now is because Dubas knows the second he extends him he is a worthless asset. If the Pens in this version can't make the playoffs extending Jake makes no sense as a larger overhaul is clearly needed and you can't do that after a Jake extension. I also do not think they want to move him right now, but if the Pens can't make the playoffs (read description) then moving Jake is a must.
B) If the Pens clearly aren't making the playoffs come March, I think you are way underestimating Carter's standards to move. This is probably his last season and regardless of how good the destination is I doubt he would rather spend his last couple of months playing nothing hockey vs making any sort of run in the playoffs.

Petry is a 15 team list, not full no trade. Winnipeg has no leverage with PLDs trade request and salary demands. Wouldn’t be shocked if he goes for less.

You can’t do this here but the idea is this would be a sign and trade for Jarry. 4x$5.5 is what I had in mind.
Could easily be Sam Poulin and Jarry on that deal.

Definitely creative but overall feels like what your giving up here doesn’t move the needle much.
Arvidsson is risky player to target and that’s a lot to give up.
Would love the Pens to get Roy but don’t think Legare is even close to enough.
Could build a similar team through FA while keeping much more of your long term assets.

Dubas Gameplan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MacPatty</b></div><div>The way I see it, the only Henrique caliber player in FA is O'Reilly and he is going to command a big, long contract. The big key for me was getting Granlund out and getting someone who could fill either a 200 foot playing 3C or 2LW role.
I'll disagree on Granlunds buyout being cheap. $833k this year plus 3 years at $1.833M is fairly significant. Caveat there being if there is a significant cap increase next year.</div></div>
Jason Zucker was more productive, is younger and we could sign him tomorrow so giving draft capital for a 33 year old Henrique on is Hextall type move. Agreed that they need to get rid of Granlund, but the way I would look at this is what is more valuable: 1) FA signing, 1st rd, Smith/Rutta, and $833k cap hit 2) Henrique, $800k cap hit (unless Anaheim retained as this is the difference in Granlund Henrque deals). Henrique is a fine player but he is not anywhere worth all of that.
The $1.8M buyout hit after year one is the only reason for pause but that is also balanced out by the fact that Henrique is effectively a rental with 1 year on the deal. Overall, I wouldn't be against the package for Henrique you offered initially but the pens would need to aim higher, not saying that they could get a better deal but if they can't get a better deal another path is best bet.

My counter would be Rico 50% retained for the 1st and Rutta. You can keep Smith and Granlund.</div></div>
Absolutely absurd counter lmfao Pens end negotiating on spot

Dubas Gameplan
A Henrique caliber player will be available via FA and the Granlund buyout is too affordable for this package to make sense for Pitt. If the Pens did use this sort of package, player would need to be at the very least in the 25-27 range and have some possible upside, where as Henrique is another 30+ where best case scenario you get what you expect and worse case he falls off a cliff.

Rutta is still a solid player, would be an upgrade to Anaheim's current group that lacks size and experience. But like I mentioned in the description, there are several teams where he could fit into short term role for teams are going from ending rebuild to being competitive and want a veteran presence without having to sign an FA to term.

I don't see the pens giving up that much in assets or wanting to spend that type of salary on a 3C slot. Thats why they let Bonino walk and why Rutherford isn't looking into free agency for a replacement.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snobalt</b></div><div>How did they get him for such little term?</div></div>
Shattenkirk is from the New york area, most of his family still lives there and he was really trying to land with either the devils or the Rangers so he was willing to be much more amenable to them. Must be a case where higher salary now helps the rangers more than a longer term hit at less cost.

How does that make any sense? Pasta was top 10 in goals and top 20 in points....Spooner is barley top 200 in points. On top of that Spooner was benched by the team in the playoffs in favor of a rookie who spent most of the season in the AHL.</div></div>
Bridge contract vs Contract looking to keep a player around for a few more years. If Kucherov didn't get 5M, I don't see Pastrnak getting it. Especially since Boston is slightly hindered for cap. He's not getting a 6M-7M deal.</div></div>
Kucherov is playing for a stanely cup contender with huge cap issues, Pasta represents the the Bruins future and locking him in at a reasonable price for long term is much more important. Also why would an already aging, fringe playoff team bring in an aging old star at that price? None of this makes much sense to me, the team doesn't really improve at all and just adds more questions to come along with a decent group of you FA's for next year.

Exactly I think blowing up their D like that and still loosing a pick is worse than how I have it, and only getting one 1st rounder next year doesnt feel like enough with all of McPhee's options</div></div>
there also the fact that there's 4D to protect is anaheim going to expose cogliano, silvferberg</div></div>
Which is the point of the deal, really the only question is what are the terms, I think it is the draft picks and I think then McPhee takes a young, fast and cheap option in Logan Shaw although it also could be Kerdiles

Yeah, that's where you are wrong. The Ducks made a deal with Vegas before the freeze so that at least Manson an possibly also Vatanen would be protected. The Ducks didn't have to pay as much because ANA would have told VGK that they would trade Vatanen and buyout Bieksa. So instead Vegas accepted a deal for Picks that they would otherwise not get had they not made a deal with the Ducks. Since the deal was made there is no point in buying out Bieksa.</div></div>
Anaheim would still be in trouble</div></div>

ducks dont really have a choice both are worth much more than a late first round</div></div>
I see it as one of the couple instances where McPhee can squeeze all he can out of a team, as I have it in this but ya never know
