Realistic Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bagelbob</b></div><div>can't for the life of me figure why we just want to run back the exact same team we already know isn't good enough to be a championship team again next year, but i guess that's where we're at.</div></div>
Lou has hindered this teams cap situation, there isn’t much improvement to be made. you have to hope a full season on healthy Barzal with Horvat plus the strong second line provide the scoring the team needs, and with Sorokin in net anything is possible. Plus development from Wahlstrom, Dobson, Romanov, and Holmstrom offer hope.

Bro Palmieri was the islanders best forward in the playoffs, isles aren’t dumping him along with a young forward In holmstrom to sign a 31 year old Tarasenko to a 7 YEAR CONTRACT, screwing them cap wise when they need to resign Sorokin.

But I digress, I suppose it would cost a young winger from Buffalo in reality but this isn't reality so I'll trade for whoever I want for pennies</div></div>
Jokiharju is one of the worst defenseman in the NHL, and Ostlund is a solid prospect but not at the level of Savoie (imo). Those two along with a mid range 2nd and a 4th don’t even sniff Dobson.
And I know the bio says this isn’t realistic, but cmon this trade offer like the islanders offering Casey Cizikas, Calle Odelius, plus lowish picks for Tage Thompson.

*proceeds to trade away Dobson, arguably the islanders best OFD since Potvin, the current PP QB, the 23 yo signed to a cheap deal, currently tied for 5th on the TEAM in goals and 5th in the league for D-men goals for *checks notes* a player (albeit amazing) who has one year left on his deal before he hits UFA*

Aho has been pretty good this season, but I still don’t like the idea of Aho-Dobson in the playoffs, they’re too soft and aren’t great at defending.

How close are these
Islanders aren’t interested in Boeser, he’s damaged goods and isn’t a big improvement over Bailey (both have been scratched recently, Boeser has an extra year of term and makes 1.65 more per year). Adding a young defenseman and high draft picks isn’t worth it from the Isles perspective.
Also on the Meier deal, replace one of Iskhakov/Dufour with a 2nd, Isles can’t afford to give up 2 of our top prospects at once, our prospect pool is shallow enough as is.
Overpay on Gustafsson, he’s another Aho type, if we get a depth dman I’d rather get someone who can play defense.

That is not Raty’s worst case lmfao. His worst case is not making the NHL or being a bottom 6 C. Prime Kadri (a 1C) is closer to his ceiling, not his floor. The only prospects in hockey whose floors are 1C’s are Bedard and Fantilli, and Räty is nowhere close to those two.</div></div>

Imo islanders are in need of a star winger more than a *potential* star center, especially when they have Barzal and Nelson (40G pace the past 2 seasons) down the middle. The biggest failure of the islanders in the past 10-15 years is the lack of talent to play with their stars. It’s why Tavares left, and why Barzal hasn’t hit his true potential yet. Räty could be a Suzuki, but he could also be a Glass or Krebs. Trading *potential* in a position of strength for the sure thing in a position of need is something I would do all day.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>Not sure how much u really like him when ur proposing they trade him lol</div></div>
I can love him as a prospect while still seeing the bigger picture. He’s the one of the best prospects the Isles have had in ages, but imo his ceiling is a high end 2C, so it would be foolish to not be open to trading him for the top line winger to pair with Barzal that’s been lacking from this team for years. Räty, like any prospect, can bust and never even sniff the NHL, while Meier is a star forward who immediately launches the Isles into Stanley Cup contention.

Isles
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>Why would the isles trade for Puljujvari the way he is playing rn? Also why would they want to trade Raty lmao</div></div>
Puljujarvi is a dominant 2 way player who makes McDavid better, buying low on him to play with Barzal would be a smart move. https://twitter.com/zjlaing/status/1591097977204281345?s=46&t=A1C8FH7t_pWgwplUfQeGwQ
And Islanders need to add Räty to a Meier trade if they want any chance of beating out other teams like NJ and Holtz.
Räty is at minimum a year away from the NHL, and even when he makes it, he won’t have the immediate impact that Meier would have. Getting Barzal a 40G, 80P caliber winger before players like Nelson/Lee/JGP start their decline is IMO too good to pass up for the chance that Räty develops to a player of Meiers caliber down the road. (And I’m one of Räty’s biggest fans, I would hate to see him leave).
