Flames Deadline
Make it a 2nd and Dallas accepts. Even with retention, Tanev is worth a 2nd. He'll get an additional piece like Dellandrea thrown in because it's the deadline, but if a team was willing to pay a 1st for him, he would have been traded already.

Dallas Deadline

Dallas isn't moving any of those players at the deadline though. Lundkvist is still an important part of the roster because he's (currently) one of only 2 right shot defensemen on the roster, and I'd be shocked if Nill traded away the player he gave away a 1st Round Pick for just last year. And the other two are prospects that would cost significantly more for Calgary than just Tanev, who is quite possibly just a 2 month rental.

Dallas accepts. You're overrating and overvaluing Dellandrea by quite a bit here.
He's a bottom-6, do-it-all kind of forward that can play up and down the lineup if necessary. Not sure I'd set him as your long term 2RW and I definitely wouldn't be paying him almost $3M a year. I'm one of his bigger supporters and even I'll tell you that he's worth roughly half of that.
Immediate "yes" from Dallas, but honestly you could turn the 1st Round Pick into a 2025 2nd Round Pick and they'd still accept it pretty quickly.

Don't see Ottawa going for this, tbh. Chychrun likely costs MINIMUM Bourque and a 1st and I just don't see Ottawa willingly taking a 2nd, Craig Smith, and Jani Hakanpaa as the return for Tarasenko and Thomson.

Deadline Blockbuster
Dallas declines. Faksa and a 1st are fine for Tanev, but I can't see Dallas giving up Bourque and Bichsel for Hanifin. The reason they decline isn't because the value isn't mostly fair, it's because they aren't in a position where they can gut their prospect pool. Bourque and Bichsel are expected to play significant roles on this team until the contracts of Seguin & Benn are both done. They provide cheap roster depth and have the potential to play a key role for the Stars right out the gate.
Draft Picks are much more expendable. If Dallas trades for Hanifin, you may get one of those prospects (you should) & either this year's 1st Round Pick or Dallas' 2025 1st Round Pick

Potential Tanev-Stars trades
In order of realistic chances to happen:
1. 5th Trade -- This is what I expect the trade to end up being
2. 4th Trade -- If Dallas doesn't want to move a roster player like Dellandrea, then a Grushnikov caliber prospect & an additional mid-late pick is pretty accurate to accompany the 2nd Round Pick
3. 1st Trade -- Given where Dallas currently is as an organization, guys like Bichsel & Bourque play a large role in this team moving forward. Picks are going to be less valuable to them than their top prospects
4. 3rd Trade -- Bichsel is pretty close to untouchable in a Tanev trade
5. 2nd Trade -- Bourque, also untouchable in a Tanev trade, is AT WORST Dallas' 2nd best prospect and is absolutely torching the AHL this year. Can't see any realistic scenario where Dallas includes Bourque in a Tanev trade

I’m not. Didn't feel like spending the time going through and finding which team needed Dadonov. He wasn’t really the focal point of the ACGM so I used the first team on the list & added the comment to the trade description.

From Sportsnet
Chychrun is the only semi-realistic player that I would be willing to move Bourque for at the deadline. I'm extremely high on Bourque and what he could be, especially with Stankoven, but Chychrun fixes our defense problem for a LONG time & with his ability to play both left & right side (like Heiskanen), Dallas could have an absurd top-4 of:
Harley-Heiskanen
Bichsel-Chychrun
for the next 5+ years

Swap Lundkvist with Dellandrea and you're right there. I don't see Dallas trading away a RD, given how shallow the position already is for them. Tanev is a very solid piece to have in addition to Lundkvist and Hakanpaa. Dallas would likely try to trade out of a position of strength (forwards) rather than a position of scarcity (RD).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shaun80</b></div><div>Though it wasn't truly a sign and trade, you argue Lindholm was.</div></div>
This is more what I was referencing. I don't anticipate Calgary to sign him and then trade him off. That's an extremely rare occurrence in today's NHL. But if I'm Dallas and I am trading for Hanifin, I want to do so knowing that he's willing to discuss/sign an extension pretty immediately after coming to Dallas. If he's adamant that he doesn't want to discuss an extension until the offseason then I don't want to give up Bourque or a 1st for a guy that's more likely to test the open market than re-sign.

This is also why I don't see Dallas making a trade for Hanifin, unless it's a sign and trade. If Dallas is content just trading for a rental, they will go for Tanev or Savard and spend far less than Calgary would want for Hanifin.

Agree with this statement. With how well Bourque has played this year, I think you're looking at either Bourque + 2nd Round Pick OR a 1st Round Pick + a prospect like Blumel, Kyrou, White, etc. You may see some other pieces in there to flush out the deal, but that would be the core of the return, at least in my eyes.

Next Year Stars
- Don’t mind trading for Tanev at the deadline. But a 3-year deal for a soon-to-be 35 year old defenseman is almost exactly what the Stars did with Suter and it has been a glorious failure. Do not make the same mistake again
- I agree that, if it’s one or the other, Dallas should move on from Pavelski and keep Duchene — that being said, Benn is not Pavelski’s top line replacement, Johnston is. DeBoer has been shifting lines a bit over the last month and Johnston has been his go to 1RW with Hintz & Robertson. He’ll be the replacement for Joe.
- Keep Dellandrea & don’t sign Maroon. Maroon is fine for what he’s expected to do, but losing Dellandrea & his ability to play up and down the lineup, in any situation, would be a mistake. He’s going to be super affordable for Dallas as well.
- Agree that the Stars need a buyout this offseason in order to fit everything under the cap, but I don’t see Dadonov as the right player. The contract they need to buy out is Suter’s.
- HARD disagree that the Lindell-Hakanpää pair has been a “solid pair for a couple of years”. They are both solid on the PK, but as a defensive pairing they are among the slowest and worst puck-possession pairings in the league. If Dallas is keeping them (I’m hoping they don’t re-sign Hakanpää), they each need a defenseman playing with them that can effectively move the puck out of their own end.

5 acceptable ways in which the Stars can pay for Tarasenko
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>1. Dadonov is out long-term.
2. Because Tanev and Hanifin might cost more.</div></div>
If it were Duchene, or Robertson, or Johnston, etc. then I'd be more inclined to try and add a forward. I like Dadonov, but he was not a major offensive contributor in Dallas' top-9. Shoot, Sam Steel is almost producing at the same rate as Dadonov. It just doesn't seem worth it for Dallas to use a 1st Round Pick (or equal value) to replace a 3rd line forward when they can either slot in someone like Steel to that role or simply just use Stankoven/Bourque to fill that role.
Tanev should not cost MORE than Tarasenko either. Hanifin, very likely would (and should), but it would also be more worth it for Dallas in the long run. Shoot, if I'm making a deal with Ottawa, Chychrun is probably at the top of my list, given my needs. If I'm Dallas and I'm okay moving some of the assets you have listed here then I'm not going for a middle-6 winger. I want a true top-4 defenseman like Chychrun.

Where did this whole Tarasenko to Dallas thing even come from? Dallas is currently the highest scoring team in the league and have pretty massive holes in their defense that need to be addressed before they even look at adding a forward that they don't need. Why would they spend any assets for Tarasenko instead of going after someone like Tanev or Hanifin?
Also, Bourque and Stankoven are off the table here.
