Islanders Decline. Mike Hoffman doesn't help the Islanders at all. They have enough old bottom-six wingers. The 5th and Kovacevic are worthless. Islanders already have Pulock, Dobson, and Mayfield on RD.

Exactly what the Islanders want to do is take on an older, more expensive winger with even more term. Oh not to mention a guy that is worse than Beauvillier. Great trade! ... Sike

Either a buyout or a wild and crazy time
Trouba has a full NMC for this season and next season then a 15 team in 2024-25 and 12 teams in 25-26. Rangers are stuck with their "cApTaIn" for at least another year. Even if he didn't have any trade protection a 2nd rounder a year from now for a 8 mill defender for 3 more years is hilarious. It took a 2nd and a conditional 2nd/3rd to get rid of Patrick Nemeth.

The Islanders have arguably the deepest center depth in the league. (Barzal, Nelson, Pageau, Cizikas) Why would they want Towes? They would be interested in Kane.

That is awful value for Mayfield. You are NOT getting Mayfield, a fringe top 4 RD, for a mid to late 2nd rounder in 2 years and an LD prospect. We already have Salo and Bolduc who are better than Kral.

Islanders are not trading Dobson. Yes, the Islanders need a 1st line winger to play with Barzal but those are easier to find in free agency than a top RD. Also if they trade Dobson they would have 2 giant whole on RD come the off-season. (Dobson and Mayfield)

Islanders decline.
Alex DeBrincat was traded to Ottawa for a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd. Marner might be better but not a bonified 1 RD on a team-friendly deal for 7 more years. A top/middle six LW and a promising young RW better. The Holl, Malgin, 5th Round pick part is all window dressing, there is little to no value in any of those pieces.

The Islanders average age is 28.23. The Toronto Maple Leafs average ....... 28.23. tHe iSlAnDeRs ArE oLd. The Islanders were super old because they had Chara and Greene on their roster. Hopefully, you guys can figure it out soon or Matthews will pull a Tavares. Get sick of not winning and scurry off to another city.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Even if he's only going to be a 6th/7th D, I don't really hate this for the Islanders. There's really not a ton of depth currently in the system, and while Reilly would be a pricey guy as a healthy scratch, having reliable depth is something the team was missing last season. As it stands right now, the first guys up beyond the presumptive top 6 D are Aho & Grant Hutton - not exactly an incredibly hopeful pair.</div></div>
Yes, pricey but I think Reilly would take the 3rd LD spot over Salo.

I don't think it would hurt for the Islanders to sign a veteran 3rd LD. De Haan on that contract would be perfect. It would allow Salo the NHL experience but also provide the Islanders with a safety net. De Haan is only 31. It's not 44-year-old Chara or 38-year-old Greene.
I think they should waive/send Martin to Bridgeport, not Johnston. I'm sorry it's time to let Johnston or Bellows or Parise crash and bang on the 4th line. It would also save them about 1 mill in cap space.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>You dont have to pay to dump Drouin. You keep him. They arent in cap trouble. If he actually performs and can remain healthy with his wrist issues then maybe you get an asset at the TDL otherwise let him walk. He said himself he will probably never be 100% with his wrist injury.
You cant trade Allen with the Price news. Montreal doesnt want to win games, necessarily but they want to remain competitive to sell tickets. Allen isnt going anywhere and they may extend him.
The Dvorak trade is pointless. Beauvilier value isnt that high in this market. He wouldnt even get a 2nd on his own. He's a late 1st that has never performed consistently above 39 pts yet is paid like a top6 winger ala Toffoli and the Isles have been trying to move him all Summer but my guess is that they dont want to pay to move his 2 year term.</div></div>
I don't think the Islanders were ever really looking to trade him. As you said his value this off-season is the lowest it has ever been. I think with all the Kadri speculation people looked at Beauviller as a potential candidate to get moved because he is only 25 and has shown he can play. (Ala Oliver Bjorkstrand type deal) I agree his point totals are meh, but Trotz's system doesn't help anybody lol. I could see him being a 45-50 point winger on a more offensive team. He has been good come playoff time. 14 points in 22 games in 2019-2020 and 13 points in 19 games in 2020-2021.

There's a whole bunch of teams that need to clear cap space. (Leafs, Vegas, Oilers, etc) The Leafs will have to pay to move cap space. (ie: Calgary today and Rangers at beginning of free agency) No GM is gonna be like "Dubas is a nice man, let's do him a favor!"
Islanders would be interested in Sandin. A package could consist of a 2nd/3rd/4th round pick and Salo or Bolduc (To lessen the blow of losing a young LD)

A good but older UFA RHD. The pick is likely a mid 1st. If a top 10 Lou is a goner.
Starting a package without Dobson but $ in $ out probably needs 4 pieces coming back one being a dump.</div></div>
To be honest, I think trade talks between the Isles and Canucks might have happened at/near the Draft. Now I don't think so much. Canucks were probably interested in the 13th pick. And now the Islanders don't really have the assets to swing it/not the assets Canucks would want.

I would argue Bellows is worth about/more than a second. Yes, he is 24 and only put up 19 points in 45 games last season but I think he has some really good potential and could be a very efficient middle-6 guy. He still has a good shot and skates pretty well. He is also surprisingly very physical. 103 Hits in 45 games. And Trotz's system has made him more defensively responsible. He's also been given wacky opportunities. In many games last season Trotz had him playing RW, Bellows is an LW/C. He was also in and out of the line-up and to start the season the Islanders were also just a straight-up mess.
What percentage of 2nd round picks make it to the NHL? Something like 35%

I would strongly disagree, Dufour is a B+ prospect. He is big and has a good shot but his skating is meh. Kidney is a year younger and put up 16 fewer points in the QMJHL. Jake Evans is 26, already in the NHL, and putting up 29 points. AND for MTL to add a 2nd.

Islanders will want a goalie back whether that is Brossoit or Thompson is what really decides the package. I'm sure Vegas fans have looked at the goalie free agent market and see the picking in terms if reliable goalies is SLIIIIM and the Islanders do not have an NHL backup waiting in the wings.
