Because the draft position likely changes with every significant swap out year to year.

Barzal is better than Eichel IMO.
I see no way that the Isles would ever consider this. Especially attaching a 1st round pick to it.

This would be absolutely horrible optics for potential future Euro-Free Agents.
It would never happen.

Helping D
I don't think we should be in the business of selling off 1st round picks to fill a roll that Dermott currently fills. I don't care how good he is. This is an unnecessary trade.

creating cap space
Congratulations. You've just traded a goal scoring franchise centre in his early 20's for cap space, and proceeded to do absolutely nothing with it.
I suppose you could hope to maybe draft a franchise centre with the first pick that you've acquired who may be ready in four or five years when the team's window has closed completely.
Dumb! 100% dumb!

Suzuki and a 1st gets it done. Guaranteed!
I'm just not sure that the Habs are willing to do that. (Nor should they).
If this is truly the guy that you want though... the price will be a lot more than what you have here. Of that, I am certain.

My ideal lines
You are well over a month away from seeing anything like this given the injuries to Robertson and Thornton.
Even with that being said, I don't think that it is very likely that you see a makeup like this. The organization sees things differently, even if their view is misguided and wrong.
I would have no problem giving it a try. Why not? They have not exactly looked very competitive thus far with the lineups they've been throwing out there.
I am starting to think more and more that this is just the wrong make up of players for ultimate success. The cheerleaders will say otherwise but, the proof is plain to see.

If that is the offer from Montreal.... It is simply not enough. CBJ can do better elsewhere.

Kerfoot for Bennett
Bennett has more value to the Flames than Kerfoot does. (And for less money).

The Oilers would be foolish not to put a claim on him TBH.
Easy fix for a capable back up at minimal salary and no loss of assets.
Book it, actually!

He won't report to Buffalo. That is my guess anyways.
My read on Spezza is its Leafs or nothing for him at this stage of his career and family life.

The Edmonton Oilers
That is an overpay by the Oilers.
Even if they could really use another starter, that is FAR too much youth and promise to give up for that package.
It is an easy NO from Edmonton. (Very one-sided in favour of Toronto I'm afraid.)

I have no problem pissing on anyone who puts up a sub .890 save percentage. Regardless of what he has done in the past or the team in front of him.
Sometimes, you just need a save or two.
The shoe fits here.

I would be so okay with these lines in so many ways.
I doubt we see this though.
Apparently, promises that were made to aging vets take priority over winning at present.

Solving the Oilers goalie injuries trouble
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zmach</b></div><div>The oilers would probably be interested in Hutchinson TBH. Mike smith will be back it will just be a month.</div></div>
The only problem is... The Leafs want to keep Hutchinson in the organization because he fills the criteria for the expansion draft. That box is now checked at minimal salary.
Lets just face it... The Leafs and the Oilers are just not good trading partners when it comes to goalies. Unless Edmonton wants something lower down the pecking order. I doubt very much that they do.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>shmoeman</b></div><div>you see what he did in the playoffs? hes as good of a 3 as you can probably get</div></div>
No, he isn't. He is actually terrible.
He was propped up by a far superior Colorado team and still **** the bed. He is not an NHL goalie.
Point being, Dell is a far better option for the Leafs. They won't move him and risk Hutchinson as the #3. No chance.

Nope. Can't do it.
Not to say that the trade is not fair. (It is fine value). It is just that the Leafs cannot have Hutchinson as a #3. No way!
Easy pass from a Toronto perspective for that reason alone.
