Yep, dump Smith and bring in a guy on his ELC. Gives you another $2.25-$2.5 million to work with.

With this lineup, take out one of the scratches and you have about $2.25 million to sign Williams. If he wants to play, he would sign for that.

My thought with it is he needs to play in the top six, but he also has to be with players that are very responsible defensively. That's why he is with Toews and Saad.

It's relatively big compared to what has happened so far. This and Muzzin are easily the biggest moves in a while.

Deadline selloff
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Because Gus is on a very friendly contract of $1.2M. He has single handily turned around the powerplay. Paired up with a stay at home defender (Murphy) he looks good. We can always move him next season too.
Keith is movable because Seabs is not and we don't need 2 veterans leading the locker room. That said, highly unlikely Keith waves to go anywhere but closer to his family and kids in Canada.
Making this defense worse is not the goal especially with Krys, Mitchell and Boqvist coming up and a young Jokiharju. Forsling is a crap shoot and Dahlstrom is a borderline 3rd line guy.</div></div>
This team isn't going anywhere in the next couple years...might as well maximize your assets while you can. Like I said, the defense is brutal as it is. Losing Gus doesn't hurt that (the DEFENSE) at all. Yes, losing Keith would hurt, but again, have to look toward the future now. If those two guys can get you nice pieces for the future, you have to strongly consider it, at least. Neither has a long-term place on this team, IMO.

Move Kunitz for a 5th to 7th rounder.
Edmonton would need us to take a cap hit back to swallow Saad's contract. Likely a player (Tobias) at a minimum and maybe retaining on Saad a little.</div></div>
Why would you not move Keith and Gus? Yes, the defense will be even worse than it is now, but this team is horrible even with them. Move on and look to the future to get this team back to contention.

Contend Again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CrazyK04</b></div><div>One critique, buddy. Schmaltz should be getting 6 or 7 years around 6 mil, similar to Dylan Larkin. Bowman and Q have repeatedly expressed their want to sign him long term. I really like the young defensive core. I think if it comes down to Gus and Beaudin, it would be Beaudin. Ian Mitchell should be able to make the team next year. Delia couldprobably be the starter too, Crow doesn't have much left in him, he is 34. It'd be nice to see Nalimov and Delia as the 1-2 punch goalie wise. I'd also like to make the argument for Jake Wise. They kid is a beast! I have no doubt he'll crack the team next year. I love where Chicago is going. They have so many incredible prospects, It's gonna come down to Saad, Pearson in this case, and honestly, Toews. What's gonna happen with Saad and Toews, I dont know. Schmalz is ready to go 1st line if necessary, their team is gonna be stacked ina few years.</div></div>
I am as big a fan of Jake Wise as there is. He is not making the team next year. He probably will not even turn pro at all next year. Very few players turn pro after one year of college. It just doesn't happen, unless it is someone like Toews. Wise is not Toews.

Wouldnt mind me a Gagner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>This is a very inaccurate statement. In 2019 they are shedding Ward, Kunitz, and Kruger (at least $1.5M if they re-sign him next year), plus Murphy or Manning is likely out. That alone is more then enough to sign Schmaltz at $6M. Then add the space they have this year, $5M give or take, plus a cap increase of $2M. Without making any big moves, that should leave them around $10M free with Schmaltz at $6M signed. Let's not forget, there is a pretty high probability they move AA on top of that at the TDL or next off season and there's another $4.5M. Hawks have more then enough to sign a big name UFA.</div></div>
Then there's ADB the year after. It's not impossible to sign someone in free agency, just might not be that smart.

Settle down, Panarin is not coming back. Also, they are not going to load up on a UFA because they have to sign Schmaltz. He will probably get $5-$6 million. They don't have money to sign a big name UFA.

Looks like it will be 12-19-24, 20-8-88, 14-15-64, 29-62-16 with Hayden being the scratch. And Rutta has been the guy rotating in on D. Yes, I know Crow is a long way away still. Can't put him on IR on here for some reason though.

It'll be now. Q is in love with him. And I know, but you can't put goalies on IR on here anymore. So, I just left him and have a roster of 24 to show he would be on IR.

('13-14 I believe). The Hawks last year with Quenneville? Enough said. Yeah, it takes the GM, HC and the players all to do their respective jobs in order to have any kind of success. For a team unable to win a playoff round since 2015, I'd say it's just about time to move on wherever you can from.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CrazyK04</b></div><div>Nick, I agree. Not necessarily my changes, but the year ahead with the roster in rl is gonna be ba. I don't know if Q should go. He's still a really good coach. I think it is Bowmna that should go. I've been calling for his head for years so honestly, if they miss the playoffs, get another top 10 pick, and fire Bowman, I wouldn't call the year a complete failure.</div></div>
Q is an amazing coach for a team looking to contend. That is not the Blackhawks anymore. Just because he is a good coach does not mean he is the right coach. He needs to go if they really want to "rebuild" as it seems they are. If you are focusing on developing young talent, Q is not the right coach for that. And Bowman should have been gone a long time ago. He only looks somewhat okay because of Mark Kelley.

They were not in a playoff spot when Crawford went down with the injury, so even if he is his normal self (which he likely will not be), they NEED Toews to have a Kopitar-like bounce-back year. Oh, and that doesn't include the defense is no better now than last year. Brandon Manning changes nothing.

To us, Jokiharju holds more value. He is younger, equally close to cracking an NHL lineup, and has put up dominant numbers in the WHL at a younger age than Bean. Bean has trended down since being drafted and Jokiharju has trended up. Bean's best WHL season was his draft season; his production has dropped since. Jokiharju's production increased greatly after being drafted. We would be willing to do a deal, but it would likely need to either have more pieces going both ways or be Bean + for Jokiharju.
