Forward Groups Ranked
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mv21227</b></div><div>Canucks have better forwards than the Flames and Kraken</div></div>
VAN has very good 1 and 2C and thats it. Kadri and Hubes prolly rebound this year [yes, despite those contracts likely ending poorly... like JT] and SEA had one of the best offenses the league last year.... soooo?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Oh this is by division, I get it now, Minnesota is ranked way too high in the Central, Evason should've got the Jack Adams Award for what he's getting out of that group.
Colorado doesn't have the depth to be ranked 1st in the Central.
Florida is too high in the Atlantic and if center strength is a key factor then Boston should be lower, could argue Detroit ahead of Montreal too.
Washington and the Islanders could maybe swap spots but its close.
Damn, would like to see the defense rankings, league wide D rankings would make for an interesting debate.</div></div>
You can click on my profile to see the ranking on Dcore.
MIN and BOS have one of the best wingers in the game with good winger depth and have <em>some </em>center depth each in Hartman, EK, Coyle. I don't think you realize how bad the central is as opposed to MIN being that strong on F?
Johansen and Colton are upgrades over Compfer, and they have the 2nd best forward in the show at 1C with one of the best wingers which is similar to FLA who also upgraded with ERod. But yeah, I'll put DAL over COL despite Benn/Seguin likely to lose another step this year.
DET and MTL have good 1C's but nothing comparable to BOS, FLA, OTT after that.
Assume WSH has healthy Backstrom.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Metro…Carolina and New Jersey are best forward groups, I’d say by significant margin. Penguins and Rangers are both aging high-end groups and should be the second tier. Philly and Columbus are younger cohorts with more depth than people realize. Islanders and Capitals, both old and mid, should be bottom two.</div></div>
Wheeler and Bonino are the only players over 32 on the Rangers and Laff/Kakko should improve this year making up for that.
Smith is an upgrade over Zucker for PIT [who has the 3rd best F in the league and ageless Malkin 2C] and both NYR and PIT had better production from F's last year to CAR who added Bunting but Staal likely loses a step .... will Jarvis/Drury outgrow Laf/Kak? Prolly not.
CBJ did nothing but add to D this offseason and PHI lost Hayes [bad contract/decent player] and added nothing.

Ranking teams defense by division
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sens65</b></div><div>I strongly, respectfully disagree with the Atlantic Division rankings.
Here's how I would rank it:
Tampa
Boston
Toronto
Ottawa
Buffalo
Florida
Detroit
Montreal</div></div>
BOS is much deeper than TBL, Hedman is basically a 4th F if you watch him play
BUF is deeper than OTT too... I'd just swap those 2 spots and say that's spot on

Change the CAR 2nd to a 1st and you may get retention for 3 years on a top line RW that scores and plays awesome fore/back checking.. He's not a C if that's what you want him to play I think you'd be disappointed.

24 deadline assets

AZU could also retain on him making him 0.875... but really? Who else is better than Boyd for 1.75M that OTT could get for a future 3rd exactly? He's a very good 3C/2RW that's been playing 1/2C because of the team he's on.

Lines and Value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>I wouldn’t hold your breath on Mathews coming, Toronto throwing everything at him to stay, zuck/Boyd probably add more picks at deadline, possibly dumba also, could see some more purchases with some of those stockpiled seconds, gradual build, possibly another dman drafted in 24 first round. Big question will be with how much the cap goes up, could be perfect opportunity to scoop assets. Could also see some preseason moves or through the season of adding assets, more hockey trades with limited roster spots, but more longterm looks for short term fixes for other teams. This team is going to be legit in not too distant future, a rookie of the year Cooley would be pretty sweet for some hype.</div></div>
Matthews either wants to come home to AZU or not, it's totally up to him to value money or location but I think AZU would offer him 14/15M per year as well as any other team... so then its up t him about where he wants to live/play.
I think AZU needs to accelerate the rebuild because they'll have 3 years of entry level contracts to Geekie/Cooley/Guenther and then need to pay them 4-10M each depending how they produce.

Prolly, but the thought is if they are near WC by TDL then grab big contract trade asset for run... MTL/TOR make the most profit in playoffs
Is Price totally done? This team needs a solid top 4 dman to round out the deficiencies of current dmen

If AZU gets Matthews next year they just need to sign/trade for 1/2 Dman and they'd legit compete for a cup
Geekie/Cooley/Guenther line will be ready next year as third line
Macc/[2/3C?]/Crouse
Keller/Matthews/Schmaltz would be an amazing top line
Carcone/Bjug/Kerfoot is a legit 3/4 line
D needs help bigly even if Durzi/Moser can be 1/2 LD
Who do you think could use Zuck/Boyd in exchange for D if they both have good seasons until TDL?

The D is very thin so if any injuries happen.... 95 might be wishful thinking. Forwards are deep and maybe Vej steals a bunch of games, just hangs on Dcore

They can make 20M+ in capspace by sending their injured dumps to LTIR instead so that's not a prob but they do have a logjam of forwards now.
Zucker and Boyd will be on their way out this year so a swap for either would make sense but AZU needs quality dmen

Keller- Hayton - Schmaltz (too good of chemistry at the end of last year to break-up)

Zucker- McBain - Guenther (some offensive talent next to mcbain could help him develop into more of a two way threat)</div></div>
I think Boyd fills in at 3C with Kerfoot and Zucker to pump up their sock before TDL
Might need to send Cooley to start year as 2C in AHL since Jenik is prolly more NHL ready
Durzi plays mostly on the left no?
The team played great last year with 13/7 but too many forwards now with Zuck/Kerfoot
