Definitely the #16, not #4. It has, but I wonder if teams will look at 30 goals in a 2nd line role the year prior and feel he will get back to that with top 6 minutes.

They've got to move Sutter. But I agree they will probably just bury Spooner. Schaller is going to replace Roussel who will be out until December, and then I expect Schaller is either demoted or moved.

jones and dell worst goalie pairing in the league
He's having a tough year and it would have behooved the Sharks to have gotten some insurance in that position, but Jones has been a solid, steady goaltender throughout his career, so this might just be a blip. But given how good this Sharks team is, it was a bad year to have a down year. If they were going to make a move, I would have replaced Dell so that there was a viable option should Jones falter. I don't think Jones is going anywhere given the season he has had and his salary. Jimmy Howard is not an upgrade.

LETS PLAY A GAME Whats that Pick Worth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SDR</b></div><div>didn't read the rules, huh? :squinty
That's definitely reasonable.
Edit: I think they would probably want a younger roster D-man (Hutton) in your trade scenario over Demko/Juolevi or something like maybe Markstrom and the 10th if Varlamov and Grubauer get ventilated in the playoffs
Would prefer to move Hutton. Heard Colorado was interested in him before.
It's not, it might be REALLY difficult for picks 1,2 and maybe 3, but obviously 4&5 are in play from the post above yours.
I don't expect there to BE an "answer" for 1-3, but a creative person would use that standalone deal as a way of working in a better offer.
Burke had to make a number of trades to get the Sedin's at 1&2, think outside the box. Geez.:-/</div></div>

Virtanen, Juolevi/Demko & 10th for Colorado's 4th or something starting with that. I really don't think any of the other teams will deal.

Perfectly fine with the first two trades. Slight overpay for Pionk, would like a pick coming back in addition. No DiPietro, but otherwise fine with the Sutter trade.

If Vesey is available for a 4th, the Canucks do that in a heartbeat. He's a 1 year flyer given that I'm not sure if he would want to be in Vancouver long term, but it would be worth the risk for the Canucks at that price.

Interesting option on Edler and offseason moves
I think that is an interesting point on Boeser. You could pay up now and hope he fills in or go to 2 yrs. $5m kind of thing like you suggested and wait to see and time his extension with EP's. It would be nice to see him perform in a fully healthy season before committing term and $.
For everything else here is what I would do.
For Edler: 2 yrs @ $6.5m or 3 yrs @ $5.5m with NMC protection for two years and NTC for the final year so the Canucks don't waste a protection slot. I doubt Seattle would take him at his age and with his durability in question. Going 6 years, even at $2.5m, is suicide because he is only going to get worse, not better.
Hughes: I would delay his start time as long as possible to keep him under 10 games so he is exempt from the expansion draft. The Canucks are likely going to miss the playoffs and Hughes is expected to join the team by mid March. Assuming he signs around March 13th, I would give a week of practice before playing him so that he is not eligible. He will still get his 1 year of ELC burned off.
I agree Goldy gets a 1 year show me deal. But Hutton I think commands $4m+ over 3-4 years or is traded. He has been really good with Stecher and we're seeing him play some of his best hockey lately. He also has arbitration rights and isn't likely going to settle for a 1 year deal.
Canucks should go 3 yrs $1.5-$2.5m with Demko similar to deals that Gibson and Vasilevskiy got. If he doesn't overtake Markstrom he is on a favourable contract as a backup or moveable asset. If he overtakes Markstrom the Canucks have a super cheap No. 1 netminder for a couple seasons. He has very little leverage other than to ask for a trade but the Canucks don't have to trade him. He's played 2 career games and needs to prove himself.
I think they have to decide between Pearson/Baertschi/Leivo and move one of them and move Sutter and Eriksson if possible. They can handle 1 more year of Eriksson if necessary, but Sutter has to be traded.
I can't the Islanders making that deal for Dobson. I could see them trading one of their current blueliners (not named Boychuk, Leddy or Pulock) for Tanev but not Dobson.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jimmmyg</b></div><div>great trade thought by you! It's interesting going back and seeing who offered who for what players and gets it right. Glad to see your analysis of how it would benefit both teams, too. I would have been okay with giving up Maatta even though I have really liked him for all 5 years that he has been in PIT, mainly because of the reason you stated with the cheaper options down the road. I'm putting my pitchfork down for right now, as whatever happens with the Pens would be a pleasant surprise at this point. Hope you are right!</div></div>
I had no idea that Pearson would end up a Canucks, so I guess I got it right, just 1 for 1 instead of 2 for 2.

McDavids Oilers - speed speed speed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonesryan</b></div><div>why would Arizona, Dallas, and Winnipeg do any of those deal? .. they'd all be a quick no.</div></div>
Well WPG has to move Comrie at some point. Hellebuyck is there long term. I guess if Brossoit leaves then Comrie assumes the role but if Brossoit re-signs then there is no room for him.
Arizona needs an RHD next season and Grabner has not produced at the level they have hoped, I don't think.
The Dallas one can be a legit question mark, but I'm going out on a limb that they try to shake something up with their forward group. But it's fair to question that one.

Goalie needed
Why wouldn't you go after someone like Cam Talbot? Colorado is not gonna trade Varlamov because if one of their goalies gets hot again they will be back in the playoff mix. If Hart is going to be the guy at some point next season, trade as few assets as possible to keep the seat warm until he is fully ready.

I thought that way too but there is no guarantee Howard will want to play here. At 35 how will he adjust to Ian Clark's teachings? He's playing behind a brutal defence and I get the sense he won't want to play in Canada. I do feel Demko should have a mentor, but we need to see if he takes the starting job next season before worrying about whether we should trade for a veteran.
