Stars decline in a heartbeat. Also, why acquire a nhl ready prospect in Bourque if you aren’t going to play him next season?

Yea, trading Bourque for a rental would be dumb as f*ck. Would rather go for cheaper alternatives.

The trade deadline market is never as robust as everyone thinks it will be. Middelstedt I'll give you is probably a bit low given his RFA status. I imagine the Guentzel market for a year will not be what the public thinks it should be.</div></div>
A struggling defenseman, an unproven forward prospect, and a late 1st aren't going to get Guentzel. He won't got for like 2 firsts and the best prospect the team has, but they need more value than hoping another change of scenery with help Nils Lundkvist and an unproven possibly sold prospect.

The teams here are selling low. Flyers will want more, Sabres and Pens will definitely want quite a bit more.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheMooterus</b></div><div>Dallas accepts. You're overrating and overvaluing Dellandrea by quite a bit here.
He's a bottom-6, do-it-all kind of forward that can play up and down the lineup if necessary. Not sure I'd set him as your long term 2RW and I definitely wouldn't be paying him almost $3M a year. I'm one of his bigger supporters and even I'll tell you that he's worth roughly half of that.
Immediate "yes" from Dallas, but honestly you could turn the 1st Round Pick into a 2025 2nd Round Pick and they'd still accept it pretty quickly.</div></div>
I really appreciate your comment. I think from Montreal side Dellandrea could fit well on a 3rd line with Krebs and Newhook. We have so many left handed defenseman and Harris could be a throw in. Dellandrea is still 23 and could help us. I can see :
Caufield Suzuki Slafkovsky
Lindstrom Dach Roy
Newhook Krebs Dellandrea
RHP Beck Heineman
Guhle Matheson
Xhekaj Mailloux
Hutson Reinbacher
Struble
We can trade other pieces to maybe add a real top 6 instead of Roy.

Rental trades generally consider the capability to sign a player long term (outside of Boston last year). I see Dallas trying to get Tanev, but I’d be surprised if they paid a premium for Hanifin with their RFA and UFA picture

csick -- curious to hear your thoughts.</div></div>
Rumours are Ottawa can get equivalent to Brisson and a 2nd or late 1st for tarasenko . So in that case it means it’s missing 1 more piece

Tanev -- Dellandrea, 2nd (someone may pay a 1st)
Hanifin = Bahl, 1st (without retention, top-10 protected pick...if we believe there is good chance Hanifin extends)
Markstrom = Holtz (already agreed to by both sides)
$1.5 million for 2.2 years = 3rd, 5th

first up, i think boston would absolutely have interest in suter, but with two years left on his deal, there's going to need to be more retention than that.
i think this is a massive overpay for matheson. beware the d man that can put up some decent numbers on a team that hasn't played a meaningful game all season. dash 20 and the majority of his points on the powerplay. now, he's likely not going to get the powerplay time in dallas, so what's the point.

mostly a joke because of the whole Vegas // Anaheim // Dadonov thing a couple years back but also wouldn't it have been even faster to just leave dadonov going to OTT?

I'm okay with this as a return for Chychrun - it doesn't all have to be in one transaction. You're opening up cap space to potentially get UFA and/or getting value that can be flipped for the RHD that's needed.

Hanifin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheMooterus</b></div><div>This is more what I was referencing. I don't anticipate Calgary to sign him and then trade him off. That's an extremely rare occurrence in today's NHL. But if I'm Dallas and I am trading for Hanifin, I want to do so knowing that he's willing to discuss/sign an extension pretty immediately after coming to Dallas. If he's adamant that he doesn't want to discuss an extension until the offseason then I don't want to give up Bourque or a 1st for a guy that's more likely to test the open market than re-sign.</div></div>
I think it depends on what their plan is with Duchene. If he's resigning then I could see Borque possibly being available. But I'd be happy with Borque and a 2nd for hanifan, and who ever has to move to make the cap work. Borque and a 1st does seem like an overpay.

With how well Bourque has played this year, I think you're looking at either Bourque + 2nd Round Pick OR a 1st Round Pick + a prospect like Blumel, Kyrou, White, etc. You may see some other pieces in there to flush out the deal, but that would be the core of the return, at least in my eyes.</div></div>
basically the standard has been that NHL teams don't give up their top (really their top two) prospects and a first round pick for a rental. it's just not a thing. if the stars think he's their top prospect, he's not going out the door with a first.

that condition is illegal, and this seems like maybe a slight overpay depending on what you think of Bourque.
