nylander vs. hornqvist isn't even close either. hornqvist had 22g 51p in 82gp at 28 years old, nylander had 31g 59p in 68gp at 24 years old
so.... you are incorrect lol

What exactly do you hope to accomplish by this comment?
There has been several posts about how the Leafs and Dubas specifically should have somehow predicted a pandemic and the resulting flat cap which would justify them saying Tavares was a bad signing. This ACGM specifically outlines why regardless of the flat cap that Tavares was still a great signing for Toronto. Notice how none of the ACGMs are commenting on this thread? Because he raises really good points. Also there's several of us Leafs fans commenting in support of his analysis of JT. Some Leafs fans bash their good players but not all of them do.
Go troll somebody else.

Dubas could have gotten dirty and done it through the media.
Marner camp can't have it both ways - Hometown boy wants to do anything to help the team, but also wants every single penny he can get.
I don't love the number, but i just tell myself, it's better to overpay your stars (my coping mechanism).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barilko14</b></div><div>Yeah, my opinion on Marner has tilted a bit.
Nylander = good contract, and he fought for term, becasue he knew/knows he's the most likely to be dealt, he wants to stay in Toronto, and if he signed a bridge deal, it's way more likely he's dealt before his next deal
Tavares= top tier UFA cost big bucks
Matthews= franchise player
Marner=I think Lou and Babs have a lot to do with this contract. Lou says we don't give out full bonuses, then signs Matthews the next summer with full bonuses (Lou had to, but it screwed over Marner). Then having to play for a coach you don't like doesn't really encourage taking a team-friendly deal (and at the time of signing there was no reason to think Babcock wasn't going to be around for awhile). I also think Marner's dad has a Napoleon complex and was likely telling Mitch and Ferris the whole time that Marner deserves Matthews' $$.
That's just my take though.</div></div>
I would've pressed my number harder and forced him to either take it or sign MIN or CBJ offer-sheets for compensation.

The majority of us love him here, hometown superstar talent that finally wants to play here. Others (like the guy you quoted) have nothing better to do then bash players for no apparent reason.
It has been so long since the Leafs have had any real success, that fans will find anything to complain about. In this case, there is nothing to complain about. He is the best UFA signing they have signed in what feels like forever.

Toronto will never win a cup paying 4 forwards 40 Million. Keep the three young players and trade Jonny...... Oh **** you gave him a NMC. Well i guess you have to trade one of your young players if you want to have a chance at a cup.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barilko14</b></div><div>$40M on 4 fwds is the lazy excuse that fans use to explain the Leafs playoff losses.
Bad coaching (to start the year), lack of overall team defence (again mostly a coaching/systems issue), lack of maturity/consistency, and below avg goaltending were the true downfalls last year - none of those are related to $40M on 4 fwds.</div></div>
the penguins won back to back cups spending 40% of their cap on kessel, crosby, malkin, and hornqvist
they spent 66% of their cap on forwards, the leafs are spending 65%

I do think Tavares gets the raw end of the stick on here more than he probably should. But I don't understand the Leafs fans on here anyway. They hate on Taveras and Marner, but are OBSESSED with Nylander who still has a career high of 61 points. It's mind boggling.
It's displaced anger as to why Tavares gets beef. He's the #1 OA...He's the Captain...He gets PAID. So when his results are 1 single playoff series win in an 11 year career. He's the guy that gets heat.
I will say...it's expected to be all of what you're saying. He's supposed to be a "leader, and makes everyone around him better. Not once has Tavares been at the center of a controversy, not once has he been unhappy where hes played, not once has he complained about his line mates or coaches" That's BASE expectations. Pay me $11M a year and I promise I'll do everything above expect make my line mates better. That's 5 out of 6 points you made.
It's just frustration. TOR fans will be singing his praises in no time.

This is why a ton of players don't want to come to Toronto. It's a large fanbase but there is a very vocal section of chuds who will through anyone and everyone under the bus if things aren't absolutely perfect.</div></div>
It’s actually .95 lol
And yeah, it’s the largest fan base, the centre of hockey in Ontario/ Canada basically (surrounded areas included), and a major media area. The amount of “media product” that’s demanded to feed the mouths is massive. And with so many people it becomes so loud because you could have 100 thousand fans crying for his head and than 200 thousand loving him, but that’s a very loud 100k (and a large group) and combined the fanbase needs more and more product so all the stations and personnel have to feed them. Add on top of that that once Toronto began to get better, the raptors actually got better and then won it all - whereas Toronto has gained no real ground. So you have a major disconnect where you have champion team - then fail every year on the other side.
