How's that been on Laine?</div></div>
Ummmmm....are we talking 5 years ago before Laine was even here?
Claiming that this CBJ team (or really any outside of maybe Laine's 1st year here) plays "physical tough playoff hockey" shows a complete lack of knowledge. Like, no disrespect....but just don't talk about things you clearly aren't educated on, because you're just making things up.

Likely off-season
I like a lot of the ideas here, but that Florida trade is never getting accepted. The only reason for Florida to move Knight imo is is they need the cap, but by taking back Elvis that's not happening here. And they're going from a young goalie who's shown flashes of elite upside to a 30 year old who hasn't been above average in 3 years. On top of picking up nearly 1 mil in cap. It just doesn't make any sense for Florida, and Boqvist doesn't make a difference.

Huge moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>And they could literally draft like Levshunov and Catton this year with the 2 picks. Who knows what Jiricek will be anyways</div></div>
All swapping Jiricek for Levshunov would theoretically do is set back the timeline though, This wouldn't make sense for Columbus given that a 1RD, which would be the hope for either player, is one of their biggest needs. They obviously aren't there yet, but if you're managing the team, you're probably looking at 25-26 as the goal to start seeing some form of on ice success, given the timeline of all their young players and prospects. Currently, Jiricek is more likely to be ready to fill that role at that point, has the higher floor, and arguably the higher upside.
Saying "Who knows what Jiricek will be anyways" also really makes no sense here considering we're talking about an 18 year old as the alternative.

Road to the Cup
Think this might be the first CBJ/TOR trade I've seen in weeks where the Leafs are the ones getting robbed.
There's a lot of spare parts, but the 1st alone is roughly equal to everything Columbus is sending back. But using a 1st to get a collection of mid/depth players isn't really the move either, value aside.

Likely 2nds? The condition on the 3rd -> 2nd is EDM making the final, so saying "likely" is definitely not true.
Either way, the picks being all the way out in 2026 significantly decreases their value and an okay prospect + Foegele + 2 late 2nds (best case) definitely doesn't get Columbus interested at all. Trying to dumb it down to Boone being "A guy who doesn't fit their timeline" is intellectually dishonest.

Why is it always CBJ for McDermott in these Avs ACGMs?
The blue line is full for the rest of the year, no reason for CBJ to give up even the smallest asset for him. Just put the trade to Anaheim (1st alphabetically) and add an "any team" comment or actually send him to a team that might make sense.

The move heard around the world
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I'd argue it doesn't cost quite one first to move Campbell's deal, since EDM buying him out is a legitimate option in the offseason (and certainly better than parting with 2 1sts). But it doesn't change the fact that it's a quick no.
There's absolutely zero chance, no scenario, where a team trades and retains on 6 years of a 7 year deal they just signed.</div></div>
Even worse, it's 7 of 8 cause they traded that 4th to get his rights.
Your point about Campbell is fair, but I think it's really only applicable to Edmonton's POV. Like, it only makes sense to trade so much to get out of him since they can also buy out. I'd argue the cost for another team to take it on willingly and either buy out themselves or let it run out is much higher and closer to the 2 1sts I said though, because they're willingly hamstringing themselves at that point, and the cost for that is much higher than the cost the team already in the situation will pay to get out, if that makes sense.

ummmm, no tf they don't?
2 of the 3 1sts put you at a net even for taking on Campbell's deal.
Bourgaut, the last 1, and Ceci maybe are about Jenner, but definitely not with retention
And then Severson, who they just signed for 8 years. Incredibly bad optics to make that trade, even if he's been disappointing. But that's DEFINITELY not getting retention. 7 more years of retention is insane.

Hmmmm, definitely some ideas I like here.
I kinda like Rust for Laine in a vacuum (assuming Laine is out of the PAP this summer), but with the retention and 4 more years for a 31 year old Rust I'm not too sure. If he had less contract I'd like it a lot more. Would be concerned about him being a cap liability down the line once the team is (hopefully) good, where Laine only has 2 more years after this on that big contract, which I'd like to just wait out at this point.
Definitely low on some of the RFAs, specifically Marchenko. I'd expect them to try and get a longer term deal if possible, bit Chinakov is probably too low as well. KJ is probably fine since it's just a 1 year deal, makes sense given his performance this year.
I definitely can't see the Grubrandson deal happening though. Tampa is tight on the cap, definitely can't afford to pay a 3rd pair D man 4 million. I think he could actually be valuable there in their system, kinda like how Bogo really stepped up while there. The money just doesn't work though.

Just throwing something out there
I've been a MASSIVE Anders Lee fan for years, but he's 33 and doesn't fit the Jackets' timeline at all. I have a hard time seeing New York trade Mayfield either in the first year of a 7 year extension just bad optics for a team to do that. And that assuming that he or Johnny don't nix it to begin with. Honestly there's just nothing about this that makes sense, besides NYI trying to move on from Lee and get something.

3 problems w the CBJ trade
1 smaller thing, I can't imagine Columbus would want to "waste" a retention spot for 3 years on only 750k. Would most likely be no retention (cause he's already on a great deal) or a real amount of retention and more compensation coming back.
2. Jarnkrok very likely nixes the deal (Would bet Columbus is on the 10 team no trade list)
3. JENNER ISN'T BEING TRADED (smile)
