Ok, so you're kidding then, right? Burke is no longer employed by the Penguins.

Free them both
McDavid and Draisaitl are untradeable.
Any realistic trade that a team would be willing to give up would result in Ken Holland getting the Peter Pocklington treatment. He'd have his Canadian citizenship revoked and have to live out his life in exile in Palm Springs, receiving death threats half a century later.
Any trade that wouldn't get Holland fired would completely destroy the franchise that was trading for him. They'd have absolutely no players, prospect pipeline or high round picks left, and as has been demonstrated in Edmonton, one (or even two) superstar player(s) isn't enough to build a Stanley Cup winner.
McDavid and Draisaitl will either play in Edmonton their entire careers, or they will walk for nothing a la John Tavares when their contracts are up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theozler</b></div><div>I was in between on jarvis and necas. Figured necas was a bit more proven at this point.</div></div>
Yeah, I can see that. However, Jarvis has more team control and is from central Canada which can be useful in projecting whether he'd be willing to stay long-term. Necas is a 1 or 2-year contract away from UFA status and that's not something EDM can afford in a McDavid trade.

If mcdavid were to demand a trade, this is about the best they could get. Nice job.

McDavid to New Jersey
Huge overpay. If this was basketball where one player (LeBron James) can make a difference then sure but this is hockey. Your best player only plays 33% of the game. It’s a true team sport and you’re sending Edmonton 5 first round picks and Jack Hughes is looking like an MVP so far this season. And he’s much younger.

Oilers
Caps wait until they are well and truly out of it but accept. I think that a good comp is actually the Orlov deal last year where they got a 1st and 2nd for Orlov and Hathaway. Jensen is a worse player than Orlov, but Dowd is better than Hathaway and both Jensen and Dowd have term. Caps would also be taking money with term back rather than Craig Smith, so I feel like everything evens out. Love Dowd as a fit in Edmonton and while Jensen has been shaky to start this year he's been super underrated his entire career.

How will this work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theozler</b></div><div>Ya I’d rather improve depth. With letang there I don’t see a need for karlsson. It’ll likely play out like it did with burns which wasn’t great. Dubas however loves to have names</div></div>
Yeah he apparently wanted him in Toronto.
Pettersson and Petry played really well together, and pairing Graves with Letang, think that's a great top 4. Letang will have a bounce back season. I know they're all pro athletes but that dude is one of the top players when it comes to being in shape, he'll be fine.
I'd much rather work on moving Ruttta/Granland/Desmith. That'd put the pens at about $8M in cap space.
I think Dubas is waiting to see what trades play out, there were plenty of various trade rumors across the league and there has been none lol. Think there is a lot left to unfold in FA.

How will this work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theozler</b></div><div>With karlsson having an nmc and yet another small cap increase there’s zero chance this plays out in a typical sense. Sharks will have to take salary back no matter what at least this is off the books in 2 years for the most part instead of 4 and they get a first and 3 rd back.
I think teams may have to think of things like nba teams seem to do. You take back salary equalizers with shorter term and then get your assets with it.</div></div>
Oh I don't disagree that salary has to go back, that's no question. Problem is to me unless the pens can get EK at a $6M cap hit, it's not worth it and as it's been rumored a third party would be involved if this trade were to happen.
The pens would need to move Rutta/Petry/Granlund and get EK at $6M AAV, maybe 7 for it to be worth it. If not the bottom six is left busted.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>The only one in NHL history is Matthew Tkachuk</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theozler</b></div><div>I’m positive there was another but I’m drawing a blank I shall play google detective</div></div>
The other is Hossa to Ottawa. Though unlike Tkachuk, Hossa wasn't aware he was being traded as part of that contract signing. That's why the Tkachuk deal is called the first "true" Sign and Trade in NHL history
Tkachuk was signed prior to the trade because he was not legally able to sign an 8 year extension with the Panthers. Due to the covid CBA change a player must be on your roster prior to the TDL of final year of their contract to sign an 8 year extension with your team. That is also why LA only signed Fiala to a 7 year deal. With a player going into the final year of their contract they are still able to sign an 8 deal with a new team because that TDL before it ends has not passed yet. In this case if lets say Matthews is not signed to a new deal by next years trade deadline then the only team that can sign him to an 8 year deal after the TDL is Toronto, however if he hits unrestricted free agency then on July 1st 2024 then no team can sign him to anything more than 7 years including Toronto. Going back to Tkachuk, Calgary still retained Tkachuk's rights after July 1st due to being a <strong>restricted</strong> free agent, but no team owns your rights if you become an <strong>unrestricted</strong> free agent

Who says no
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DougieGilmour</b></div><div>No team would trade for him unless they know they can extend him.</div></div>
Probably, if made available Toronto would probably allow teams to talk to his agent. That doesn't raise his trade value though.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theozler</b></div><div>I would assume they allow him to be negotiate with ducks. I think this has happened before thougg I can’t remember at the moment.
You lean towards ducks saying no regardless but it was just something I was thinking</div></div>
That does happen but it doesn't raise a players value. The most the selling team can do is give the buyer the middle finger and say "no you don't have permission to talk to him or his agent." That's what Vancouver did this year with Horvat and Buffalo did for a while with Eichel (though he wasn't a pending UFA), eventually Buffalo let teams talk to Eichel and agent after serious bidders emerged.
If made available Matthews would get an excellent return, but at the end of the day the reality is that he is not signed before a trade, and unlike with Tkachuk (who signed right before the trade to Florida) there is no advantage to him signing an extension with Toronto as part of the trade. A trade for Matthews would look very similar value wise to what Erik Karlsson returned as a "1 year rental"
