old man lou
I would normally be all for the Sharks taking on contracts for old guys, but that Engvall deal really is something.

If we get the second pick
Chicago says no, but the Sharks have absolutely 0 reason to pay someone to take a player. They have infinite cap space, just keep him around. It's not like the team will make the playoffs either way. Don't like the Marchessault signing either, he's 33 and will be 35-36 before the Sharks are even competing again.

Yes, the rebuilding team definitely want to trade away picks for overpaid 30 year old bottom 6 players.

The Sharks say yes, but what's the point of paying to move guys if you aren't going to use the cap space you cleared up?

Rebuilding from the D up
Canadiens don't do that, and neither do the Sharks. Not sure Vlasic would agree to it either. Brendan Dillon at $5.5m seems like a massive overpay, and no chance Pavelski comes back to a Sharks team that is almost certainly going to be in the bottom 5 again next year.

Fitting the Necessary
I don't hate the idea of Kotkaniemi ending up on the Sharks, but don't see them giving up a 2nd for him.

I don't think the Sharks consider that unless they somehow end up picking 5th or worse, which is basically impossible

Why would you buy out a player making $7m, only to turn around and trade for someone just so you can hit the cap floor? Just don't buy out Vlasic, and then you don't need to trade for an LTIRetired guy.

Caufield with Jack Hughes
Why would the Sharks give up a projected middle 6 forward and a 2nd for 2 guys projected to be 3rd pairing defensemen?

The Cap Picture
Why would you ever buy a player out if you aren't in need of cap space? It makes literally 0 sense, all you are doing is extending their cap hits further towards the next window where the team will be good.

I don't think people on this website a really understand how buyouts work, I see this all the time.

Led by youth
I don't hate it, but I am firmly of the opinion that you should never pay goalies. I don't care how good he is now, there is more than a 50% change Saros will be worth significantly less than $8m in the near future. Goalies are unpredictable and weird, man.
Also there's a reasonable chance Couture never plays again, and if he does, there is no way he will be a 1C in 2025.

When you have players you like and don’t really want to move, then you demand a lot and see if someone bites, otherwise no harm no foul.</div></div>
I think it's unlikely that anyone pays a 1st, and I think the Sharks are shooting themselves in the foot if they are waiting for better offers that won't come.

I like Ferarro as much as any other Sharks fan, but I don't think he is worth a 1st+. If the 1st is a sticking point in a Ferarro trade, I don't see it happening considering how much Tanev got. And yes, I do understand that Ferarro is significantly younger with a multi-year deal.
