Yes, for Swayman.
Not for Markström and a bunch of lesser assets.
The Devils have pretty good depth in their prospect pipeline, your idea of the Devils moving way further back in the draft doesn't fill a need for them.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MyTeamsSuck</b></div><div>Who would you take with that 10th overall? Risk taking Eiserman in the top ten? Celebrini, Demidov, Catton, Lindstrom and Iginla all go before 10. Eiserman is a liability outside of the O zone 99% of the time, Helenius is good, but not insane offensively, Nygard isn’t good enough to risk choosing him as a top ten pick and Connelly is a player with some big holes in his game rn.</div></div>
I'd be happy with Eiserman or Helenius at #10. One of Brandsegg-Nygård, Parekh or Buium could also be available.
There's gonna be a very interesting player available at #10. Is that not why you'd love for the Flames to trade Markström for that pick?

Dvorak type of guys are readily available in free agency.
Barron will be completely blocked off in New Jersey given their RHD corps consists of Hamilton - Marino - Nemec, and Casey waiting in the wings.
While Holtz posses a high end offensive skill set that will complement the Devils top 6 for a number of years to come, as long as the Devils can get a coach that doesn't actively sabotage him.
Not sure why the Devils would be remotely interested in this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MyTeamsSuck</b></div><div>Yall need goaltending pretty damn badly. Marky at 34 is still a top 20 goalie in the league. Rn he has some trust issues with management and needs a change of scenery. Say he’s worth a second on his own, throw retention on and he’s valued at a late first. Throw in VAN first and pair that with the fact that NJ doesn’t need the pick, and that trade gets done, no?</div></div>
No. Trading a super valuable asset like #10 for a mid 30s goalie having a last hurrah of career year but also falling off a cliff right after TDL would be a disastrous move for the Devils.
And what do you mean about the Devils not needing the pick? Picking a top 6 guy up on an ELC for when the Devils are right in the middle of their window of contention would be huge for them.
Besides, it's not like Markström is the only goalie out there.
Ullmark could probably be had for the NJD 2025 1st. Kähkönen played amazing in very difficult circumstances over the course of the season, could easily resign him. Allen had a very good showing too.
Point being, there are plenty of better alternatives than Markström out there for the Devils. Markström never made any sense to acquire, even less so now.

A top 10 pick might be realistic for a goalie like Swayman.
For Markström... not so much.
Not even close, really.

Why? Wood was / is infinitely better than Anderson.
Wouldn't achieve anything other than setting 2.75m worth of cap space on fire.

Over the last three years Siegenthaler has been a top 15 defensive defenceman throughout the league.
Anderson has been one of the weakest overall performers league-wide since... a fair number of years back.
Anderson for Siegenthaler would be nothing short of a disaster for the Devils and should be grounds for firing if Fitzgerald where to pursue this in real life.

No. Would have to be Guhle, if anything.
Mercer is very unlikely to be traded to begin with though. Overall body of work is very impressive, gonna be a perfect compliment to the Devils top 6 over a number of years.

True that this type of player doesn't get traded very often, has probably only happened a handful of times in the last 20 years.
Best comparable that comes to mind is Cory Schneider being traded for the 9th overall pick 10 years ago or so.
This translates very well to this scenario, no? Either the 10th overall pick or Mercer, for Swayman.

Think Rosén has to be swapped out for one of Östlund or Wahlberg for the Devils to bite on that Marino deal.
I like Rosén a lot but wing is gonna be very crowded for the Devils in the foreseeable future, that's also where they have their strongest prospects (Gritsyuk, Hämeenaho, Holtz).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Boqvist is ‘more of the same’ on wing…need a grinder at 4LW. Seven years also seems long for Spence.
Do you think Kähkönen is the guy?</div></div>
At this point you probably know my preferences well enough that I'd always double down on speed over heaviness. I loved Boqvist in the various 4th line roles he got with the Devils over the years and I know that together with Lazar and one of Bastian, Turcotte or Clarke, he'd be crushing it in a depth role.
Disagree on Spence as well. Think this is exactly the type of player you'd want around your team long-term. If one could leverage a lower cap hit against increased return when signing Spence, it'd 100% be the way to go for me.
Besides, could just trade one of him, Hamilton or Casey in 2 years when it starts getting real crowded on that right side.
Bottom line with the Spence deal is, if there's a way to acquire a young , cost controlled gem like him for assets the Devils have in excess, you just have to pursue it.
Last but not least, Kähkönen is definitely among my personal favorites for goalie options in the summer.
Bringing him in at the deadline should realistically endear him to stick around on a low-risk deal.
He had overall a very strong season and he really crushed it in that Devils audition. Thinking a Kaapo - Allen tandem would at the very worst give the Devils the kind of average goaltending needed for the team to get right back into contention.

Would love Swayman with the Devils but there's no comparable goalie trade in the cap era close to justify that return for the Bruins.
Think either Mercer or the 10th-12th overall pick, not both.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CooleyforCalder</b></div><div>A no from Vegas, but not because the trade value is off. Bahl is only 1.2 million cheaper than Hague, so it doesn't save Vegas much money. If Vegas needs to cut money it'll come from someone on D (maybe even Hague) for picks/prospects that won't add to the salary cap for next year. My guess is Theodore for picks (a first and change).
</div></div>
You might be right but if Hague moves out someone has to fill up from the back on their D.
The difference between a league minimum contract and Bahl's 1m is negligible enough for Bahl to make sense to fill that role for them.
Guess I could just make the Devils retain 50% on Bahl as to increase the value for Vegas though.

nah man. rhd like hamilton should return something amazing if somewhat injury free. cap hit% will be less than 10 from 2025 and onward.
besides, wouldn't be the end of the world if they'd just keep hamilton and use casey as a trade chip instead

Honestly a little sad to see Vitek go. He was much better last season than now, he has a lot more talent in him than what’s shown this season so far. Wish him the best of luck.
With that said, this trade reads like a massive W for Fitzy and the Devils. Moving out Vitek for Käkhönen is a straight upgrade in net while also gaining a cleaner cap sheet next year for free.
Doesn’t quite make up for the poor return in the Toffoli deal however.

Enough with this trading for Markström crap, cleaning the coaching staff up (and finding a good deal for Toffoli) should be the Fitzgerald's focus to close out the season.
