Bored and playing around again
Trying to fleece Stevie Y. seems improbable. He could have had Schmidt for a 3rd before, why would he want him now? Seems like the Wings are in on Petry. They can bring back Staal and De Keyser, bring up Edvinsson who is a blue chip prospect, and still have Mac Isaac for depth. If I am Stevie Y. I'm looking at spending money on a guy like Palat or Copp, not Schmidt.
Jets have never traded a developing prospect that didn't ask to be traded, and with Gustafsson wearing the A on the Moose, pretty sure he's joining the big leagues next year. Barron isn't jumping ahead of Lowry, he might be his winger. Nothing indicates that the Jets are planning to make him a 3C.
I like getting Pulock for Scheifele. Addresses a need. But the one guy who could probably convince Strome to sign here is Scheifele. That would be the biggest free agent signing in Jets history. I'm not optimistic about improving the Jets in free agency.

Assuming Chevy does nothing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BatVader</b></div><div>These moves do nothing for WPG…while they don’t hurt us, they don’t help either.
I wouldn’t do them.
If your intent on trading Vesalainen, which i agree with as he needs a change of scenery, then at least trade him for some value.
I’d try VGK for Nolan Patrick or PHI for Owen Tippett</div></div>
Reality is that Vesalainen probably won't come back to the Jets. Gustafsson is definitely coming up to the team next year. So you either move Harkins or Vesalainen, because there's still a roster spot available for a Kovacevic, Barron, Heinola, Reichel to fill. Let's say Vesalainen doesn't get a 1 way contract with the Jets, so he decides to go play in Finland again. Jets lose him for nothing. Same as Nathan Smith getting something instead of nothing is a win. I'd say the same scenario might be in store for Gawanke. Does he want another $70 000 season, does he get a raise from the Jets, at least double the AHL salary? I'd be more inclined to keep him, because he's been good with Chisholm, but with Tyrel Bauer coming into the lineup next year somebody has to move off the Moose, if Kovacevic goes up, fine, but then that's 23 players then, and which of the other ones would Vesalainen knock off? None, in my opinion. Time to move on, call a bust a bust. I don't think his skating is good enough, and I definitely don't think he has anywhere near the value of Patrick or Tippett, I'm sorry. I edited this post anyways cancelling the Gawanke trade, but moving Dillon instead, to build up picks in the system. And to give room to Heinola to move up to the #8 spot on the depth chart.. Signed a tougher player for the bottom lines than Vesalainen, which I think might be something Chevy looks at.

Something for everyone
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>No from Winnipeg. The Jets might have interest in Tippett, but there is no reason to overpay drastically for him.</div></div>
Considering Schmidt has been traded for 3rd round picks in consecutive years, there may be a problem with him. I would move him to bring up Heinola in an instant. Heinola can audition at RD, or if the Jets find themselves needing a RD they can transition Dillon or Morrissey to ease him in. For the Yotes who haven't exactly been gamebusters on the free agency market, and are about to lose alot of UFAS, Schmidt replacing Chcycrun would only put the Yotes at $38 million in Salary Cap (11 players) for 2022-23, so still a good ways from the minimum floor, and he'd be a #2 behind Ghost, whereas he is an overpaid #3-5 in Winnipeg.

Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Canoehead</b></div><div><strong>Blackhawks</strong>: I can't see them doing that trade, as the new Chicago GM wants to rebuild the team. The term of Wheeler and Schmidt don't fit that view and Toews only has one year left on his contract after this one.
<strong>Senators</strong>: Jets decline, with Cheveldayoff telling LeBrun, "I spent a long time trying to get top-two centremen like we have right now with Scheif and (Pierre-Luc) Dubois. That’s a real tough combination when we’re going well to play against"
<strong>Flyers</strong>: Jets decline. No chance the Jets have any chance of making the playoffs in the near term without Hellebuyck.
<strong>Blue Jackets</strong>: Not sure what the thought process is behind that trade idea.
<strong>Maple Leafs</strong>: Jets decline. No need to move Berdin, let him continue to develop on the Moose.</div></div>
Jets problem is they are 2 years away from losing several core players (Scheifele, Hellebuyck, Wheeler, De Melo). The injury excuse is valid for the team's struggles this year, but they have been struggling from mediocrity (the minuses behind Scheifele and Wheeler's stat line, and Hellebuyck has leveled off this year) for some time. Another year of medicority pushes the team to trading players whose value could further depreciate. At this point with the investment that was made this year I think this team needs a shakeup. Dubois is ready to take over the reigns as #1 C, and I don't think Scheifele is ready to become second fiddle, so unless you make him a winger on the top line, I think it's time to change things up. I don't think the changes will be this drastic, True North has only traded when forced to, but I do think this team needs some fresh young legs to make them as exciting as they were in 2017-2018

Adding draft picks
The Jets recent drafts, which have seen multiple picks traded away, have thinned out the talent pool, in replacing departing players. For a draft and develop team this has had repercussions, as seen with the lack of depth scoring.
The Jets should get at least a 2nd and 3rd for Copp and Stastny respectively, maybe a 7th for Beaulieu. But should Chevy be aggressive once he opens up some Cap space and take some UFA salaries at 50%, as a 3rd party, for extra picks?

Is the 2021 Jets defence the worst defence of all time?
The Jets had a defense 2 years ago that was Morrissey-De Melo, Kulikov-Pionk, Beaulieu-Poolman, with Sbisa and Bitetto in reserve. Dillon is better than Kulikov, Samberg/Stanley are better than Beaulieu when they play, and Schmidt is marginally better than Poolman, though I am not a fan of his soft defense. This team lacks forward depth more than anything. Playing Beaulieu though is striving for the tank.

I think there are 2 d-men that should get a 1st. Chycrun and Hampus Lindholm. The next tier are John Klingberg (if he is available), Leddy, Josh Manson, Chiarot. Giordano might get a decent pick too. Jets are too soft to consider trading Dillon. I'd like to trade Nate Schmidt on the other hand to make room for Heinola, but that's probably in the offseason.

I don't know dude the Jets are already short on forwards and you added two more d-men to the roster (pretty good ones albeit). I'd keep Scheifele as long as he can score goals. Jets have a hard enough time scoring.

What's the deal with Blake Wheeler
Blake Wheeler was Paul Maurice's leader. I think the team is going in a different direction now. The reigns are being handed over. At this point I think True North has to buy out Wheeler next year. It would cost the team $9.833,333 million in total to buy him out next year vs. $14,750,000 in actual salary (4 years vs. 2). After paying him $10 million in salary this year, I think that's the watermark of Blake's contract. In terms of Cap Hit it would be an extra $1.75 million next year on top $2, 458, 333 over 4 years, to make up for his lesser salary.
With the window for the Jets closing quickly, I think Chevy needs some breathing room Cap wise to make improvements. I suspect this is Blake Wheeler's last year as a Jet.

He was putting up good numbers on the farm. I'd try different options, Gus, Middlestadt, Harkins, but for me Gus's 2 way game is alot like Eakin's which has proved successful, whereas a softer player like Little isn't a good fit. Can't be deceived by Gus's poor numbers with the Jets playing with the like of Shaw, Bourque, Luoto, etc. I have a feeling last season was an integration process.

Yeah I don't really like that scenario. But I think there is something fishy in the room, that makes Buff an outsider. And he doesn't want to play here, Jets either terminate him, or trade him. I can't see him wanting to go far, since fishing Lake of the Woods is what he likes to do. I was trying to get the Jets a draft pick out of him at least, because the cupboards are really getting bare. 4 draft picks in a strong draft, hard to make an impact like 2015.

You have to factor in bonuses, I don't know if there is a way to do that in the Create Team app. Doesn't matter if the cap hit is less. If the player obtains the bonuses, he gets them. If the bonuses exceed the Cap, that money is taken off the Cap for then next season. So it's good way to budget. I don't think the Jets have overran the Cap yet, because they don't generally pay bonuses. But Samberg is going to get bonuses, or he simply goes back to College for one more year, becomes an unrestricted UFA.

Makar's AAV with bonuses is 2.8 million Fox is 1.775 million. I think Samberg is between them, maybe I am off by a few hundred thousand, but not way off. And I don't know what the offseason will bring for Buff. Maybe the Jets just terminate his contract. I'd be trying to get something for him, especially if you think he is going to sign with a rival. I may be wrong in his value though, it's a unique situation.

Harkins is no where close to being 2C.</div></div>
Samberg is going to get a contract similar to Makar and Fox. Which is burning the first year as a bonus. Jets will have to give him some bonuses to get him to sign.
Harkins is probably not a 2c but he deserves a look. Jets can move a few players into that spot. I think Gustafsson is another candidate. It's Little's contract that looms big. No one knows where he is at. I was just trying to do a budget team with him in consideration, if he returns.
I have no idea what Minnesota would do. I think Buff can control where he goes, and I don't think he really wants to go far, but who knows? For Minnesota that's a good trade, they get the better player for cheap. And a guy who scares the bejeesus out of half the league. I was trying to get draft picks for the Jets, which I think they really need.

They bridged Morrissey, who is clearly worth more than
most of the defensemen on the Jets. I don't think it is inconceivable that Connor gets bridged. A team that spend all its money on wingers, usually doesn't win. Centres, defense, goaltending those are the key positions.

WINNIPEG 2019-20
There is no chance that we re-sign both Trouba and Myers, and then flip Myers. That's just fantasy. And Trouba won't sign for 6 years to play in Winnipeg. Writing is on the wall. Hayes is a nice add, but I don't think you trade Little, because then you go back to having no depth at centre, which is why you traded for Hayes in the first place. Beaulieu earned $2.4 million, if you qualify him he makes that much, if you don't he can get more than a $1 million on the market.
