Realistic Leafs Offseason
"Realistic"
Proceeds to move Johnsson for Savard as if CBJ would be interested in a 3rd liner for him after just moving 2 D men today.

Sorry but I’m looking for a little bit more from a Dman than “he gets hit with a lot of pucks”.
No he’s not worth more than I think. He’s worth less than you know.</div></div>
It's pretty interesting that 50% of Toronto teams on here have some variation of a Savard for Johnsson trade then 🤔

Because he can't be LTIR'd until the season begins so him 5.85 will count against the cap unless they move him

Honestly, I'm not too sure. I feel like most fans would be pissed if they moved him for a 2nd, though I'd be pretty happy with that. I feel like he's more of a sit and wait thing here. They'd probably find a way to get him on the ice. I just didn't care enough to make more trades in this.

Yeah, I wanted to move Nash or something, but didn't really care much to put together the trades to make space.

7 years of Anderson in his prime along side Suzuki
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bigshame</b></div><div>You could be right about him not wanting out. They were having trouble signing him to his last contract tho no? It’s funny tho you lose a piece like that to fill a hole at centre and than end up need a player just like him the next couple year. Eg mtl-pacioretty
They got the pieces they wanted and needed but now needed a scoring winger with size and speed lol.</div></div>
The word a few weeks ago was that he wanted to stay in Columbus on a long term deal, but the team wanted shorter term. He also was very complimentary of both the team culture and Tortorella yesterday. Could have just been going through the motions, but it seems like he would've been more than happy to stay if they offered him the term he wanted.
Also, the hiccup a few years ago was about him wanting more than the team was offering. Seems like it was just one of those where the 2 parties have different ideas of what the player is worth and it takes a bit longer to figure out. I could be wrong though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bigshame</b></div><div>Ya Clb got a good player at a decent aav and a pick. Good deal for them too. They needed a centre and Anderson clearly wanted out</div></div>
It wasn't as much Anderson wanting out as it was the fit. He wanted a long term deal, but the team wanted to be more flexible since basically the entire young core will get big raises in the next couple years. They were definitely looking for the kind of deal the signed Domi to, but Anderson wanted term. It just wasn't a good fit with Columbus's upcoming cap situation unfortunately. I would've loved to keep him.

I agrees on the assignment. I've got some bias since Anderson is my favorite player, but it's amazing how quick people turned on him. He nearly scored 30 goals a season ago while playing the majority of his minutes with Foligno, Jenner, and Calvert. Now all anyone wants to say is "fOuR pOiNtS". I could definitely see it fizziling out in the final year or 2, but it's gonna be an absolute steal of a contract for the first few. I wouldn't be shocked to see 100 goals in the first 3 years out of him. I'm kinda upset we didn't sign this, but I understand we've got bigger fish to fry with Jones, Werenski, Bjorkstrand, and basically the entire core due up soon. Didn't really have the space to pay Anderson this much and keep most of the young core. I hope he kills it in Montreal for 79 games a year 😉

Interesting
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigOaf69</b></div><div>unfortunate that they couldn't get a long-term deal, however it makes a Hab fan feel better assuming Anderson is locked up reasonably
not sure if it's on Domi not liking CBJ's outlook (no reason not to) or what</div></div>
I think this was more a preference of Columbus than anything. If you look ahead, Foudy, Jones, Werenski, Korpi, and Elvis all are due up in 2 years as well. Also factor in Bjorkstand, Texier, and the forthcoming PLD and Gavrikov extensions and that's basically the entire core that will need to be resigned/extended by the 2022 offseason. Based on what they did today, it seems like they see Domi as a 2 year rental until they have to pay for these core players. The plan is likely for Foudy to be the 2C of the future once Domi's contract is up, if not earlier. I disliked the trade at first cause I thought it was gonna cripple the team with future signings, but I really like the term here.

Would love this scenario. Don't really see this as realistic (since ALL of these rumors wouldn't likely materialize), but I really like how the team is set up with what you did.

Post Domi Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SDSUFRATMAN</b></div><div>Great explanations and thoughts! I personally see nothing wrong with these signings and realistic in my eyes. I also don't think Domi will get that high either and I think he will come out 5.25-5.75X5 is my guess. As for Dubois I think he will also most likely to get a bridge deal especially because of all the financial difficulties nowadays. So not bad in my opinion for him.
As a leaf fan would you guys do Johnsson and a 3rd for Savard though?</div></div>
Honestly, I don't think that's something that would fit with this team right now. They don't really have an guy to comfortably slot into that 2nd pair RHD spot if they moved him and Savard is one of the bigger guys in the locker room. I think a trade of Murray or Nuti is much more realistic, regardless of trade partner. I feel like the only way Savard really gets moved is as a piece for a big deal like Laine (though I don't see anything like that happening). I can say for certain though that if Savard was moved to Toronto, Columbus would not be retaining any salary (like a lot of ACGMs have them doing in a move to Toronto).

anderson contract
If he's 100% this is a steal of a contract. I'd expect at least a few 30 goal seasons. Great PKer and was really improving his playmaker before getting hurt as well. I sure hope he's completely recovered cause if he is, he's one hell of a player.

Anderson played like 25% of his minutes with Panarin in 18-19. You guys really gotta stop spreading this false narrative.

Columbus....the team that desperately needs a top 6 center, trades their 1C for a D man that would play 3rd pairing minutes for them and a mid 1st rounder. Makes sense.
