Would you retain on Allen? I dont think hes worth 3.85M so without retention I think they would look elsewhere

Realistic giroux trade
Nobody knows whats going on in Giroux's head. I think its plausible that he just wants to stay in his hometown for the rest of his career, but its also plausible that he regrets choosing FLA over COL after watching COL win a cup and he may want another shot at it. When he signed in Ottawa they were an up and coming team expected to compete for the duration of his contract - now that we know they arent maybe he is thinking twice about going for another cup run elsewhere. Unless he has recently released a statement about staying in Ottawa then nobody can say for sure what he wants to do - and its all up to him with his NMC anyway
<em>If</em> Giroux wants to compete for a cup in his last couple years then I think this is a pretty fair offer, but it really depends on how many teams he would be willing to waive to. If he is willing to waive for a bunch of teams then it may take more than this, but if he is only willing to waive for COL then it probably would take less

My benchmark for a fair deal on Elias Lindholm is Bo Horvat
At the time of the Horvat trade he had 31G+23A=54P in 49GP
Lindholm currently has 9G+23A=32P in 49GP
If they pay the same price as what they got for Horvat then it's an overpay imo

Avs do have some untouchables imo
With how Lindholm is playing I don't even know if I would add Behrens on top of a 1st. He's on a 54 point pace with poor underlying numbers while being outscored by Sharangovich, Kadri, and Coleman, all of which have less TOI and all but Kadri have less PP TOI than Lindholm

Trading Holtz
Avs decline, they dont need any more wingers and if they move Byram they need to get a 2C back
Maybe something based around Byram and Mercer could work if the Avs think Mercer can be a full time C

Another try at 2G and 2C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LafayetteAvsFan</b></div><div>At this point, knowing (1) the Avs will have to get rid of Byram, Girard or Manson next summer to fit in Landy, (2) Malinski looks like a legit 2nd or 3rd pair D, and (3) Ritchie looking like the long-term 2C (I know it's just OHL, but he's finally healthy and DOMINATING) -- 11g 24a 35pts +21 in only 23 games -- I'll be shocked if he doesn't play with the Eagles and get some callups next year), I'd rather trade one of the D now.</div></div>
Fair points. But I think if you are substituting Byram in for Ritchie then COL should at least be getting the 50% retention on Nelson and probably another pick or prospect coming back as well

Another try at 2G and 2C
Nelson would be a great fit, I think they could get him without giving up Byram though. I made an Nelson trade AGM earlier this season which was well received by both Isles fans that commented - Nelson 50% retained for Ritchie + Beaucage + 2024 1st

Who told you that lol
Avs never get too attached to goalies, they let Varlamov, Grubauer, and Kuemper all walk in free agency and have shown they can find undervalued goalies via trade

I dont think Chabot would be a good fit in Toronto. Leafs have been there and done that twice with high profile offensive defensemen in Barrie and then Klingberg - both of which did not work out
If you are looking at Ottawa D men I think Chychrun would be a way better fit

As long as the Avs get a 2C and still have enough space to do this deal after then sure, a 3rd rounder for Brodie is a pretty good deal

No, Kovalenko's cap hit is under 900k which is almost entirely offset by sending down a depth guy like Polin/Malinski

Avs have nearly 4M in deadline cap space, they could afford this if the trade is made near the deadline

I know its Crosby but that is a ridiculous package. With 50% retention maybe you would get half of that if you trade him at the 2024 deadline

Thread:
Could a team win the Stanley Cup without making any trades ?
Im sure they could, any team good enough to make the playoffs can win if they get hot at the right time - Florida almost did it last year (Technically they traded for Givani Smith mid-season but he only played 5:25 in 1 playoff game and hardly had an impact). But why would a contending team not want to add at the deadline? I think if you have a shot at a cup then you should be buying at the deadline every single year. It doesnt have to be a huge trade to bring in the top rental, but every contender should at least give up some mid round picks to shore up their depth. Every year there are guys like Namestnikov, Cogliano, Domi, Bonino, Gustafsson, etc. available for a 4th round pick or less
