Yeah there's lots I miss about this team from past years and soooo many of the guys I enjoyed watching are gone and some boring dead weight are still wearing Jets jerseys.. 👎..honestly outside of a Ehlers, Connor and a few others there isn't much worth watching on this team.
Really gotta wonder what went down in 18-19, they imploded that season and its just been one fire after another ever since.

Would be nice, unfortunately I don't see it happening anytime soon (definitely not before his contract is up). If we could trade him, I'd be on board with that option (even if we had to eat a mil or two of salary).
Also, I would not even consider giving Copp as much as 6 million and I can't see Forsberg considering signing with us. RFA contracts are good though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>The Jets would be better off just keeping Wheeler instead of making this trade.</div></div>
Huh? I’m sorry but what?
Trade is very very good for Winnipeg lol. They get 2 players with reduced cap hits, that are serviceable players that could be flipped to other teams who need players like them.
Getting wheelers 8.25 million off the books would be ideal. We save 2 million immediately and could flip the two players to save the full 8.25. This is a no brainer trade for the jets. Much easier to get rid of Labanc and Simek than wheeler.
Jets management nixes the trade though as they’re loyal to wheeler. Plus I’m not sure wheeler will be playing hockey for much longer. Way too many injuries piling up, and he majorly regrets playing through injury.

For immediate on ice value, you would think the Jets are better with Dubois instead of 9.9m in Dvorak and Andersen

CapFriendly shows Schneider (same with Parise, Chara, Dal Colle) with the Islanders but no dollar amount though it's likely league minimum so I guess the Jets could claim him but he's been in that region for a long time, wonder if he'd even report to the Jets if they claimed him, he might just retire, also not sure if he's much of an upgrade at this point.
Wonder if Dell would've been worth claiming?
I'm fine with Comrie getting a chance and seeing what Berdin can do as well.
I've gone through the opposition lineups/rosters and the only goalies that I could see that would be available and clear upgrades were Greiss and Rittich, not sure what either would cost to acquire and how their cap hits could be fit, will be interesting to see how the goaltending situation shakes out for the as the season goes on.

Haha.. how sadly true that is though Staal and Zajac would be way better then past depth veteran signings the Jets have made.
Do think we'll regularly see Vesalainen at least this year, not sure about Harkins even though Maurice speaks well of him, not sure who has more of the inside track for the 4th line winger role between Harkins, Toninato and Svechnikov, wonder where Gustafsson fits as well.

Out of training camp
Bro, you put a lot of thought into this. My 2 cents would be to consider the playing styles of the forwards and try to optimize skillsets that could work well together I like a Stastny, Dubois, Ehlers trio for my first look. Dubois is a powerful dude who can go to the net and cause chaos, he is hard on the wall, skates extremely well and has a great shot release. This IMO would mesh well with the zone entry machine that is Nik Ehlers and the wicked smart Paul Stastny. I envision 27 swirling around the O zone playing catch with 25 while 80 commands attention in front of the net. I realize this leaves us with 81, 55 and 26 as a Line 1B but I also see the Jets concentrating on deploying more of a 5 man unit which should cover up some of the defensive deficiencies.
I'm not convinced Ves is the best option on the 3rd line as the players that have succeeded in that slot have been burners that fore check deep and hard (Tanev and Appleton). KV is not that! Lowry is fast but not quick and Copp is average all around. I'm hopeful for Svechnikov but would rather see a Harkins get a shot here. Vesalainen and Gustafsson showed some great chemistry with the Moose previously!
As for D pairs i agree they gotta go Pionk and Dillon as the top pair with Morrisey and Demelo followed by Schmidt and Stanley. Nate will get his minutes on the power play and you can shorten the bench in tighter games. He struggled last year in Van and I think he needs to prove that was an anomaly first! I believe he can return to his all star Vegas form but...
Go Jets go!

I like your read on things, my only thought might be a stasny Gus Wheeler 3rd line minutes and copp with Dubois and vaselainen as 2nd and your first, with a checking line of harkins Lowry nash. Wheeler stasny get most of there minutes on pp. I like the depth and hunger for a solid year.

Unfortunately, I can see this happening as well. I think Harkins and Ves will be up full time but Gustafsson will be the odd man out...even though I think he would be great in the 4C role.

Yeah I share the same sentiments, his defensive game is severely underdeveloped and is becoming a real problem. He’s an elite offensive C, but a below average defensive C.

Yeah the cap looks good. This is also assuming Dubois regains form and earns that deal. Which could very well happen. I have an odd feeling a trade is brewing with samberg or heinola. Unless schmidt is being moved and or DeMelo, it’s unlikely they get in the lineup.

Copp was saying in his interview that the contract negotiations started at 4/5 years, but the moves shrunk the room, so some of speculation of him wanting out of town is false, or not near as large as speculated. Probably couple year run til there’s a large decision or two to be made.

It seems as though there is a definite tier for dmen.
Guys like Jones, Werenski, Hamilton, Nurse all got big time cash for term
Guys like Pionk and Pelech were clearly a tier below and teams were happy to get them at the cap hit they go

It would be cool to see tanev back from Seattle, but that cap hit definitely doesn’t fit, Blackwell would be interesting showed some good things in ny. Appleton looking for ice and blossoming good add by Seattle, not sure if he wants back for 3rd line minutes. Another one to look at would be geekie and Manitoba roots kind of similar to Blackwell in experience and contract

I wonder if it kind of coincides with Jets going younger, and changing a bunch of cap hits at that point, he may want to try and double dip also, and possibly go closer to home. Will be interesting two years before decision on scheifele and possibly Wheeler retirement.
