<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>An odd sentiment in light of the fact that if Kent Johnson plays in 70 games next season, he would have to record <strong>87 points</strong> to equal Zegras' production through 200 games. And that includes 14 games this season in which Zegras struggled with a groin injury eventually sufficiently serious to put him on the LTIR list for 6 weeks, 5 games at full health and then a 20th game this season in which he broke his ankle in his third shift (after two minutes' time on ice).

Another way to put it: Zegras has roughly 250% of the goals, roughly 250% of the assists, and roughly 250% of the points as Johnson in 133% more games.

Johnson is a fine prospect. Johnson will improve next season. Zegras at LW and Johnson at C would be magical. But saying that Johnson would make Zegras redundant is, to put it charitably, counter-intuitive and counter-empirical.</div></div>

I mean yes but zegras is making a lot more money and has less years of team control left. They are both similar styles of play and neither are true centers. Putting them on a line together would be fun to watch but would also give up a ton of goals. Also Kent johnson has half the career TOI that zegras does the numbers are much closer when you look at per 60. So zegras has 250% more goals and assists with 200% more ice time. Kent has a similar goal scoring ability with a very slightly higher shooting percentage on less shots. I’d say zegras is better right now but they have about the same ceilings. Zegras is a better playmaker while Kent is better defensively. Regardless it doesn’t make sense for the jackets to trade for zegras. Especially not for a top 5 pick.
