Dallas very lucky with injuries this season (so far)
Colorado not so much

I think Garland would be a good add for the Devils no matter which line he plays on, the more talented players in the lineup the better.
Besides, the Devils are already paying Wood 3.2m to not do much of anything since November at 4LW.
Don't see why paying Garland 4.9m to do something of value on the 4th line would be an issue.
Garland's wouldn't be very difficult to move either if the Devils ever had to.

Also, the Lindros saga refusing to play for the Nordiques and subsequent trade to the Flyers.

Zetterlund is three years younger, not wildly overpaid and having a better season than Boeser.
Don't see why the Devils would do this even with 50% retention, let alone taking Boeser's full cap hit.

Trades
I don't see the point in the Devils trading for Ghost.
They are well set with their current D corps and spending two picks on a very marginal upgrade on Brendan Smith doesn't seem like the right thing to do.
Besides, the Devils already have Hamilton to run their powerplay, so that further negates any need for Ghost.
I think that's a fair return for Ghost however, I'm sure there'll be some team willing to take him on for that.

Watson doesn't bring anything to the table for the Devils.
With every forward fully healthy on any given gameday the Devils would have to scratch two of Wood, Holtz, Boqvist, Zetterlund and McLeod, all superior players to Watson.
What you call a reasonable trade is basically the Devils setting a 7th rd pick on fire and calling it a day.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJDevils1317</b></div><div>See, I deeeeeply disagree on McLeod being he's a center. That comparable makes zero sense to me. You are comparing Garland to 4th liners on our team? Not a great start.
Right now, we are still trying to cobble a 3rd line. I wouldn't give up a 2nd for a guy showing minimal risk of success this year when we don't have a spot that fits their strength. I'd rather pay more for a guy either more likely to have success with Jack or a 3C that should improve the wings we already have to some degree.</div></div>
I know McLeod is a center, but he is an awful one at that.
He sucks at playing hockey (at the NHL level).
Ruff of course disagrees but McLeod is going at 3 years straight being the Devils worst performing forward (not counting Geertsen).
Just shuffle the bottom six around with Haula and Boqvist as the centers, fill it out with Garland and the other usual wingers, scratch McLeod's ass and reap massive profits.

I don't see the point in the Devils including the Blackwood for Reimer swap as Blackwood quietly is putting together a rather decent season whereas Reimer seems to be playing awfully bad.
As for the rest of the trade, Casey isn't some throw-in.
As a freshman he has been one of the NCAA's top performing defenders.
Holtz + 1st should be more than enough anyway, though any one of Walsh, Bahl and Okhotiuk are likely available if there's a need for a D prospect also.

No need for all that quantity going back to the Devils.
None of the pieces would make it onto their roser anyways.
Just swap the entire package out for Sandin and the Devils would happily give Graves and Wood up.

Interesting 5 way trade
Including Tatar in a Meier deal kind defeats the purpose in the Devils acquiring Meier.
Tatar has been stupid good this year and I don't see why the Sharks would be interested in acquiring a 32 year old pending UFA.
Rather just replace Tatar with a prospect like Mukhammadulin or Casey.

If the Canucks are looking to get Holtz back in a Boeser deal, they'd likely have to add theirs or the Islanders 1st rd pick.
Besides, why wouldn't the Devils just offer that package to the Sharks for Timo Meier?

I think Garland would be a pretty good regardless of where in the lineup he slots in.
The Devils roster would become a lot better just by swapping Garland out for one of Wood or McLeod, or even Boqvist.

Holtz for Meier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DReedy14</b></div><div>I want to hear what you think of Nemec + Holtz</div></div>
Fiala, a star winger just as good as Meier went for #19 pick + B level prospect.
Mark Stone, one of the best two way wingers in the game went for Brännström + a 2nd rd pick.
Taylor Hall, coming off a MVP season got the Devils a 1st + B level prospect + 2 warm bodies.
Alex DeBrincat, coming off two consecutive 40+ goal (per 82 games) seasons got the Blackhawks pick #7 in a rather underwhelming draft + 2nd + 3rd.
Why are you even talking about Nemec?
The Sharks aren't even a lock to get Holtz + a 1st rd pick...

Schenn would be the Devil 8th or 9th best D, and Boeser's value is probably less than Björkstrand's.

Boeser's value is likely around that of Björktrand's.
Without significant retention, the Canucks would be lucky to get Walsh alone back for Boeser.
