The big deal
Proposing the trade of Reinbacher for Quinn is an admission they drafted the wrong guy, and I don’t think Montreal has that in them just yet. I’m also not sure Buffalo would do it. They don’t really need to, and Quinn brings more to the team now than Reinbacher would.

Ideal off-season
Manson is never going to agree to come to Buffalo, which is just as well because you can just keep Jokiharju instead. And you can also forget about Stamkos because why would he want to come to Buffalo? And since you need money to pay players with expiring deals next year, that’s fine too. I doubt Philly wants to give up on Cates, or that Buffalo doesn’t see him and Krebs as redundant (but Cates is clearly the better player right now).

Buying out Clifton is a great way to make sure nobody ever wants to sign with you again. I’m also pretty sure that Brett Pesce would need about 7 million reasons to come to Buffalo not five. You don’t pay that price for Konecny without an extension before the trade is even done.

Komarov is one of the only right handed defenders in our prospect pool. So it’s pretty unlikely they would offer him up. If we are interested, we have plenty of draft picks to offer.

Why would Buffalo want another replacement level forward? They have prospects that will bury him in our system. Krebs alone is better than him. There’s literally nothing here for Buffalo.

I do think you're overpaying krebs. I love the kid but he hasn't had much success. He wouldnt get close to that in a 2 year arb deal, or a 1 year and he'd still be rfa on his next deal.</div></div>
The only way Buffalo should be interested in Foligno would be if Chicago retained half the contract. They overpaid him because they have no intention of being competitive until their younger stars need new contracts, and they need to hit the cap floor. In that respect, Chicago doesn’t exactly have anything Buffalo wants, because we have lots of young players just like the ones they do. And the key players they have are not the ones they would be willing to trade.

It is rather unlikely he gets traded unless he actually asks to leave. Maybe instead of a big splash trade like that one the Sabres do something a little bit smaller to bring in a second line player who fits their needs and only cost maybe half this many assets. For that matter, if they bring in another top six forward, that means less ice time for some of the younger players that they probably want to see produce more.

Maybe it’s time to stop worrying about whether or not the guy is a nice guy and worry about whether or not he’s a good hockey player that makes the team better. He might be an asshole, but he wins. We have a team full of really nice guys who only know how to lose.

The return would probably be a first, a top prospect, and. Second top prospect or going roster player.
It will cost you a first, and probably both Kulich and Rosen.</div></div>
That’s more than any team should pay for him. And that’s keeping in mind He has a relatively team friendly contract. You could argue that Keller is a top line forward on just about any team that tries to trade for him, but a basically top 10 first round pick, a top 20 prospect in the league, and a young productive right handed defender with team control should get you any second line player in his mid 20s that you want. If not Keller, that should be Crouse, right?

I love Matt Roy, but I think you probably have to give him another half million to get him to sign. I don’t see Stamkos wanting to come to Buffalo, we’d have better luck getting Pat Kane to sign here for less money than that too.

I don’t understand why Buffalo would trade for both of them. If you get Cates you don’t need Laughton. Not to mention, I’m pretty sure the brass believes in our center prospects enough to think we don’t really need someone else’s. Wahlberg has looked great early, and Ostland is still highly regarded too. Even if Savoie is a pro winger instead of center, and the jury is still out on where Kulich will fit. They still don’t need someone else’s.

If the Sabres are going to give up on Samuelsson it won’t be a 1 for 1 deal for Marino. If that’s the main piece coming to Buffalo New Jersey has to add because of how much younger Samuelsson is and his longer contract.

I think giving away Krebs is not the way to go. If you’re going to trade him it’s part of a bigger package to get a real impact player, not a third round pick.

He has a full no movement clause. There is no market for Skinner because there is no trade he will agree to. That’s pretty much the whole thing. And there’s no point in buying him out because then you’re just paying money for nothing. He’s still a 20-25 goal and close to 50-60 point player, not worth $9 million a year, but worth more than the cap penalty you’re paying to get rid of him.

Krebs may not be what he was drafted to be, but in a full season on the 3rd line he’ll likely match what Laughton puts up for half the money. So no, we don’t want your overrated 3rd liner at that price.

Giving up Greenway for a goon seems counterproductive. He wouldn’t be worth that much; the Sabres should be able to acquire him for a mid round pick if they like him.

Laughton sucks, a lot. I wouldn’t pay either of those two assets to get him. Philly probably has to pay Buffalo to take him. Adding yet another left-handed defender probably doesn’t make any sense either.

You’re overvaluing Marino again. Marino for Samuelsson one for one isn’t even fair, Samuelsson is younger with a longer-term contract at a pretty fair price for a top four defenseman. He might not be top four in Buffalo because they have an embarrassment of riches on the left side, but he would be almost anywhere else. The Devils are the ones adding picks to this trade, not Buffalo.

Both trades see Buffalo adding a left-handed defenseman. Of all the positions on this team I’d say that’s the one where we don’t need anyone else. You might say they would only do one of these deals, but I don’t think there’s any good reason they should do either of them.

Some people think Sam Reinhart would probably get $11 million from someone, so why would he come back for less than that? Not to mention signing him to that much money basically means you have nothing to pay Quinn or Peterka with the next year. Oh, and Luukkonen is going to want close to double that, and he’s probably earned it.
