Goodrow and Marchessault

If the Rangers buyout Goodrow this summer they gain extra space next year, and then the following year the cap hit is $1 million. After that it’s $3.5 million for one year, but that’s after Panarin and Trouba’s contracts end.

Yakapov's Numbers through 4 seasons:
2012–13 Edmonton Oilers NHL 48 17 14 31
2013–14 Edmonton Oilers NHL 63 11 13 24
2014–15 Edmonton Oilers NHL 81 14 19 33
2015–16 Edmonton Oilers NHL 60 8 15 23

2020–21 New York Rangers NHL 48 9 8 17
2021–22 New York Rangers NHL 43 7 11 18
2022–23 New York Rangers NHL 82 18 22 40
Total Points through 4 seasons: 98
Edit: Lets not forget to mention he has 14 points this year... on pace for his worst season yet</div></div>
This kind of stat watching is part of what makes it so difficult to have a real conversation about Kakko’s contribution at the NHL level. You are comparing him to Yakupov on point production alone when Kakko’s freshman and sophomore seasons were cut short due to Covid, on top of that Yakupov had zero positional awareness and was always chasing the play, whereas Kakko has established himself as being very defensively responsible.
Yakupov’s rookie season was cut short due to the lockout, but he was able to remain conditioned by playing in the KHL.

Hawks should take a gamble on Kaapo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Why are you getting aggressive, do you find I personally insulted you? Do you really think you know better by challenging what other's are saying on this post without providing historical basis or backing logic yourself to support your OPINION? Try looking in a mirror before responding to people's opinions aggressively.
Let's spell out the obvious...
From a offensive production standpoint...
He's a .38ppg career player after 5 seasons after 1 okay season last year boosting his offensive production to .48ppg
This season he's down to a .28ppg player, which is his worst offensive production in 5 seasons.
The arrow is trending the wrong way offensively. Beyond not finding a way to product offensively, another issue is his skating isn't the best at the pro level.
Defensively he's pretty good, not great, but pretty good which is his best quality in the NHL.
All signs point to him being a bottom 6 player, after 5 seasons, on a playoff team. Those types of players at most garner late 1sts and usually 2nds and 3rds. However, given his age and draft spot, there's a little left to predraft qualities that can boost him potentially to getting a late 1st...potentially.
So no, it's not a made-up valuation; take it down a notch guy.</div></div>
Lmao if you consider my one sentence response refuting your claim aggressive then idk what to tell you. There’s an ignore function you are free to use.

Hawks should take a gamble on Kaapo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Easy, his results after 5 seasons puts him at a 2nd. If the Hawks agree to slightly overpay versus going rate, Rangers do this all day if that 1st is more valuable then the Rangers can get for Kaapo in trade value for another player. Trades are a part of a larger strategy often times and aren't just in isolation. If the Rangers, assuming they test Kaapo's market to acquire another player, only has the value of a 2nd and one team (Hawks) offer a late 1st, they do it. Now they have more value to work with to get a player to help them now.</div></div>
So it’s your own made-up valuation with no historical basis or backing logic, got it.

Hawks should take a gamble on Kaapo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>There's not 1 player on the Hawks roster outside of Bedard that would be in the Rangers top 6, let alone top 9. The point is, a rebuilding team has the flexibility to take a flyer and not loose much if they can't extract more value from Kaapo and if not, they overpaid slightly. The Rangers on the other hand need help now and a 1st round pick gives them an asset to help them get help now that arguably is better than they would get for KK. At this point, he's probably worth a 2nd, so Hawks slightly overpay and Rangers get that asset to make a play for someone else.
Trades don't always happen in vacuums.</div></div>
What do you base Kakko being worth a 2nd on? If the Rangers wanted to make a move to improve the team, why wouldn’t they just trade Kakko for an NHL player instead of making a trade that would necessitate another move?

It’s interesting that fans making ACGMs trading for Kakko seem to be placing him in their top-six despite the fact he’s apparently only worth a 2nd. The majority of Rangers fans don’t want to get rid of him at all, turning down these kinds of trades has nothing to do with Kakko’s value in a vacuum, but rather what he provides to the team as it is trying to compete. A 2025 late first does nothing to help the Rangers now.

It’s not an exaggeration, it’s pretty simple math. Barron is waiver eligible next season and is looking like the odd-man out in the group of Guhle, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Hutson, and Xhekaj. Even if Reinbacher and Hutson stay in the AHL next season, the Habs probably aren’t going to run a D with four or more 23-and-under guys. There’s also guys like Harris and Struble in the mix.
Besides, I didn’t say that Barron was worth putting on waivers, I said he’a closer to that than being a top-four guy at this point. His physical play and compete is seemingly non-existent for a guy his size.

What is Kakko's value?
I dont know too many fanbases that want anything to do with him. Doesnt have the pace. This price of a 1st and top4 RHD prospect seems more in line with what it will cost to get a Lundell out of Florida if they can sign guys like Montour/Reinhart, Lundell is a productive center and can play a 200 foot game.
One dimensional guys like Holtz/Kakko if traded will be done at their lowest value, you'd think.</div></div>
Barron was acquired by Montreal as a top-4 RHD prospect, but he has not developed to be one and is closer to being lost on waivers than making the Habs in a top-4 role.

Based on Katlsson’s recent comments to the media and the fact he has an NMC, it sounds like he has zero interest in accepting a trade back to Ottawa.

Much rather have Trouba at $8 mil for two more years than Kadri at $7 mil for five more years. The Rangers’ first going to Calgary makes this even worse for NY.
Either way, the Rangers already have Zibanejad and Trocheck signed long-term so they would decline without a second thought.

Vatrano may be one of the most overrated players on this site by Rangers fans, and I have been saying for some time now that I hope the Rangers don’t acquire him. He had one playoff run where he benefitted immensely from his line mates, and one highly productive season this year where he’s given prime minutes in every situation on a bottom-feeder. I would much rather have Roslovic for a distant 4th than Vatrano for a 1st.

It’s similar wording for two different rules. You can’t trade for a player you traded away within the same calendar year, and you can’t make two traded for the same player with salary retention in one year. One rule deals with collusion, the other deals with cap circumvention.

The Rangers can afford his full cap hit without issue, but that along with his NMC means the cost would probably be reduced to a mid/late-round pick.
