Anaheim Ducks signed Alex Killorn (4 Years / $6,250,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DongLord23</b></div><div>Guy is about to be 34 and snagged a 4 year 6.25M.
Ducks better not be burning their space too quick. Still got Zegras + Terry that need extensions.</div></div>
Nah, they'll be fine.
$28,798,333 in cap space left.
Let's assume:
-$2,500,000 for Groulx and Dostal
-$8,000,000 (x8) for Zegras
-$7,000,000 for Terry
-$3,500,000 for Drysdale (bridge deal)
Leaves them with $7,798,333 in cap space. It would be a little less if Helleson, Carlsson, Zellweger (or other prospects) play in the NHL next year because their cap hits aren't included in the $28,798,333 I believe. But that doesn't change much.
There would even be enough space to give Drysdale a big contract (which I wouldn't do though as of now).
Henrique and Silfverberg contracts are up after 23/24, meaning +$11M in cap space but no major players to be re-signed next summer (as of now). The Fowler and Gudas contracts expire after 25/26 which is exactly when Mintyukov, Zellweger, Hinds and (possibly) Drysdale will get new contracts (Mintyukov's, Hinds' and Zellweger's ELCs will expire, Drysdale's bridge deal might expire that summer (if he gets a bridge deal that is)).

He has had defensive and attitude problems this year with a lot of bad penalties. I think Terry slots in around 7x7.</div></div>
While I agree with most of what you say, Zegras doesn't have an attitude problem, his attitude is fine. He has a penalty problem, yes, but that's just him being a very emotional player on the ice, attitude, to me, is more of an off ice thing, which Zegras doesn't have. There haven't been any reports of off ice issues with him and looking at his interviews and off ice videos, he's a very humble guy who just has fun on the ice which some people mistake with bad off ice attitude or arrogance (not saying you do, more so fans of other teams).

What Now?
I think a lot of people are severely overreacting when calling this TDL over for the Ducks. We don't know what's happening behind the scenes and a lot of people thought it was over last season as well when Hampus and Rakell weren't traded days before. There's still plenty of time left and I wouldn't be disappointed before the deadline's actually over.

Prospect Discussion Thread #3
Fun fact: Ducks prospects now lead 2 CHL leagues in D-man points (Luneau in the QMJHL and Mintyukov in the OHL).
The only reason a Ducks prospect doesn't lead the W too is because Zellweger went to the World Juniors but he leads the W in P/GP among D-men by a mile and is 6th overall in P/GP among all skaters. Zellweger is having another incredible season with the highest P/GP among WHL D-men (1.463) since the 1993/94 season (I believe that was Scott Niedermayer). That is slightly ahead of the 2nd best season since '94 which was 1.42 P/GP, put up by Zellweger himself last year.

Henry Thrun going to be a FA</div></div>
Sad to see him go but at least he told the Ducks management long beforehand, signs of good character. I get why he'll leave, I pretty much expected it after it was made clear that LaCombe would sign. The left side in the Ducks' prospect pool is very deep with Zellweger, Mintyukov, Hinds and LaCombe and I would have had a hard time seeing Thrun as anything more than a 3rd pairing guy, sadly. He's a great player with 4th d-man potential. Hope he finds success wherever he ends up signing.

TDL 2023
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>My main concern and objective is improving my Flames, but to answer your question, Ruzicka & Kylington are two young players who have shown flashes of brilliance and are just heading in to their primes.
Ruzicka can play any forward position, but I’d recommend he be used in the Top-9 and on the PP. He’s a Playmaker who can also Score with above average = ideal size for the NHL. He’s not very Physical and doesn’t Kill Penalties so he’s not well suited for Checking or Defensive assignments
Kylington just had a breakout season last year, proving he can be a Top-4 NHL D-Man. His Speed, Stick Checking and Puck Moving Skills are Top Notch and he likes to jump in to the play in the O-Zone so will put up 9-10+ Goals a Season. He does make some gafs still from time to time and we wish he was bigger and stronger, but overall he’s very good.
Nobody really knows for sure what the issue is or why Kylington’s out, but it’s supposedly not substance abuse or injury related. Again, he’s young and should be back next season. He would be ANA’s 1-2 D-Man, even possibly beating Fowler for the 1LD spot, otherwise 2LD for sure like he was with the Flames last season. If he returns to his former self next season, he’s the perfect candidate for a long term contract on a rebuilding team. Both guys are
Two good Draft Picks are always desires for rebuilding teams as well
Again, CGY won’t move Kylington & Ruzicka for essentially rentals. The guy and his idea/proposal to so is simply dumb.
I hope ANA gets good assets for Kulikov, but Henrique probably doesn’t get moved until the off-season or next years TDL, since he still has another year of term and a relatively expensive cap hit</div></div>
Kylington value isn't really high at this point though. And the Ducks would for sure play Fowler ahead of him, mainly for Drysdale to have a veteran D-partner. And I'd play Zellweger ahead of him too, he's NHL-ready. And depending on how Mintyukov looks in camp, he might just be too and he'd be put into the lineup ahead of Kylington too.
As I said, Ruzicka is a good young player and adding him would be a good idea imo.
The draft picks are solid pieces but they won't be very high and I'd say the 3rd is for Kulikov in this scenario.
Henrique's AAV is pretty high but the Ducks would definitely retain 50% imo, they have more than enough cap space for that.
But I agree, I don't think CGY is the best destination for Henrique.

TDL 2023
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>I don't mind Henrique and I'm happy he's playing good again, but he's not exactly the most consistent or reliable player; he hasn't completed a full season in 2018-19. Dube with his Speed and Forechecking are the better fit with Lindholm & Toffoli. Dube's on fire on this line with 5G + 5A = 10PTS in his last 10GP and 3G + 4A = 7PTS in his last 5GP and has been setting up Toffoli who has increased his Goal Scoring as a result. Ruzicka was putting up 0.80PPG when he was playing with Lindholm & Toffoli too, so to move either Dube or Ruzicka would just be plain dumb. They'll both produce more than Henrique and will continue to improve, whereas the same can't be said for Henrique who's getting up there in age
Sorry, but Kulikov is pure garbage. He's on his 6th Team and was given to ANA for free for a reason. There's better and much cheaper options out there than Kulikov. Shattenkirk I'd be interested in though</div></div>
You explained why it's presumably not a good deal for Calgary, which I get, you have more knowledge on team structure, specific players, etc. But that doesn't make this trade good for Anaheim. Kulikov isn't great but knowing NHL GMs, he'd still fetch a low 3rd. And a mid-to-low 2nd + a player that probably won't have a large impact + a good young player in Ruzicka isn't quite the value the Ducks will want for Henrique + 50% retention. It <em>should</em> start with a (low) 1st.

I get signing one of Gavrikov and Graves but I don't like both. There are 5/6 LHD like this and that's not even including Zellweger (who should be in the lineup next season) and maybe Mintyukov, who knows.
No reason to do that Lindblom trade.
Pens deal looks good.
I'd prefer 6 years on Terry, also think he gets more than that.
I doubt Drysdale gets a 1x$1.25M deal, too short and too little money.

Why would the Ducks even consider that? Voit's a great prospect but the Ducks already have what he might turn into with Terry. A 3rd and Sandin don't change, especially since the Ducks look to be more than set at LD in the future with Zellweger and Mintyukov who lead their respective CHL leagues in d-man P/GP (Mintyukov leads in total d-man points too) at just 19 y/o.

I think this might be worth a shot for the Ducks. The pick would be 51st as of now and cap space isn't an issue. Someone will have to slot in at RD next year with Klingberg and Shattenkirk likely gone and I doubt two prospects will fill in, which I think wouldn't be a good idea to begin with. But if Verbeek thinks he can get a better RD this summer that fits in better, I doubt this happens.

Don'T see Johnston > McTavish. McTavish is playing better on a worse team with worse line mates a lot of the time. He's also been better than Guenther who was on a team equally as bad and is now back in juniors. Wallstedt would rise imo, .913 SV% in the AHL at 20 years old is very good and someone like that would rise as of now.

Bjugstad: 3rd or 4th rounder

-Gotta think LA tells us to shove it with that offer. Maybe just sign someone like Holl instead? Walker would be a nice add, but LA and ANA don't typically deal with each other.
-Making a move for Weegar isn't realistic in the slightest given that he hasn't even hit year 1 of his long term extension that he signed with Calgary.
-That Zegras extension is kind of heavy...While I'd like to get him locked up for 8 years, I'd imagine that Dylan Cozens is a pretty solid comp, and he just signed for 7 x $7.1
-Absolutely love the idea of adding Pasta, but I think it's a pretty big longshot at this point.
-Fingers crossed for Bedard, but something tells me we'll inevitably pick somewhere in the 4-8 range. I'd say Michkov, Benson, Yaeger or, my personal favourite after the Bedard/Michkov/Fantilli group, Dvorsky.</div></div>
I'd prefer giving someone like Helleson a chance over signing someone like Holl tbh. I do think Zegras will get more than Cozens based off the last two seasons and him being a bigger name player at the moment. I think an 8x$8M seems realistic, especially when looking at the deal Hughes got. Yeah, I don't think Bedard comes to the Ducks either, feel like he'll be a Blackhawk.

Ducks would likely be fine when it comes to extensions this summer. Kulikov, Klingberg, Shattenkirk, Beaulieu, Megna, Stolarz, Grant and Moore are all UFAs and I expect each one to either traded or simply not extended. That would add up to $19.95M + $8,610,833 already there in this scenario (= $28,560,833). Let's assume Zegras gets $8-8.5M which seems realistic atm. Terry could get something like $7.5M. That leaves us with approximately $12.5M. The only three that I think are going to get $1M+ AAV are Drysdale, Comtois and Dostal. Doubt Drysdale gets his big pay day now considering his injury and him not having broken out like Zegras yet. Comtois won't be getting too much either and I could see Dostal getting like $1.25M. The remaining space would be enough to sign a few ELCs and minor extensions and there would likely still be some space.
