(CGY/CHI) - 2020 3rd round pick for Gustafsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AwesomeMatthews</b></div><div>Steal of the deadline?</div></div>
It's relatively cheap cost for what he brings to the table; this one has me actually a little excited.
He's coming into this team with 26 pts which puts him 1 back of Gio for most points by a d-man on this team (we've not had much offense from that group this year).

And a conditional pick (if Toffoli resigns).
Good year to be a seller.

PS, we'd be interested in Kovy too

Trying to Catagorize Flames Players Going Into Deadline
I'm just curious about Monahan and Gaudreau.
Who do folks envision receiving or what kinds of trades might they be involved in that would improve the role that each player has on the team?
Are we talking about combining them to work to get an Eichel type player?

Well I think elements could come out of this trade but players keep moving past both Janko and Bennett in the depth chart.
A change couldn't hurt either of them and we might as well make the move while they still have trade value. I mean, how long should we wait?
Don't want another Lazar situation...

And...our core is pretty young, it's not like this was the last possible year we're going to have a crack at the playoffs.
Also, Gio's on this team too; IE, he's not having the greatest season either. The entire Pacific Division is playing some wildly inconsistent hockey this year.

Two trades your thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>masterjuddi</b></div><div>Has Bennett just completely fallen off in Calgary? What's his deal? He was so promising coming out of junior</div></div>
There were some early injuries that I think delayed him a bit and by the time he was healthy there were other players who'd moved past him in the depth chart.
He never seemed to get any momentum going in terms of chemistry with other players; so he's kinda bounced around our lines, which doesn't help the chemistry building.
He's still young and still has a lot of upside, which is why Tre's been hesitant to move him (I would imagine), but at this point a change of scenery would probably help him a lot. Same goes for Janko.

His numbers just don't justify a 10+ mil/year salary. I could see between 8 or 9?
Definitely think they'll be talking though. We made Jersey think twice with an offer. Plus, Hall had no trade protection, who knows what would've happened if he did.

Might not be Kovy; very likely not Kovy. (I've just been a fan for a while and it's a minor pipe-dream)
But I'm thinking about the fact that we almost landed Hall with some kind of "hockey" deal.
I wonder if that package got put together specifically because Hall was available...or it's something they're putting out there to get a high end winger...

TOR-CGY Blockbuster and PIT Trade
As a Flames fan I can get on board with this one, for sure.
I do like Hamonic and I'm a little weary of what Barrie's been rumored to be asking for in terms of his next contract but overall this feels like a solid change of scenery trade for everyone involved.
Retaining salary is a little tricky for us since our cap situation isn't much better but we may be sellers this year anyway so who knows.

Frolik Puljujarvi vs cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>CGY declines as we are not paying to trade Frolik for a scratch</div></div>
Going to have to respectfully disagree.
Other GMs know that we're in this situation so Tre does not have much to bargain with at this time. A deal like this is what we can expect and it's also what we might end up needing depending on how long it takes for Valimaki to get back up to speed. Recovery is one thing but players that miss large chunks of time from the season often don't really get back to 100% until the following season. Reilly is a serviceable defenseman with a low cap hit that can perhaps push Kylington and whoever else they bring on via PTO.

Seems reasonable. Personally, I'd rather not give up Mangiapane if I didn't have too.
One question, why trade for Risto and Hagg?
Also, Buffalo fans (or anyone really), what's the backstory on Ristolainen? A lot of ACGMs involving Buffalo have him moving...

Drouin is someone I've felt for a while could be a good fit for that position.
That would likely be a trade that Brodie would be a part of, along with some other pieces of course.

Not <em>at all</em> serious about this, I was just curious what the consensus was since I've seen him play a lot when he was with the Avs/Blues and always thought he was a solid player.
Seems like things are going downhill though and I'd much rather have ice time for the younger guys.
If he was still as good as I've seen him in the past, I'd want the Flames to jump on this opportunity.
Thanks for the inside scoop everyone!

Flames Opening Night
I definitely see what you're going for here.
Brodie and Frolik are 98% on their way out soon as Tre finds the right deal. I'm less and less convinced that Hamonic is on the block. I think they might have been considering it to see what the market is but at the end of the day we'd need to resign or trade for a guy like him anyway. Brodie and Frolik would give us the space to sign the remaining RFAs, Andersson/Valimaki/Kylington are ready to step up, and Stone can be the 6/7th guy and play out the last year of this contract if a buyout isn't feasible or a trade doesn't work out.

We have to trade a few people. We have no room.
I'm going by numbers relative to what other similar players have signed and then scaled accordingly. We are going to have to pay more than the salaries I've been seeing here; this is me calling it.

Yeesh, that's tight.
In some ways I'm not against the pieces we're getting (Lucic does offer a bit more grit that we could've used, always been a Russell fan, N-H is solid, ceiling is high on Puljujarvi) but I'm not thrilled at the contract lengths we're taking on.
Where's the rumor coming from?

Certainly understand the appeal a lot more now.
I think I'm also looking at his salary a little differently now. With prices going up, the Hayes contract for instance, might not be too bad to have him at that AAV for 4 years.

Can someone explain the interest in Zucker?
I'm really not familiar with the Wild so I can only really look at his numbers and as far as term, AAV, and point production goes I don't really understand why him ending up on the Flames is almost a given (at least as far as this site is concerned).
Definitely not trolling either, I legitimately don't understand.
