Thread: 3-way trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I think recency bias is at play, too. He had a terrible year this past season because of two dirty hits that knocked him out for the season. But he's played the majority of games even if he hasn't played a full season each of the other years here, and has performed pretty well.

I'm not expecting anyone to take a chance on Laine, but I'm also not expecting Columbus to move him. But it would take a good offer (like a 1st-line return) to move a guy who's been a 1st liner when in the lineup. I could also see conditional picks (like two 2nds, and one upgrades to a first if he plays 60+ games, the other upgrades if he scores 25+ goals, for example). Something to mitigate the risk for both teams.

It's all about mitigating risk; there's high risk for an acquiring team that he stays injured or can't regain form. There's medium risk he bounces back elsewhere and Columbus sells low on an asset we should have held onto. But there's zero risk in Columbus keeping him, his trade value won't go much lower, and we need a player like Laine anyway. That's why we should keep him instead of selling low.</div></div>

That is an entirely fair point.

I agree with the conditionnal picks that may mitigate risks. My understanding is that he had alcohol/drugs/mental health issues - not a hockey play injury. Because, a dirty hit does not devalue a player in IMO.

Again, not sure about the 1 for 1 - but a decent package is to be expected.
