Free Agents
I really don't understand all of the people thinking the Pens should sign Sheahan. Yes, he will probably be cheap, but he was very mediocre during his tenure in Pittsburgh. Unless there really is no other depth centerman available, I say meh.

Next year if we go on a deep playoff run
I would rather re-sign Ceci on a cheap deal because he has been playing really well with Matheson and try to trade Pettersson for decent value. Having 5/6 defenseman making +4 million is inefficient. The team will also lose someone to expansion. Who that is, idk, but it will most likely be someone from that fourth line.
Also, if the team actually goes far in the playoffs, I personally believe that Zucker will be a big part of that. For the team to succeed, he needs to be that third star, similar to what Kessel was during the back-to-back, but of course, not to that extent. Rolling three good lines with the fourth similar to the Cullen line from back then that adds energy.

Getting Laughton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brgh4life</b></div><div>No, so if Laughton costs a 2nd round pick Pittsburgh is the one who will be paying a 2nd round pick. NJ isn't trading a 2nd for Laughton, only to get a 5th and Riikola from Pittsburgh. The 5th and Riikola are the price for retention and being the third party to get the deal done, BUT those two assets aren't part of the deal to Philly.</div></div>
I think what he's saying is that Pittsburgh has to somehow get NJ a second before any of this can happen because there is no way that the Pens and Philly have any direct interactions.

The thing is, he's an RFA in an expansion year. Unless Pittsburgh protects him, he could very well just be a rental. I know that the Pens will lose a player regardless, but I think that this should be taken into consideration. I personally would not want to see him acquired for anything higher than a third and/or a non-roster player.

Using Waivers
I'm confused, none of these players are on waivers except for Mete and Honka being in the minors. And even if Galchenyuk was on waivers, that experiment didn't work in the past and I doubt it would now.

I agree, I like him better as a wing on the Malkin-Kapanen line. A big center to fill that 3C would be the most ideal trade. Aside from that, I'm fine with nothing else being done to the team.

Pens TDL
People seriously need to stop giving Vancouver big-contract players. They are cap constrained enough as it is with the signing of Pearson. They need as much room as they can get to sign Hughes, Pettersson, and others. It makes no sense why they would reduce their cap space for any reason.

Trade Deadline Ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chigurrhh</b></div><div>These trades actually make the Penguins worse.
Zadorov is about equal to Pettersson in terms of on ice impact. Evan Rodrigues about equal to Sam Bennett and slightly better this year. Mike Hoffman is horrible at 5v5 and much worse than Zucker. </div></div>
Okay, I agree with most people here that these trades are not worth it. But you didn't show the stats comparing Zadorov to Pettersson. Yes, Zadorov is slow as hell, but that factor is greatly exaggerated when a defenseman is a stay-at-home type. If you looked at Zadorov's pairing stats, you'll see that the Zadorov-Murphy pairing is top 3 in the league in xGA/60. Imo, that's pretty impressive, especially considering Chicago's inexperienced goaltending. Now, I am not saying I am dying for the Pens to trade for Zadorov. However, I do see why these Chicago fans such as <a href="/users/Wadejos123" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Wadejos123</a> value him.

Benning won't have a choice, but to trade Virtanen for a low return if (when) he needs cap space...

Trying to figure out the palmieri deal
I really think that it is a bad idea to sell Gaudreau. This is completely contradicting the idea of buy low, sell high. His value is at an all-time low. As someone from Regina, I love Eberle, but in a normal year, his value would not be higher than Gaudreau's like it is this year. Lamoriello seems like a guy who plays it extremely safe and right now, Eberle is the safer bet. I personally feel like Calgary can get a better return than this either now or after waiting a few months. Can Gaudreau's value really get any lower than this? He has one year left. I personally would keep him until late next year. It's a risk, but whatever lol.

Just Throwing these - GETTING BIGGER TRADES - out there for some Feedback
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sidstick87</b></div><div>I was going to make Oleksiak for a 4th Rdr since we already traded him back and forth for that, lol</div></div>
People who know me know two things: my dislike for Rutherford the last few years and how mad I was that he traded Oleksiak back to Dallas for just a 4th. I know that he was traded for a 4th before this, but I mean, surely, there could have been a trade partner somewhere else that would have given more. Even if it was out of goodwill, he could have pretended like he got another offer first and it was too late to return Oleksiak back to Dallas lol. Or even better, keep him and force Sullivan to play him more! I loved his gameplay. And now, he'll likely be traded for quite a bit more than a 4th.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChampEddy</b></div><div>Pens aren`t gonna be interested in moving him at all.
Funny because there were a lot of people at the time that HATED this signing because there were some charts that said it was bad. Then they actually watch him play and say oh wow he brings a lot to the table. Same thing happened this year with Ceci.</div></div>
I personally just wish that he came at a cheaper price tag, even say 2.5-3 million. GMJR just has this obsession with signing players to contracts with absurd cap hits and length. I liked everything about the signing other than the cap hit lol. You would think that a longer-term contract would garner a lower salary, but nope. Just looks at that ridiculous Hornqvist contract or oh God, Jack Johnson...

Adding Depth and Grit
Vancouver wants to create cap space to sign their free agents soon and Pittsburgh wants a better return for Pettersson. This trade as been proposed a few times before at the outrage of fans from both sides. As for the last two trades, I doubt that Hextall wants to make big moves like that. Crosby would be against Malkin leaving. He vetoed it once, he'll likely veto it again.

This is why I think that a Zadorov for Pettersson trade would make sense. Zadorov has excellent xGA/60 stats (one of the best in the league, third I think while paired with Murphy) and even though he is God awfully slow, he could stay back as a big body and defend in order to let Marino do his thing.

Playoffs With No Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chigurrhh</b></div><div>Yeah, that's probably what it should look like for the forwards.
Probably should keep Marino with Pettersson and Ceci with Matheson though. Ceci and Matheson are statistically one of the best pairings in the league this year (no idea why it's working) and Marino with Matheson was an absolute disaster.
This lineup looks a lot better if they could add a 2nd line LW or a third line C.</div></div>
I agree. I think that a third-line center would bring the team up a notch. And at first, I was against the idea of getting Zadorov from Chicago, but after looking at his avg goals against per 60 min compared to Pettersson, I think the trade could be beneficial.
