(CBJ / NSH) - Jones for Johansen

Imagine Nashville having 5 top pairing defensemen if they didn't trade Jones...
They still needed to do it, especially when Ribeiro fell off a cliff. It's just fun thinking about a defense where either Seth Jones or Ryan Ellis is on the third pair.

This is almost criminal,
As a canes fan: I love it,
As a pens fan: I would like to file a police report, this type of assault should not go unpunished

Wow. This is an absolute fleece job by Carolina. I like Koivunen a lot, Lucius is solid, and Ponomarev is alright, but this is Jake freakin' Guentzel we are talking about. Pittsburgh doesnt even get a 1st unless Carolina makes the SCF. Feels like Dubas could've done so much better, guys like Morrow or Blake or Nadeau would've been far more fair.
For Carolina, this is the superstar they have long wanted. Guentzel is one of the best wingers in this league, and they didnt even have to give up any of their best prospects to get him. Excellent addition and he will thrive in Carolina.
For Pittsburgh, I already mentioned I really like Koivunen and I think Bunting next to Crosby will be very fun, but man this is underwhelming. I doubt Ponomarev or Lucius become much more than bottom 6ers, and they arent really guys you want to kick off your rebuild. This is going to be a tough pill to shallow for Pens fans who rightfully expected much more for a guy who gave his all to the organization for years.
The real winners here are NHL fans who are thrilled Vegas didnt land Guentzel. Heres to hoping they strike out on Buchnevich as well!

Tampa gets a decent middle six winger.
San Jose gets a disbarred lawyer will who sue video game developers.
Even trade.

Good for Stetcher. I think that maybe, in Edmonton, they can really use him for what he's worth (like they did in Arizona)

Carolina Hurricanes signed Maxime Comtois (1 Year / $775,000 AAV)
I've never understood people's infatuation with Comtois, he was the best player on a terrible ducks team a few years back (and wasn't even that good) and then he suddenly became very coveted around the league.
For what comtois is, this is a good signing, but he's not some kind of a game changer.

(ANA/CAR/TOR) - Lyubushkin for Slepets for 2025 3rd (TOR), 2024 6th (TOR)
About as mid of a trade as it gets. The fact there is double retention seems to indicate that there is a larger deal coming. If this is the only move we make, then this TDL will be a complete failure.
I myself don't really like Boosh, but he costs less than league min and it only cost us 2 late picks in a weaker draft class. I can't even find anything to complain about here, its just such a "meh" deal. I guess if I had to pick a winner, I'd say the Ducks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>Matthews next season if Toronto fails again, and if he won't discuss a contract before July 1st 2023 when his NMC kicks in.
Toronto will get a huge package similar to this, even without an extension. Although, it should be noted, at the time of the Karlsson trade this package was seen as a huge let down. San Jose's pick was projected to be in the 15-31 type range, and Norris was seen as a future 3C not a future star.</div></div>
