Too Early 2425 Opening Night Roster Projection
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Even if he is ready for 2025, will he be a top 4 option then? They likely make him take the same route at Edvinsson. Maybe he comes to play in Grand Rapids next season, then maybe gets some time with injuries.
Could look at shorter term options like Tanev or Carrier. There are options this off season and we should make a move I think.</div></div>
The RD would have to be short term and under 5mil to be a fit. Even then Yzerman would have to buy out Holl which I'm sure he isn't psyched to do. I haven't watched enough of the free agent class to see how much better those guys would be in the 2 pair then Chiarot but it'd have to be a very significant improvement to make these changes make sense.
I'm personally in the camp of being patient with signings, playing kids, and using our metric **** tonnes of cap space and assets next season to land a star and actually be a contender.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>I do agree Ed over Ghost should be an improvement and help for the future.
I feel Walman should be healthy for next season, don't see why not.
I don't see us moving Chiarot, he's played decent this year. Petry can't be moved and a buyout isn't really worth it. I wouldn't hate if he was a third pairing guy. I would hope we could get slight value for Maatta, might not be so with Fabbri but he almost got 20 this year. Just be really nice to add a top 4 RHD this season. Montour, Pesce, Roy or Carrier to name a few. Even if it meant paying a depth pick to move a contract or two, probably worth it. Holl can be bought out.
I wouldn't hate if we regressed a bit if it meant getting youth in the line up. I want to see what Danielson can do and Kasper as well. Danielson I believe is eligible for AHL so he likely end up there. I don't think Soderblom has done enough to warrant a spot.</div></div>
I agree, a Maatta trade, and/or Holl cap dump/buyout seem like the most likely off-season moves to clear space. I was thinking Fabbri could be moved at TDL if Kasper, Mazur, Hanas, or Danielson are banging on the door.
Soderblom had a strong end to the season in GR, hopefully he has a big playoff run here. I mostly included him in this lineup because he is cost effective. He needs to bring energy consistently to be useful at the bottom of the lineup.
Honestly I am worried about signing a RHD as I think ASP will be ready as soon as 2025

Subbing out Ghost for Ed and cycling between Maatta and AJo. A full season of Ed after a healthy off season and continued development will be a huge add. Hopefully Walman is 100% ready to go by training camp as well.
I don't think anything else is possible without giving up assets to move Maatta, holl, chiarot, or Petry.
I won't be surprised if they regress a bit in the standings next year as the youth trickle in and the temporary cap crunch hits, but also won't be surprised if they "over perform" again.

Detroit Red Wings signed Filip Zadina (3 Years / $1,825,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nathaniel</b></div><div>If Im remembering it correctly, Hughes was Detroits guy potentially to the extent that they told him they would pick him if he was available at 6. Zadina was not expected to be available at 6, and his drop from the top 5 made DET reconsider. I can see why they chose him, but time has not been kind to that decision.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>That makes sense and matches my memory too! Lol</div></div>
so much revisionist history going on in this thread... a lot of fans wanted Quinn, but Holland and Co. were known to be targeting Evan Bouchard at 6. Zadina was consistently ranked top 4 in the class, so when ARI and MTL chose to address positional needs (centres Hayton and Kotkaniemi respectively) over consensus best player available, Zadina fell into Hollands lap and was considered a steal.
Hindsight is always 2020 when drafting 18 year old prospects, right now Zadina is not the 6th best player to come out of the 2018 draft, but he's still young and has shown us glimpses of what his ceiling is. I'm giving him 2 years under Lalonde's system to figure out his game before I make any final judgement on what he'll be as a player.

Pens Move Letang - No Alex L - Wild fans do you like trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Seider53</b></div><div>This is super important. The most important thing Yzerman can do this summer is get our re-signing done early. Establish how much cap space we have, and start the bidding war.
None of the teams taking on cap dumps are charities, they will eek out every little extra pick, prospect, roster player they can get. Ex. if this is the best offer Yzerman gets, he would be silly not to try and wedge a 5th or 6th in there. Sure the 5th rounder probably isnt going to be a player, but it can be used to move up.</div></div>
Exactly, a move like this prevents us from making other more appealing moves. It's not bad at face value, but just not worth it in the grand scheme of things

I disagree, Detroit accepts as long as the 2021 pick is lottery protected. He's 23 and fits the rebuild timeline perfectly

What about Steen, Allen and the 1st for Bernier @50%. That gives St. Louis a solid goaltending tandem, money to sign Pietrangelo and possibly another piece if they feel like they can make another deep run.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Seider53</b></div><div>Moves look like a good foundation, Bertuzzi extension maybe looks a little high. I'd prefer a 3.5x3. He's great on the MLB line, but Zadina, and future draft picks will probably take his spot on the top line. I could see him dropping to the 3rd line.
I can't see Eriksson waiving without an NHL roster spot, but if Ras and Smith stay in the AHL until the deadline, and Hirose, Timashov etc rotate as scratches while Eriksson plays on the 3rd line that would work.
If we put Zetterberg on LTIR we still have over 10mil of cap for another deal or two. I would love another 1st in 2020.</div></div>
In my mind it would be ideal if BLM stays productive together and Zadina establishes some chemistry with another line. I think it's best to have a top 6 where both lines are threatening.
I'd be okay with rotating guys in and out of the lineup, just want to give the young guns as much a chance as possible when they show they deserve it

Replace Bowey with Hronek and Jeff Carter with Mantha to restore the Bertuzzi, Larkin, Mantha chemistry
Ninja edit 1: nvm just noticed the ELC rule... maybe I'd ditch jack Hughes if I was trying to win this year and replace him with a cheap defensive 4C
Nina edit 2: realized its 3 players max from each team. In which case I'd say swap out bowey for Nemeth, bump reinhart to C and swap Larkin and Mantha to stay under the cap
