Trade if LA decides to rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>11 million dollars a year isn't a cap dump that is easy to remove from the books. Also you want speed everywhere in the lineup. All the best defenceman in the NHL are currently under 33 years old (I was going to say under 30 but there are a couple of outliers). Most of the best are under 30 and they all are above average skaters. Lose a step and you are dust in this league. (Unless you are 6'9" and can reach 15 feet in any direction with the wave of a stick, but Chara can get crushed by speed, he just doesn't have any of it anymore)</div></div>
the pens won a cup with Dumo and Hainsey as their top 2 defense men. Neither is particularly fast.
Lets also note that Maatta was the second line pairing and he's slow as hell.
Now if you are done with imaginary hockey, we can get back to reality. You don't need McDavid speed to play defense. That's just a fact. There are plenty of good defensemen over the age of 30. And 2 years on that contract isn't all that bad, considering he may be playing well then. There is always a rebuilding team willing to take a cap dump if the price is right. Fact is getting 5-6 good years out of a top defense man isn't a bad deal. Especially as the cap goes up every year.

i think the kings will ask for marner. i mean u can say whatever u want about doughtys contract and age, but at the end of the day u r getting a norris caliber dman. doughty would be a godsend to the leafs. pretty sure you'll win a cup within the next 2 seasons if u have him on the backend

no ericcson , why are you paying 3 goalies too. if you sign valarmov and god no for 6 million bucks don't pay 2 backups especially coreau who cant play. im all for paying myers back there. he is a good defenseman and his offence is a bit overlooked. I don't have anything against edler or moore but myers yes.

.... hopefully .... Ken Holland doesn’t do something like this. They could actually be good by this year, as long as they don’t sign a bunch of stupid contracts for old guys..

So essentially San Jose gets:
2nd round pick
4th round pick
5th round pick
5th round pick
$4 million in cap space
In exchange for:
Mikkel Boedker
6th round pick
7th round pick

Red Wings 2018-19
Lets be honest.. Not much hope for the Wings with the CAP and the bad contracts.. but this isnt all that bad. its somewhat possible (maybe something else to finalize Ceci). I think Larkin is more in the range of the $6M, closer to Zetterberg, but your not far off. You have CAP space for any changes that come your way in the year. Not bad at all...
We are all dreaming of the day Holland buys out Ericsson.. but of course he cant pull the trigger

(TBL / NYR) - McDonagh, Miller for Namestnikov, Hájek, Howden, 1st, 2nd
OK why are so many people saying TB got the better of NYR? I think this is pretty damn good deal for both teams.
If TB wins the cup and that is major possibility, they'll have landed Howden (1st rounder centerman), Hajek (2nd rounder, 37OA dman), 1st 2018 + 1st 2019.
Miller and Namestnikov pretty much equals for all intensive purposes.
That means McD pretty much was traded for, count them, FOUR 1ST ROUND PICKS. He is a UFA in a year and a half and will get a significant pay raise in his next contract which all but means TB will probably have to not resign him.
IMO, TB gave up a lot and got a lot back but this was a good trade for <strong>both</strong> teams.

So then what did Dallas get in the trade for bishop with his contract up and the trade happened after they could start resigning players but before free agents could be signed? Oh wait, I think they got the rights to him so they could sign him before he went to free agency.

The most SINISTER Offer-Sheet in NHL history
With Eugene Melnyk unwilling to pay top dollar for players GM Joe Sakic could make an already lopsided Duchene deal even more impressive.
With Ottawa deferring their relinquishment of their 2018 selection to 2019 it gives rise to a unique opportunity. Mark Stone being an RFA open him up to offer sheets. Should the Avs make a $7,305,316 offer to Stone it would only require them to give up the AVS 1st, 2nd and 3rd. While the Sens would now own the Avs first three choices they would be without their best forward and with Karlsson likely leaving town they will be short of star talent needed to keep them afloat for the 2018-19 season. The Sens 2019 selection would be even more likely to yield a very high draft pick and would be forced to be given to the Avs.
