Goalies with great puck handling, puck moving, puck freezing, etc. skills naturally help the defense and forward with breakout and preventing dangerous chances. Goalies who stop the initial shot are again also good at enhancing players advanced stats. Granted advanced stats have minimal effect on goalies shoulders, they absolutely affect it, and it's a lot more underrated than people think. People think goalies have no control in shot quality, adjusted save percentage, expected save percentage, etc. They absolutely do. Goaltending positioning affecs adjusted and expected save percentage, initial shot quality doesn't have much to do with goalies, but secondary chances a lot of times do.</i></div></div> Brodeur, Rinne, Holtby, Bishop, etc. faced very little shots yes because they do have excellent defense, but also because they help their players out. Rinne this year however fell off a cliff in actually stopping the puck, especially secondary chances, despite his still excellent puck skills. On the other end of the spectrum goalies like Crawford, Halak, and Elliott make it more difficult for their team's defense with their play, however at least they play very well under secondary chances, especially Crawford. And then there's Pavelec who sucks at puck control and actually stopping the puck...

The two trades make no sense to Chicago and St Louis. Hawks would only benefit a few draft rounds, and the real danger is that MacArthur might come back and then be a cap player again. St Louis has a lot of Dmen and wouldn't be interested in taking on more cap especially at Methot's 4.9m a year</i></div></div> Not to sound arrogant, however bare extreme injuries or under achievement, there is absolutely no way the Senators fail to make the playoffs with that D, and upcoming prospects.

When I make Carolina trades I actually give them something they need and don't require that much. Smid isn't going to play at all, it's better we LTIR him, we won't get **** from him.

When you put Ladislav Smid on LTIR, trade Ultraman Gio, and Backlund, you have $21,176,600. If Gaudreau is signed with a $7,000,000 deal, and Kucherov is signed with a $6,250,000 deal, factor in Stralman and Namestnikov and we still have $1,489,100 left. In fact enough to give both of them more money.

LOL you're not going to come close to Gaudreau with that. You need to give up Forsberg minimum. Sure Forsberg is better defensively (It's actually close, not the difference between being number 10 in Selke voting, and not even receiving one vote), and he has better advanced stats. However, Gaudreau has better relative advanced stats despite far less offensive zone starts than Forsberg, while having more points, driving the offense, and more upside.

You aren't coming close to Draisaitl for that, even if Buffalo's pick is bottom 10. Stralman absolutely needs to come back for Draisaitl to work, and we don't know how well Stralman will do offensively without Hedman.
