Wright ATOI: 8:29
Slafkovský ATOI: 11:52
3.5 minute difference in ATOI.
There's an argument to be made for Slaf right now but you didn't say that. You said "Slaf is the best player from the draft" not right now or anything just <strong>the</strong> best. But again, you shouldn't call anyone the best from a draft, or anything essentially, just a few months after it went down. In 4 or 5 years you can claim a certain player is the best from his draft but not now.

Dostal saves 46/49 (+ .939 s%) and is the only reason the Ducks won against the Oilers. He's proving he should be the backup next year at the very latest. Verbeek should trade Stolarz and then play Dostal as the backup imo.

So because a player gets into the league ahead of another, he's automatically better? Right... explain to me how Nico Hischier is better than Cale Makar, Jason Robertson, Elias Pettersson, Miro Heiskanen, Nick Suzuki and Jake Oettinger. Wright is getting f***ed over by the coaching staff. And claiming a player is the best from a certain draft after half a year is nonsensical and stupid. Cooley and Wright could both very well become the best players from the 2022 draft, just like anyone else, even Ivan Zhigalov (Mr. Irrelevant from the 2022 Draft). You cannot win an argument in which you call a player the definitive best from his draft just months after being drafted.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>I'm a bit hesistant to hope for a Marty St. Louis type coach...the run and gun offence is fun to watch, but it'd just be another year of Gibby getting shelled. I'm still thinking the Trotz train is probably the best option, TBH...I think he does really well creating structure, which is something this team has been desperately missing since (shoot me for saying this...) Randy Carlyle. Carlyle obviously sucked all of the offence out of the team, but at least we'd see some semblance of defence (when they were healthy...). Trotz in NY (and Washington) did the best he could with what he was given. The unfortunate bi-product in Long Island was that it absolutely sapped the offence out of Barzal, but that team, even last year, played excellent team defence, which I think it's the foundation of what this team needs to build on.</div></div>
Yeah, with St. Louis type coach I meant how he works with young players, etc., not his coaching style for the whole team. While Trotz would be great as a HC, I'm not sure he's the best fit for the Ducks. Obviously team defense would likely be great but, as you said, he could have a negative impact on the offensive development of McTavish, Zegras, etc. But I agree that this team needs defensive first and I think especially Drysdale and Zellweger (hopefully next year) could really benefit from him as a coach, also considering they're smaller than others. Another coach that could work until at least the end of the season would be Seth Appert imo. Not sure I'd want him long-term, but I think he'd work well for the now.

Dostal with his second start of the season tonight. Had 1.33 GSAx, .920 s% Looked really good, a few things in his game still to be worked on (like rebound control) but that's common for Goalies that age. Second NHL game with a s% north of .920 (his overall s% is severely pulled down by the TOR game where he had a .667 s% on 15 shots, couldn't watch the game so not 100% sure why that happened but probably just him having a bad night).

He was overhyped before the draft, it's undeniable. Just because of his Olympic and WC performances, his Liiga performance didn't back it up last year. Obviously MTL took him 1OA after all and I'm not saying it was a bad pick, just that Slafkovský, to me, never showed he's worthy of 1st overall. Both Cooley and Wright had a better case imo.

I think Šalé gets overhyped (especially by Craig Button, he has him at #4) and it also kinda reminds me of Slafkovský last year. Don't get me wrong, Šalé is a really good prospect but he's not Top 6 in a draft as loaded as this one. At least not right now, I might change my mind on that one over the course of the season.
I personally also prefer Gulyayev over Allen for the time being and I'd put him as in the top 15.
Danielson and Barlow seem a bit high to me.

Eakins usage with him isn't conducive to putting up offence unfortunately. I would hope that, with a new coach next year (!!!), and Bedard playing with McTavish (please...), that they'd add a couple of good players, and that he'd end up playing in a more offensive role on the 2nd or 3rd line (or hell, put him with Z and Terry like it should have been all along!)</div></div>
Totally agree. I do think Bedard would possibly play with Zegras on his Wing instead of McTavish, so that the Ducks have a bigger, more two-way oriented C in the Top 6. But who knows Zegras might just develop really well defensively and be just that.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>I'd just like to see an entertaining squad on the ice that can build toward something.</div></div>
Same, I'm "fine" with losing games this year but I'd like the young players to develop and play well (and be put in situations in which they can actually play really good Hockey). Ideally it's similar to St. Louis in Montreal last year as in the team still finishes last but the young players play really well because their coach trusts them and plays them properly.

I sure hope not. I think Verbeek's smarter than that and just lets the team finish the season and then does the coaching change. Not toooo horrible of a move if you ask me (as long as he hasn't lost the locker ream and team morale isn't downright atrocious) because lets be real here, what's better: Getting a Top 3 pick and at least a franchise, potentially even generational player or finishing 22nd and barely getting a Top 10 pick. Although these last few games have definitely been affecting my opinion on this. Zegras looked so upset and just really dejected after tonight, if it keeps going this way, I hope the change comes after New Years. This does remind me a lot of Yzerman's first season in Detroit lol

Would make sense at first glance, but I feel like they'd want to stay in a conference with Army and the other schools they have a connection with now, even though it doesn't make sense geographically. But tbh College sport in total doesn't make sense geographically (for example: UCLA and USC joining Big 10, Hockey East being comprised of teams from New England and Indiana for a few years in the 2010s).

the only problem i have is that it shifts stankoven to the third, and we know he's good enough to be on the second over beck... and you can't exactly shift him to wing if he's one of, if not the best, faceoff guy. sorta same with beck (shifting to wing) since he's a good two-way guy but it's easier to move him to wing than stankoven</div></div>
The coaching staff should try both as 3C and see who's best suited for the role imo. Stankoven does mainly play RW in the WHL, so it doesn't seem unlikely he gets the 2RW spot.

Upgrades
We saw Zegras on the Wing, and he's far better at C. Yes, he's not good at face-offs (at the moment) but this is the case for a lot of young Centers and you don't just move them to Wing permanently because of that. And yes, Zegras isn't the tallest / heaviest but I fail to see why that should exclude him from Center duties. Hughes, McDavid, MacKinnon, Aho, Larkin, Point; all of these aren't the tallest and/or strongest and yet they're among the best Cs in the game. Don't agree on that one. (<strong>If</strong> the Ducks got lucky and drafted Bedard, I do think this scenario gets more likely though. But not for the reasons mentioned above and I'm confident that they would try McTavish on Bedard's Wing first.)
Trades look good to me.
Comtois deal looks like a bit much, haven't been to impressed with him. But with the cap hopefully going up regularly in the coming years, I'd be fine with that contract.
