Question
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Talking_Senators</b></div><div>Fair points. I do like JBD and I do think he could become a good bottom pair defenseman. It also depends on a potential return for Joseph. However, personally, I'd rather lose JBD than Joseph. And of course giving up assets to get rid of Joseph would be idiotic at this point. Anyways, remains to be seen.</div></div>
Joseph's game is such that the Sens should not be giving up assets. People in CF see an issue and think their team will get a good player, a strong additional asset for nothing. No. Joseph comes with term.... and that is worth something. The contract isn't Josh Amderson bad by any stretch.
I see something similar to the Paul for Joseph deal frankly. A slight downgrade, but not so much so as to do determental harm.
I was looking at Winnipeg and David Gustafsson. Young, contract control, bottom 6 forward..... that kind of idea. The issue with the Jets is where on earth does Joesph play lol. Their forward core is very very balanced, so I doubt Chevy would bit. But the construct is the important thought there.

Question
I for one thought JBD had a line on a starting spot this season.... then Dorion signs Hamonic.... so essentially he is the #7.
Loosing him to waivers would be bad asset management imo. He won't fetch a lot on the open market, but something is better than nothing.
Beyond that, I do believe trying to move some money is the right move here. The Sens do have defensive depth organizationally, but I question how ready it is right now. Kleven looks great, but a full year in Belleville is probably the right course of action. Lassi is what he is, and could be a waiver causality as well.
The Sens have options. But, Dorion actually did address the blueline at the TDL last season. To risk making that depth shallow would undo the work.
Moving on from Joseph makes sense at this stage..... and I maintain that a Joseph deal will look more like a hockey deal than a cap dump. The guy can play some solid 3rd line minutes, albeit slightly overpaid. But as I continue to point out, next season that cap hit will pretty much fall in line; meaning the "big" sweetener may not have to be so big - especially if the deal is made with a team looking for contract certainty.

There's no such thing as an idiot trying to make someone else look dumb. I've seen that movie a million times before though so nothing new
Since you're very slow, I'm going to explain it in a way that will be easier for you to understand.
OP proposed Seeler + 2nd for Brannstrom, you say it should be Brannstrom + 2nd for Seeler
You probably have no idea about logics or maths but the difference in value here is TWO second rounders
Someone just posted Brannstrom's card. There's no chance that you'd have to add a 2nd to the rising 23 y/o 2-way D-man to get a 30 y/o 6th D-man that you can find anywhere on UFA and even on waivers sometimes.
But what am I doing arguing with you? It's pretty much pointless :tearsofjoy

Sorry I meant they can’t retain because they have Pinto still to sign! They have the ability to but I think they’d want the entire contract of the books since Pinto is looking at around 2-3m

Murray Buy Out Go Big
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Talking_Senators</b></div><div>I like Crouse but that's a crazy price to pay for someone with a career high 45 points.</div></div>
Yeah this is an INSANE price
Crouse averaged 15 more points per 82 games than Joseph the last 2 seasons (which are Crouse's best 2 seasons). They are both good defensively but Joseph has elite PK metrics
Oh and Crouse makes 1.35 AAV more per season than Joseph
So to get that upgrade on Joseph, you'd pay :
2024 1st round pick (DET)
2025 2nd round pick (OTT)
Järventie, Roby : worth a late 1st at least
Thomson, Lassi : worth a 2nd
That is A LOT MORE than what the Sens got for Alex DeBrincat
Jarventie is a top-6 sniper prospect. 33 goals 62 pts pace in the AHL last season, had a pretty damn good WJC. He's still 20 years old as we speak

DeBrincat Value Down
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Talking_Senators</b></div><div>Let's assume the market is roughly what LA paid for Dubois. So a middle 6 forward with a decent cap hit (Iaffalo) could be Kubalik or Fabrri, a young(ish) player with upside (Vilardi) could be Berggren, a B/C level prospect (Kupari) and a 2nd round pick. Now, I do think Dubois' value is higher than Debrincat given he's a big centre. But by how much? He'll be earning roughly the same money assuming 8-8.8 mil. I would have to think that Debrincat's value as of now is something along the lines of 3 assets (Roster player, decent prospect and 1st/2nd round pick). So in this scenario, Kubalik/Fabbri, Berggren and a 2nd is actually what the price should be.
Who the hell knows, just basing this off what I think and what the market has told us.</div></div>
Seems like Vilardi should have much higher value than Berggren, no?

DeBrincat Value Down
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>Ive seen Detroit fans value Berggren very highly this summer, but I never heard of him before the summer so can only go off his boxcar stats. They seem solid enough but not particularly special. What makes you folks think so highly of him (genuine question, tone not always obvious online)?</div></div>
Every fanbase has a tendency to overvalue certain prospects. Right now, it's Berggren.
IMO, Berggren's ceiling is a 2nd line player, but more likely is a good 3rd line player on a playoff team when it's all said and done. A number of fans think he'll have a career similar to Jiri Hudler.

DeBrincat is a 40 goal scorer, Berggren is a largely unproven prospect so no they are not equal in value.

Out of necessity the team will probably give him a 1 year deal for 1.5 while making it very clear that it’s a cap thing and they’ll make up for it next summer.
