But what are they going to do with Lucic? Longer and worse contract than Alzner and we already have a surplus of LWs.

I mean any player is tradable for the right price but realistically speaking, Drouin isn't going anywhere. For some odd reason, Habs fan are already making it seem like hes a useless player... and then we wonder why our good players end up leaving... Drouin's fault is that he over complicates his game, that's all. Once he rids himself of that mentality he will be lethal for us

Is it time to trade him
I wouldn't trade him. He's a great player suffering from over-complicating his game. He's young, fits today's NHL very well and is still developing. Give it time! His faults are not his production (which is in line with his AVG) it's his turnovers/dumb entry plays.

Great Outcome
That's an offer Nylander would accept (and if he didn't he's an idiot). The trades aren't the greatest but my main concern is your money valuation of Matthews. Put yourself in his shoes. You're a young C putting up 40G and leading the way for one of the biggest franchises in hockey to make the playoffs. There is no way that this kid takes less than Tavares and If I were him, I would force more. His long term contract SHOULD be worth more than Tavares and less than McDavid. Somewhere in between

Lets make a run for it
Habs should NOT be looking at sacrificing future prospects right now. We've started off great and i'm sure we will continue this but that doesn't mean we need to start riding the trade deadline. Josh Brook looked fantatsic in our training camp (and I thought he would start the year). In addition, he's killing his junior league right now.
Also, how is Reilly scratched and Alzner in the lineup? I don't think you've been watching the games my friend..

The way i see it
For the most part I agree with your whole projection. In fact, it's really not a bad team, as long as players just play to their potential.
The only issue I see is that 3D pairing of Alzner and Scklemko.. We'd have to see how they play together.

We're weak on LD and RW so I don't think giving up Gallagher is wise at all.
Although C depth in the pipeline is always good, we have a lot right now so we can save some assets.

Last year Vegas had a lot of players play wayyyy above their standards. It made their run magical but I don't think it is sustainable.
Going into this season, Patches and Statsny, overall, is much better and more stable than Neal and Perron. Great for Vegas
A dark horse is Daniel Carr. Kid plays with heart and can be an effective 3rd/4th line winger.
If they manage to boost their D (considering Shmidt's suspension), I think they will have a really good chance to repeat last years performance

Moving Forward
People have to stop with the Plekanec trades. He will not be moved again. There's a reason why his contract is based on amount of games played. They're giving him a chance to play one more season and retire a Hab (which is awesome and very respectful as he's been out family)

Of course the LA one is better, but there is one issue... we will never know if that is true. That return is complete speculation and even though I'm a Habs fan, LA fans should be pissed if that''s what you could have potentially given up.
So can we let the Habs have their moment please? They got a good return for Max and Max finally has a chance to get away from the media in Montreal. It's a good move for all teams and all players!
Now, LET IT GO! pleaseeeeeeeeeee.

And Nylander sure as heck hasn't performed anywhere near Pastrnak ..... who got $6,666,666 x 6 years.
ALSO .... Kucherov just signed for $9,500,000 x 8 .... after getting 100 POINTS .... so Marner needs a DAMN good season to be anywhere near that.</div></div>
CHILL DUDE! It was just an opinion, and i'm not even a leafs fan (if that calms you down more).
Maybe Nylander get's something in the $6-$7 million range. Pastrnak and Ehlers signed their extension last year BEFORE the cap increase was confirmed. All 3 players you listed as comparable are indeed valid. Larkin's contract still baffles me cause I think the Wings really got a good deal there. All these player's can easily be in the $7-$7.5 range with the way things have been going recently.
Kucherov took a MAJOR cut to help Tampa. The guy could have easily got above $10.5-$11 mil

I highly doubt that to be honest. My guess would be that
Matthews gets $11.5 x 8 years (he won't get exactly what McDavid did, but he'll be close. I also think he will only settle for more than Tavares)
Marner gets $9.5 x 8
Nylander gets $7.5 x 6
Give me a +/- of $0.5mil and I think i've nailed it. They're going to get a $2 mil difference in each of their contracts. Matthews and Marner are going to be the Toronto dynamic duo. Nylander is great but he's the most expendable of the three so the contract will probably reflect that

No need to add Mete or anything else in the deal. The trade should be Patches for Girard + 2019 1st
Soderberg is a cap dump for them so we should not be giving up Mete and a bunch of picks. I'll take him if they need cap space but they should be paying us to take him. not the other way around

Duchene -- or Pacioretty?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bf3351</b></div><div>I like the post. You're probably one of my favorite people on here, always giving respectful constructive criticism. So here's what I think: I would rather have Duchene, he's younger, he can play LW, and C. That would give is flexibility. I feel like we'd be able to get him locked in cheaper and longer than with Patches. Could you imagine how good Duchene would be playing with Kopitar, Brown, Carter, Kovalchuk, Doughty, and Toffoli??? The fact Patches turned is down already doesn't sit well with me. He's 30 and counting. Yes I'm certain he'd do amazing playing with the Kings, but I think we'd get better years from Duchene.</div></div>
I tend to agree with this to a certain extent. Duchene is younger and has the upside of being a C but I think him and Patches would get roughly the same money ($8Mil +/- $0.5M). I also think it would require a lot more to acquire Duchene from Ottawa than Patches from Montreal.
With Carter and Kopitar locked up for a while I think it's better to go for Patches due to LAs lack of winger depth. You guys have a lot of solid prospects coming up but it would be very beneficial to get a goal scoring Vet to lock up that number 1 spot. Duchene could do the job but I'm usually against playing high end Cs in the winger position because you'r overpaying for where you're going to use him. However, if the plan is the move away from Carter soon, I would for sure go for Duchene.

I like Määttä, he would be a fantastic 2LD on the Habs. Solid player and young, perfect for a redeveloping team. That being said, your offer isn't exactly worth it. If you're trying to offload Hagelin for cap space, I rather just upgrade the pick to a 1st and retain 50% on Patches in that regard. (if you really want to offload Hagelin, we can easily help but that doesn't add value to the trade cause he's a UFA next season and we have too many LWs.. Rather develop our own players

It really depend son development but as of right now, Mete is a 2nd pairing LD and Reilly is a 3rd pairing LD. I'd be super happy with both at that position but we still (desperately) need a number 1 LD

First of all, why are you already dismissing Peca? He's a young and really fast C whose put up decent numbers in his short NHL career playing on the 3rd/4th line of a very strong squad. Remeber how Byron became our gem, could happen again.
Secondly, the trade to LA is ripping them off. Alternatively, we are weak on RW and really need Scherback to develop. A trade involving LA would most likely be Patches (50% retained) for Clague (+ some picks to offset).

Well then my message to him is to realize value sometimes is in quality more than quantity. I mean all the players he chose in the trade are good in their own rights but I'f i have to trade arguably the best D in the league I want someone that I know is a future star in return... especially if they're asking for salary retention this year. Just my opinion but I don;t know all the back end details of the sens situation

In terms of the Habs trade, not bad honestly.
In terms of the Ottawa trade, I find it hard to believe that the trade happens (especially if they're retaining money like you suggested) without giving up one of DeBrincat or Schmaltz. If i'm the senators I don't even entertain an offer unless 1 of them and a 2019 1st starts the package.
