Islanders Offseason Plan
Rangers don't do this either. Not only is Buchnevich worth more than Toews and Ho-Sang (he was on pace for 55 points last year), you also want us to retain salary? Hard Pass

I don't think ADA takes that contract (he will make at least 5M) and this is just me, but I wouldn't base the roster on Miller, Lundell and Kravtsov making the roster because they will both likely spend at least a bit of the year in the AHL, LIIGA and KHL respectively. I also wouldn't trust Kaapo to be a top line player, he wasn't great last year and I can understand putting him on the 2nd line but I don't think he is ready for the top line yet.

i would be very happy with this team
The Rangers need to have enough cap space to pay their bonuses which is at least around 4 million and I don't think Byfuglien would come out of retirement to be a 3rd pairing d-man.

Yes, Deangelo is an idiot who has shown bigoted and homophobic views but there are plenty of NHL players who have similarly shown support of the political figures and views that ADA supports (Eichel, Domi, Matthews, Johnson etc.) and none of them are valued less by the NHL because of it and it doesn't seem that ADA is either. The Flames have shown interest in trading Monahan and they have players like Lindholm and Backlund to use at center. I understand if you do not like Deangelo's political views (I don't either) but that doesn't mean that this trade doesn't work for both sides.

He could accept $5M from Tampa and still take home as much as from the Rangers.</div></div>
While he would theoretically only make 100k less in Tampa if he took that offer of 5M, the tax code is a lot more complicated than that due to jock taxes and the ability to live outside of NYC so that you don't have to pay all of those taxes. When you also account for the bigger market in NYC and the larger potential for merchandise sales and sponsorship deals, Sergachev would likely make significantly more with that offer than the Lightning offering him 5M. However, take this with a grain of salt because I don't know much about the financial workings of NHL players.

IDK what you think Monahan is worth but if you think that a 24 yo defenseman who was on pace to put up 60 points last year (and put up 5 more points than Monahan) and the 22nd overall pick is a horrible trade for Monahan than you really are overvaluing Monahan. Everyone can talk about Deangelo's character and political opinions but his teammates seem to like him, he isn't a locker room problem nor is he a problem whatsoever for the team so that won't affect his trade value.
I'd understand someone saying the Rangers overpaid here or that one of the other trades could use some work but this take is just bad.

Realistic TB Offseason
Not only is this hoping that Sergachev, Cernak and Cirelli take at least a 1 million dollar paycut, it also has Bogosian taking a paycut of around 1-1.5 million which I cannot see happening. I just cannot see a way that the Lightning are able to bring back all 3 of their RFAs and they might not even be able to bring back two of them if players like Johnson refuse to waive their NMCs. Johnson also might not even bring back positive value and you might have to give up picks to offload him as he is a 3rd liner making a lot of money in a time where almost every team does not have enough cap space.
There are plenty of teams that will be willing to pay Sergachev, Cernak, Cirelli and Bogosian a lot more than that and it doesn't really make sense for any of them to take those deals when they can join another team that is contending while getting paid a lot more. And that isn't even touching Maroon and Ryan making less than 900,000 per year.

HockeyCampire Rangers 20-21 Roster
I just don't believe that the Rangers would trade away Georgiev AND buyout Lundqvist. If the Rangers trade away Georgiev it only makes sense (both for the salary cap, Lundqvist and the Rangers) to let Lundqvist back up Shesterkin next year and play out his contract with the Rangers. Only other things I'd say about this is it would be a failure of the Rangers' FO if Brendan Smith went into the year as a starting defenseman and we don't really need Nordstrom as Lemieux is definitely going to be on the roster and we already have Di Giuseppe to be an extra forward.

I don't think that is enough for Deangelo since he scored 60 pts last year and Steel is a 3rd line center who might become a 2nd line center one day. I don't think a 3rd is enough to bridge the difference between them but that's just me.

Last year ADA had a +2.48% relative Corsi (to the rest of the team), a 3.2 Defensive Point Share, +2.6% relative Fenwick and 43 xGA last year. Even taking into account 56.3% of his shifts starting in the offensive zone, he isn't that bad of a defender and had around an average defensive season. Combine that with his superb offense and he is an extremely valuable player at only 24 years of age. Compared to Henrique, who is coming off possibly the best season of his career at age 29, Deangelo is the far superior player, is younger and is going to cost about as much as Henrique will despite not being as likely to decline.

What do you think a fair trade is for Puljujarvi considering his situation with the Oilers? I know some Oilers fans want a 1st for him but I find it hard to believe that any NHL team will give up a first for a player who refuses to play for their team, especially with them likely to lose him for nothing in the Vegas expansion draft.
Edit: I know that Mark Spector said that they were going to be able to sign Puljujarvi but the week after he reupped his contract in Finland and no one else has confirmed Spector at all.

I mean the Kapanen trade was universally considered an overpay and despite Domi being the better player he will be paid 2.5 million more than Kapanen for the next two years and he wants to leave so I don't think it is a stretch to say that they would fetch similar returns. Maybe a 4th or a B/C level prospect (Andersson?) should be added but I don't think this will be all that far off from what you will actually get.

The Probable Offseason At This Point
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StLHockey</b></div><div>Why does this deal make sense?
The Blues do not need to trade for a goalie. They’ll either sign a proven backup or let one of the 3 prospects they have be the backup to Binner. Secondly, if we trade Dunn why take a worse replacement? So we get a backup goalie and a bottom pairing defenseman. If the Blues move Dunn...if a huge if...they’ll look t upgrade offensively. They have zero need for goalies or unproven D. Especially with Perunovich, Mikkola and Reinke all looking to make the jump to the NHL this coming year</div></div>
Out of curiosity, do you see Hofer, Zhrenko or Ellis being able to play in the NHL next year? I was given the impression that they are all still a fair bit away from the NHL but I haven't watched them all that much

It's less that we want to get rid of him and more we don't need him. We have two very good offensive d-men on the right side in Fox and Trouba with another on the way in Lundkvist so we don't really need Deangelo. With Deangelo potentially looking at getting 6M per year, we don't want to pay that much for something that we don't need so that is why we are looking to trade him.

+ 1st (2021 mid round)
+ 2nd
+ 3rd

That's pretty good value, especially since there's a great chance Gaudreau extends in NYR.</div></div>
Gaudreau might be worth 2 firsts at peak value but the trade doesn't make sense for the Rangers whatsoever. Why give up Lafreniere making under 1 million for 3 years for worse prospects and Gaudreau who is several years older, due for a raise soon, plays a style of hockey that likely won't age well and gets paid much more the Lafreniere during a time when there might be a flat cap for the next several years? The Rangers won't want to trade the 1OA for anything other than a massive overpay which would include draft picks, young players and players that fit the Rangers current needs. This offer just simply is not that and without any guarantee that Gaudreau resigns in NY, the deal is a high risk low reward deal that the Rangers don't want to entertain right now.
I hope I don't sound too harsh and honestly it might be fair in a vacuum, but it just doesn't fit the current situation or the Rangers' timeframe

With the prospects coming up on the left side of the blueline he would, in essence, be a stopgap considering he is a 2nd/3rd pairing defender. I don't see how he isn't unseated by 3 of Lindgren, Jones, Miller, Robertson, Reunanen or anyone other defensemen we pick up. He does have a long career in the NHL ahead of him and he is a good defensemen, but I don't see him sticking around long-term for the Rangers if this move did happen.
