Hawks aern't ready to hand out those kinds of deals yet, especially not for monahan. We'll gladly overpay by a mil in the short term though.

Two years out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlickWilly</b></div><div>If the kids arent getting extensions to make the Jones contract at least a little bit of a problem in the next 7 years, then the rebuild was unsuccessful. All these first round picks, you'd hope the average on their first extensions after the ELC is around 5 million (Bedard and Demidov become stars and make upwards of 8-9 mil, Nazar/Korchinski/Moore/Rinzel all a bit lower). Throw in a upper tier free agent signing, in this scenario its Rantanen, if these guys arent forcing an issue to at least make some tough decisions, then we have an issue.</div></div>
Jones deal is 6 years left after this current year finishes in the next 2 weeks. A bucnh of the guys you mentioned haven't even signed ELC's yet. That plus the cap rising, we shouldn't be pushing the cieling by then. I get what you are saying and would agree but I think your timing is off. Demidov wouldn't even be eligible to sign a 3 year ELC until 2025, a top pick in the 2025 draft won't sign until 2026, NAzar, Rinzel, Moore, etc are all still in college. I get that they will all be signed and starting second deals by then but all these guys in their early 20s starting 2nd deals won't push us to 90+ mil in cap. Like you said Bedard and (hopefully) Demidov sign big deals right away but all the other guys are more than likely bridged. Look at a team like BUF for example who is probably a few years ahead of us. They have guys like Power amd Dahlin entering a big 2nd deal, and a bunch of those forwards are coming into 2nd deals soon but the 9M Skinner contrcat with 4 years left is a non issue. BUF will have plenty of cap down the line to sign all these guys (22M, 36M, 46M in the next 3 seasons), and they are already paying Dahlin 11M, Power 8.3M, and cozens 7M not to mention the rest of their roster.
All this to say the Jones deal is expensive but still a non issue. He's not worth his contract or what we paid but he's still a top pair D regardless which we need anyways.

Who to bring back
No need for Lafferty imo, Joey Anderson has more than earned a spot here. If anything maybe Slaggart starts in the AHL. Him and Ludwinski together down there would be fun. Probably don't bring back Blackwell either, the way Guttman is dominating the AHL I think he will earn a full time spot in the NHL. Something like this makes sense to me:
Hall-Bedard-Kurashev
Reichel- Dickinson - AA
Foligno - Guttman- Anderson
Slaggart - Donato - Macker
Vlasic - Jones
KK - UFA D
Kaiser - Murphy

Offer sheets only work when you drastically overpay like Kotkaniemi at 6.1M. Your offer sheet isnt even close enough to be considered and Chicago isnt Carolina. Those winters in Chicago are terrible, the travel schedule in the West is terrible and the team is beyond terrible. Chicago is the worst spot in the league to think a player signs an OS
LMAO</div></div>
I mean... Sharks, Ducks, Jackets, Senators, Yotes, Flames, Jets. Just to name a few. Come on man if you hate the hawks just say it. This started with some legitimate reasons why the OS doesn't make sense which was cool, then just turned in to how the travel schedule sucks lol. Make it make sense

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Andy_Dick</b></div><div>No one is accepting an offer sheet to go to Chicago. People here dont understand that the player has to sign the offer sheet. I'd love to hear the stories of where players didnt sign much like Mitch Marner didnt sign an offer sheet at huge money in Columbus as has been widely reported.
LOL of course you think the Hawks can spare a 2nd. That is a nothing burger for a really good player like Lundell. You Chicago fans make me laugh continually here with the delusion. You all think everyone is a cap dump and Bedard can survive playing with 4th rounders and they dont need to insulate him by trading for actual talent because every draft pick isn't a guaranteed NHl'r.</div></div>
I can see the point to be made that short term Florida is a much better place to play than chicago, but lets not act like it's so bad that no one would sign here either. Major market, Connor Bedard plus another top pick coming. Willingness to pay more money than other teams. And over the next decade the hawks contending window will be longer than Florida's. It's not a completly redicuouls proposition for a 22 year old to come and get more money, more ice time, and when you zoom out a few more years it's a team that will. be much more competitive when a guy like Lundell is in his prime

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IconicHawk</b></div><div>I would prefer Levshunov at 2 over Demidov</div></div>
I don't see it with Levshunov. He's really not good in his own end at all. MSU shelters his big time with O zone starts. He's a good OFD, but not even the best in this class (because that title goes to Parekh). Either way, last thing the hawks need is another OFD> If he was more of a two-way force this could be a different story, but a top line winger is a way bigger priority over OFD imo. And just like last year where Michkov was closer to Bedard in talent than the rest of the class, Demidov is closer to if not just as talented as Celebrini.

If the Canes did nothing about the offersheet on Aho, it would make them look weak and set a bad precedent.</div></div>
Instead they have a 5M cap hit for 6 more years for a guy they're making a healthy scratch? But of course that's so much better than looking weak in the media

Also, this draft isn't as shallow as some people make it seem. The narrative public scouts seem to be pushing is a drop off after Celebrini, which I don't even believe is as drastic as they are making it seem. Moving Lee's contract should cost more than 7 spots. I would maybe trade our own 2024 2nd for 20 spots, and I would definitely move both the VAN and LAK's 2nds, but $7M x 2 years is a HUGE amount of relief to just be handing to any team for such little gain. I'd rather just stay at the TBL pick.</div></div>
I think moving cap will be a little cheaper this summer than it was last year with the cap rising 6-7M

No thanks
I don’t think any team does that</div></div>
Based on any pick chart you want to look at this is an overpay. And those charts are all just based off of former irl trades.
Based on the Sound of Hockey pick value chart: https://soundofhockey.com/2022/06/06/examining-the-value-of-nhl-draft-picks/
Tampa Pick 21 OA: 217.59
34 OA: 121.36
Late 4th: 6.18
<strong>Total Points 345.13</strong>
Buffalo Pick 11OA: 338.98.
So as you can see the trade above is basically dead even, if not favoring BUF a little. If you don't like it that's fine but to say no team does this just isn't correct.

I'd hate giving up Phillips in the Mikheyev deal. He should take that 2nd just to move. I'm also hoping Hawks can upgrade from Blackwell and Megna as depth guys.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>I feel like helping the Isles out of a $7M cap hit for the next two seasons should be worth more than that, but I don't exactly hate it, either.</div></div>
Moving up those 8 spots is a pretty big deal in this draft, there's a pretty big drop off outside the top 15 players or so imo. Or course guys always drop but usually not into the 20's. Getting up to 13 could be the difference in getting another Nazar level prospect in the systme. On top of the pick, Lee is still a usable player for the hawks and the 7M doesn't matter the next two years anyways.
Same idea in the VAN deal. Hawks get a useable top 9 guy and also get a 2nd. Phillips has a pretty tough path to the NHL full time behind Vlasic, KK, EDM, Kaiser, and Allen anyways. Personally i'd rather take on guys like Lee and Ilya for more draft capital rather than overpay FA's if we have the option.

I don't see a big fish FA like Lindholm happening. If they want a center maybe they target Monahan or Domi on a short term overpay, or more likely take on someone's cap dump. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Demidov and Lindstrom are completely different players. Lindstrom is better than Demidov at most things, though. Demidov is certainly the more skilled and electrifying offensive forward with superstar potential, but Lindstrom is absolutely the more well rounded, projectable, all situations, 200ft player. If Demidov's offense doesn't translate, which is entirely possible, he will be a bust. Not that I don't love Demidov's game, but it's a risk when drafting high skill offensively geared players.
If you are gonna say "(insert player) is only being considered to be drafted this high because they are big", look no further than Levshunov. That kid is MASSIVELY overrated. Lindstrom is big and it is a clear advantage, but his game is not dependent on his size or physicality. I would even go so far to say that he is better defensively than Levshunov. His motor, compete, confidence, and intelligence are very high. The fact that he already knows how to use his size is a GREAT thing. Most guys get drafted due to size and have no clue how to use it and have to learn on the job and then everyone gets mad when they can't do it.
Again, I don't mind the idea of trading back, but a late 1st two years from now is not enough to get it done.
Also, none of my criticism of Demidov would stop me from drafting him 2nd overall. I would be cool with either player there. And there are a few others that, if CHI did take them at 2nd overall, I would understand and just hope for the best.</div></div>
Totally agree on Levshunov. If we want to take an OFD take Parekh because he's a lot better. Blows the D-1 numbers of guys like Korchinski or Brandt Clarke out of the water. I don't think we need OFD though. Pick will be one of Lindstrom, Demidov, or Catton if they want forward or one of Dickinson or Silayev if they want D.
