<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>Does he though? I really feel like what we've seen from Ritchie is what we're going to get. He can't skate, he's never going to be able to skate but he does has good hands. He just seems incapable of not taking bad penalties but all-in-all he's a 30ish point player making absolute peanuts for the next two years. Honestly, I think if we hadn't drafted him 10th overall I don't think so many of us would be so down on him. But I'm absolutely done thinking he's ever going to be more than the player he is right now. I wouldn't give him away just for the sake of giving him away but if another team really covets him I wouldn't hesitate if they're offering a decent return.</div></div>

I definitely agree with this take. I think as much as we wish we got a better player at 10, especially considering 2014 ended up yielding a lot of good players after 10 (Vrana, Larkin [oof], Sanheim, Deangelo, Kapanen, and of course Pastranak), we didn't. And that happens. From a draft perspective, Ritchie is one of the biggest busts of the first round. But if you look at contract to contribution, he's a steal. When Ritchie plays well he can generate good offense, is a solid front net presence, and a physical force. That being said, I don't think he fits the future of the Ducks. We saw in buffalo that our team plays best quick, scrappy, and creatively. Ritchie is not that. I think there is a better fit on another team, but I would be surprised if a team pursuing him offers more than a late pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AFOX10900</b></div><div>A. Sprong isnt a 4th liner, he will never be, plus FHCGMBM doesnt want him there, why he got waived, and I believe that Steel is also waiver exempt, and Lundestrom has looked fantastic on the Swede line, and i would put Kase with Getz, Getz's line hasn't looked fantastic (I haven't watched much though... East coast sucks sometimes) with a guy like Sam Carrick on his wing with Comtois</div></div>

None of this was based on actuality. This is just what I would do. But I guess I might as well justify my opinions:

A lot of the lineup focuses on protecting players from the expansion draft. Right now, this is how I see protections going:
(7/3/1) &gt; Henrique, Kase, Silfverberg, Rakell, Steel, Comtois, Terry / Lindholm, Fowler, Manson / Gibson
(8/1) &gt; Henrique, Kase, Silfverberg, Rakell, Lindholm, Folwer, Manson, Guhle / Gibson
As it is, we are exposing a LOT of good young players. Larsson, Mahura, Jones, etc.

I put Sprong on the 4th line because I want him to have a chance to outplay Kase and Terry. If he doesnt, I think we give up on the Sprong experiment like Pitt did. AHL won't help him as he will probably produce fine down there. He needs to find consistency.

I REALLY like the Swede line. That being said, because I like Lundestrom so much, I rather him not have 2019-20 count against him or his contract. Ducks are a bubble team, not likely a Stanley Cup team. Rakell and Silf will be here next year. I rather play Steel now than Lundestrom as Steel will be 1 of top 6 Centers until Zegras is ready. The future of Zegras being 1C and Lundestrom or Steel being 2C is only a few years away.

I like Getz with Kase, but I also like him with Terry. I think Henrique and Kase have good chemistry and Henrique puts him in less dangerous situations. Getz is use to playing with power forwards and stronger guys, and Kase is just too injury prone to be that guy, Carrick is fun to watch and a great call up option. But much lower on the depth chart for me.

Thread: Laine Rumour
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>Isn't the premise of this trade based on a rumor some guy tweeted out?

Murray hasn't had to negotiate a contract with a young superstar of Laine's caliber though. I don't think they pull the trigger on a trade unless they've already discussed specific terms and if that's the kind of money Laine would settle for why not just re-sign with the Jets? Or I'm sure there's another team with less stringent budget constraints that could offer him more. Bottom line is I feel like Bob's (David McNab's really) usual magic with re-signing young RFAs wouldn't work on Laine. Unless he really wants to play here which he might but that seems unlikely.</div></div>

Yeah, but the first three words are “Just for fun”. I don’t think anyone has high expectations of Laine ending up in ANA.

Fair enough.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>Ummm. Laine has a statistically better shot that ov. And it’s more powerful. It dipped last year (probably from doing little training in the summer). He is also bigger. If he can round out his game he will be. He doesn’t have the head start that ov had (playing with a playmaking Center since the beginning) but he will get one as soon as next year. He won’t ever get the same goal total because of that but I could see laine becoming that good. Ov is a legend don’t get me wrong, but Laine could be just as good. The only thing holding him back is consistency and commitment</div></div>

Completely disagree. Laine doesn’t have that upside, not even close. Laine may have a “statistically better shot” (sample size!) and one that is “more powerful” (don’t even think this is true or how you would even know), but Ovi wins in all other areas and by a country mile in some.

Quite frankly, your suggestion that Ovi was/has been somehow carried by Backstrom is hilarious and reeks of pure delusion. Ovi drives his own play and consistently produces something (often a goal) out of absolutely nothing. Go watch a highlight reel if you need reminding. Clearly Laine doesn’t, otherwise he wouldn’t need excuses of “not having a playmaking C to play with”.

Laine is an elite goal scorer, but his game is too 1-dimensional for him to be a generational talent. Don’t see what you’re seeing, and I don’t think many do either. Might I suggest you pop off those red, white and blue tinted glasses every once and a while.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>Was Comtois's time with the Gulls in the playoffs not a stint? Not to mention he looked really good when started the year with the big club. Hell, I'm not convinced he wouldn't have spent the whole year with us if he hadn't get injured. To me the real question is whether he beats out Jones for that spot because I think it'll really come down to one or the other. If Jones can find the net rather than the post or the know of the goalie's stick than I think he might eek out Comtois for that spot. But I think they're both ready to take that next step.

As for the D, I don't think Mahura is going to see much action early if we're healthy. People seem to keep crapping on Del Zotto but for 700K and an assumed 5th/6th spot he'll be fine. And I feel like Guhle is definitely higher than Mahura on the depth chart. I'd be real surprised if Mahura hops over him by the beginning of the year. Hakanpaa is the realy wild card. We have no idea how his game is going to translate to this level.</div></div>

100% it was, I didn't say it was impossible for him to make it, and I want him to. At the same time I don't want to rush him so if he needs more seasoning that's what I want. He got sent down last year in part so we don't need to protect him in the expansion. I feel like Comtois has the edge over Jones, I just went conservative with my lineup instead of putting Comtois in the NHL off the bat, If he does end up in SD I see him there maybe 10-15 games tops, just if he doesn't have a good camp/ preseason to let him get his feet under him. I can also see him making the roster out of camp however.

I'm one of the few that really liked the Del Zotto signing solid depth at 750k, nothing to be mad about imo. I feel like Guhle and Mahura are interchangable, and Larsson is above them imo. I'm very interested in Hakanpaa I hope he can add some stability to the right side

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>This is said about Sprong a lot but he mostly played in the bottom-six last year. His even-strength ice-time was 11:48 which was on par with Derek Grant. 15 of his 19 points were at even-strength so it's not like he was ineffective with his limited ice-time. I mean, if we were deploying a fourth-line of grinders that see the ice once in a while I could understand this position but that wasn't the case and won't be the case going forward. Eakins has already said he plans to roll four lines and he kind of has to. If anything I see Sprong as a weapon down in the lineup because his skill is far superior to your average bottom-six forward.

At the very least there is zero pressure to move him. He makes absolute peanuts and if he produces like he did last year over an entire season he'll be one of the biggest bargains in the league. If not, he's a 700K player that'll have a nice spot to watch the games in club section. Plus, it'll really suck if we move him and we get hit with injuries again. It's not like he'll never have an opportunity to play higher in the lineup.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Given how everyone seems to get hurt on this team, I'm sure he'll squeeze his way in there somewhere.</div></div>

Yeah if he accepts the role of a 4th liner (where I see him) I'd have no desire to trade him unless a deal that makes sense for us comes along. I love him as a player, I can just see a scenario where he could potentially get moved for help on D. He can definitely slide up and down the lineup which makes him very valuable to us. I can't wait to see if Eakins can help him reach his potential
