After the dust
Your defense is probably going to be lacking to make a true playoff run.
I think you got what you could get.
The Lindholm deal looks like a net positive especially if you can rebuild Kuzmenko’s value.
The Tanev deal was about what you could expect. A prospect you like plus a 2nd
The Hanifin deal became a pure rental cost because he was leveraging his want. As soon as Boston shifted to acquiring Lindholm, I think the return was kind of inevitable.
At what point do you think Poirier will be ready to come up?

Just seeing if it can work
I feel like the only way we are getting back to the best line in hockey is by getting at least two successful drafts. We lucked out with Gaudreau, and had to pick in the top 10 3 times before we landed Tkachuk.

Just trying something out
I get that you were just looking to see the Cap Space, but I still want to say we’ll get more for all of those players, other than maybe Backlund unless we retain some salary
But like <a href="/users/southwest09" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@southwest09</a> said perfectly, we only need a couple tweaks. We are in no way entering a rebuild, so as much as 1st Round Picks are nice, we need Quality Replacement Players and, either already or soon to be. NHL Ready Prospects in addition to Picks to stay competitive

Cheap Low Risk Acquisition Options
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Treize131</b></div><div>Drouin is an interesting option for sure. It'd all come down to cost but I really think it's worth entertaining it because he's theoretically the exact kind of winger we are missing at the moment. Now I say theoretically because how many years have various teams been waiting for him to be what they think he can be.</div></div>
Drouin’s shown flashes. My thought pattern is that a Left Shot Playmaker for Lindholm & Toffoli would be nice (Dube & Ruzicka have done well but are still young and Huberdeau didn’t work that great) and that Drouin being Huberdeau’s friend and Dadonov being his former winger, it would help all 3 and maybe even Jakob Pelletier as well.
If Drouin &/or Dadonov do well and like CGY, maybe they sign Team Friendly extensions to continue building back their game and value, although Dadonov’s definitely on the older side for a forward

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Treize131</b></div><div>Just curious what the ask is for Dumba these days. It isn't exactly a solid season for him this year.</div></div>
I mean, he currently ranks in the 95th percentile in defense for all defenders league wide this year. So yeah, his offense hasn't been great, but he's actually been pretty good defensively speaking this year.
If he comes fully retained, he's absolutely worth a 1st.

This year and the next, we're so close to the cap that moves just aren't easy and things really open up in 24/25 where we have lots of cap space and some veterans to build around.</div></div>
Yeah we don't have a lot of room to maneuver without letting go of a good roster player and most of them have trade clauses.

That one Habs guy will go the grave screaming and shaking about how "It should've been a first and Pelletier!". Solid trade for the Flames.

They have been reported multiple times to be working on an extension right now, Gaudreau is not being moved in a retool, he was definitely part of the solution last year.
How many prospects from the 2022 draft do you actually know outside the top like 5. The top end of the draft is very strong that doesnt mean the rest is

Tkachuk is playing on the right wing currently, Edmonton didn't really improve, their defense is awful. Most of the prospects you named will be on either 2-way contracts or in the sub 1M deals. Calgary literally just traded for a backup goalie and according to Boston fans he is NHL ready but would have been claimed off waivers since they have Ullmark and Swayman.
At this point you are trying to justify why you want Calgary to trade the #1 player on their team to you, no thank you. We will keep him and resign him for 7-8M like the market puts him at. Flames definitely will have the money to sign all 3, look at Tampa, there are so many ways to move cap. Hell Lucic could just retire after his final signing bonus, if not he has a M-NTC and can be moved for cheap. Zadorov is probably only getting a 1 year deal.

Pelletier is closer and an all-situations skill/2-way winger, we won’t need a skilled centre as much with Eichel/Lindholm for several years (and he’d also be more appealing as a trade asset). Similarly, I’d rather lose Dube than Valimaki, we can replace him on the wing with Pelletier, but it’s harder to immediately replace Valimaki, and Buffalo already has Power and Dahlin on the left side. I keep coming back to Monahan+Dube+Zary+2022 1st as the deal that makes the most sense, maybe with another asset thrown in (extra pick like a 3rd or B/C prospect like Zavgorodny or something).</div></div>
Agreed, I think Buffalo would have more interest in Zary and Dube too. Dube provides them with a fast energy guy who's still young, a proven team leader, and plenty of team control still, Valimaki while also having that team control is pretty redundant with their most recent draft selection. Pelletier is probably not needed as much for them as a near NHL ready replacement center in Zary

I mean love sean Monahan but fair or not wild gm has zero interest in Sean Monahan
Also right now, dumba is very much like Marcus foligno, Ryan Hartman to wild gm bill Guerin. In dumba's own words:
"Bill told me he wants me back,,and was going to do everything possible to make sure he stays a wild. " after season ending meeting
So in essence, dumba isn't available

Offseason ReTool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Duggysdanglers</b></div><div>What do they target at the Draft?
Should they try and trade for Eichel?
Should they try and swing a deal where Seattle takes someone other than Giordano?</div></div>
Because I am a self loathing Flames fan I think they will draft about 12 - 15 because they will go on a run and barely miss the playoffs, pick like that you take the best player available, if Raty falls to that spot, I would love that pick, if Sillinger is there then I think that's good too. If the best player available is a d man then you have to take him and just work with it. Target wise I think you need to look at a center or a right shot high ceiling winger, as opposed to a high floor, take a chance that he becomes a star as opposed to sure thing middle - bottom 6 guy.
Personally I don't think so, the Flames would have to give up so many more pieces than a lot of teams because they don't have the high end prospects or high end talent Buffalo would be looking for. It would become a quantity trade.
Absolutely not, Giordano should be the pick in every mock up of the team, I would even add a pick to get rid of him for one year. The Flames getting 6.75 in cap space along with a true shift of leadership to the younger core is exactly what I think the team needs. At this point I would hope they take Giordano over Lucic just because Lucic is a good supplementary piece that if fine playing in the bottom six instead of asking your captain to play on the bottom pairing.

I think that Weegar would be a great addition and I think Kylington is a great piece to move out. Perry won't sign for that contract and Bennett should be playing down the middle. It's going to be tougher than we think to move Ryan because look at the Nordstrom signing, teams can have quality guys for 700K this year. If I was given this roster I would look at the lines being

<strong>Why are there so many trades with him these days?</strong></div></div>
Answer is because extension talks have broken off between MB and Gallagher's camp. The millions of morons out in the world automatically assume this means that Gallagher is on the market. Media m9r9ns suggest it so that they can get more readers. Other teams fans think it must mean Gallagher is unhappy and wants out of Montreal. Montreal fans think it must mean he is either being greedy or MB is severely lowballing him. The truth of the matter is probably some combination of MB trying to get the best possible deal for the team and Gally's group try I g to get the best possible deal for him. I assume MB would like a 5 year deal at around 6 Mil and Gally's side wants a 7 or 8 year deal closer to 7 Mil. A deal will be hashed out most likely as these things usually do get resolved. I just hope MB doesn't try and strongarm Gally like he did with Markov and Radulov cause that one worked out so well also.

Yeah he's a 1st line player, so that's where you are wrong, he can also play rw/lw/c which makes him versatile. Rather have hanifan then DeAngelo, rather have Lindholm then all the other stuff combined. Not giving up the pick. This is a no go from Calgary, they downgrade everywhere
