Offseason ReTool

Heh, good to meet another veteran flames fan who's seen this dance one too many times :P
Our little win streak recently was right on queue for this team...I imagine we'll lose a few here and there then run the table on Vancouver to really cement our position in the middle of the pack for draft day...

Offseason ReTool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Duggysdanglers</b></div><div>Should they chase Jack Eichel if they end up picking really high?</div></div>
I think so? Eichel is one of those players that a GM would be obligated to chase if there was a chance.
Unless next season is a total bounce-back season I think we're at the end of the JG/SM/MG era. Tkachuk, Lindholm, Dube, Mangiapane, and Andersson are the new core.

Given the choice? I would wager they take Backlund.
There's cheaper options to fill the roll that Tanev fills.
Of course I would <em>prefer </em>them to take Tanev...

(CBJ/WPG) - Dubois and 3rd for Laine, Roslovic
This is a baffling trade for the Jets to make.
I cannot understand trading a scorer of Laine's caliber for someone like Dubois AND throwing in a young, talented prospect...

Flames final lines
Interesting lines. A shake-up certainly wouldn't hurt.
I don't see Leivo rising above Mangiapane though, the "bread man" is easily the better player of the two; definitely did enough "last season" to start the season in the top 6 this year.

What is the incentive for the Flames take on <em>more</em> salary <em>and</em> retain on Lucic.
Especially considering we have only enough cap space to sign our last RFA.

Shaking it up without a trade
If you really want to get wild, you could go:
Gaudreau-Backlund-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Bennett-Lindholm
Dube-Monahan-Leivo
Lucic-Ryan-Simon
Really bust out that blender...

Calgary Flames Drafted Players Only
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sedin33</b></div><div>They have retained quite a few of their picks. Drafting goalies is not a strength</div></div>
Yep, not thrilling at all.
When you look back on players we did pick vs. the goalies that were available at the time it's a little sad...
We might also have a development problem there as well...

Calgary Flames
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Why would Calgary ever consider that?</div></div>
I mean it effectively fills out the roster with NHL experience and leaves us with a serviceable cap buffer.
Then with all these players on 1-year deals we retain flexibility for next season around potentially signing Bennett, Dube, and Valimaki.
Plus, I'm already amused that we're slowly collecting Swedish players, whats a few more? :P

wanna hear your thoughts flames fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SmugTkachuk</b></div><div>I think that Weegar would be a great addition and I think Kylington is a great piece to move out. Perry won't sign for that contract and Bennett should be playing down the middle. It's going to be tougher than we think to move Ryan because look at the Nordstrom signing, teams can have quality guys for 700K this year. If I was given this roster I would look at the lines being
13-23-28
19-11-88
29-93-17
JN-GG-Leivo</div></div>
I mean if Weegar can play the right side this is a no-brainer. I wonder if Ryan wouldn't have to be involved in the Weegar trade for this to work? I'm starting to think that the last D-spot is going to get filled through trade given the options we have.
Seconded on Perry. Given our history I would imagine he'd die before signing with us :P

Treliving Works His Magic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Answer is because extension talks have broken off between MB and Gallagher's camp. The millions of morons out in the world automatically assume this means that Gallagher is on the market. Media m9r9ns suggest it so that they can get more readers. Other teams fans think it must mean Gallagher is unhappy and wants out of Montreal. Montreal fans think it must mean he is either being greedy or MB is severely lowballing him. The truth of the matter is probably some combination of MB trying to get the best possible deal for the team and Gally's group try I g to get the best possible deal for him. I assume MB would like a 5 year deal at around 6 Mil and Gally's side wants a 7 or 8 year deal closer to 7 Mil. A deal will be hashed out most likely as these things usually do get resolved. I just hope MB doesn't try and strongarm Gally like he did with Markov and Radulov cause that one worked out so well also.</div></div>
Ah, thank you.
Always love the fan perspective of you must <em>never</em> let a player go for nothing at <em>any</em> time.
As a fan who just watch Brodie sign with someone else, it is not fun but it is a reality of this game. Though it is not like there isn't going to be another time to re-sign Gallagher...

Not to mention that he's on a very affordable contract for another 4 years.
Maybe they make a deal like this if they were in rebuild mode, but we're a ways off from that at this time.

I find it quite funny that certain flames fans still haven't forgiven JG for that one interview he did that one time.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the Flames do not <em>need </em> to make a trade...there is potential for a shake up but the other team really needs to <em>sell us</em> on the deal. This one, frankly <em>any</em> I've seen from Philly, does not at all impress me.

Flames Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingsLover</b></div><div>I mean I guess if they sign Petro it makes sense?</div></div>
Well, there's 0% chance we actually sign him. LeBrun was speculating possible landing spots but I have no doubt that BT is going to avoid committing 8.5/9 mil for 7 years, only gaining 2-3 years of performance for 4-ish years of a boat-anchor contract. We are not in a "win now" window by any means.
Plus we <em>just </em> extended Andersson and he's our only RHD under contract.

Agreed. I think we're looking at if the shake-up needs to/does happen there's a trade there with Minny that makes sense for both teams. For me EL's contract is a big reason why I wouldn't move him and a line of JG-EL-TH would be incredible.
Also, the Flames are not in a position where they <em>have</em> to trade anybody, so teams really do need to sell us on the deal otherwise we're happy keeping SM and finding a different solution to our D lineup.
And yeah, the 1st is a little pricey...happy if it was just Kunin myself but others don't feel that it's enough (Dumba+Kunin). So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Flames with Hall No Major Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>I would not do that, zero right handed wingers was already a problem this year. Can't have it happen again. IMO Bennett as earned just as much of a top 6 chance as Dube. Maybe more. I also prefer the option of having someone who can take right handed face offs on the first line. Like Giroux, Benn, Marchessault, Schmaltz, Wheeler
In my scenario we also bring in a Coach like Gallant who can re-insert a Rush System into the first line like we had for most of last year</div></div>
I like the reasoning here; honestly, this would be my ideal scenario. Hall aside, I think this is more or less the kind of off season we can expect unless BT really blows it up.
Was wondering about the call to keep Bennett and trade Ryan? Not criticizing it, just kinda curious. Ryan is a natural centre and seems to have a very big stabilizing influence on the bottom 6.

Yeah, despite all the "rumours" I imagine it's going to be a very quiet off-season for the flames.

Seeing if Hall can work without a cap increase
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AJC13</b></div><div>It's hard to assess Bennett's trade value when he's a 4th line center for the style of play during the regular season, but a 1st or 2nd line center when the style of play switches to playoff hockey.
Rangers might ask for a 3rd round pick or a prospect or player with the trade value of a 3rd round pick. Personally I love Bennett and would probably make the trade, but I'd first ask for a 3rd round pick or it's equivalent player or prospect.</div></div>
I think that's 100% fair. If this kind of trade were to happen it would certainly need finessing considering the body of work for Georgiev is relatively small and Bennett is a bit of an enigma.

I don't think he's worth double digits, but some idiot GM out there is going to do it. I was thinking about that; we did look a little thin without those guys but it could work.
