You already moved Kerfoot & Johnsson in your AGM. My point is, in this scenario, you'd need to move Kapanen and replace him with an inferior $1m player the following season in order for this team to stay intact with that core. It could work, but you're banking on 4 amazing forwards and 3 defensemen to run the entire show. Who knows, that might work, but I'd worry about depth.

Pietro would definitely make a huge difference for the leafs, but they can't have five players in the 7m to 11m range, plus three in the 5m area. They're going to have to lose some cap somewhere in 2021-2022, and there really are no minor pieces on medium sized contracts to give away anymore.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AH96</b></div><div>Interesting concept. I've always said that every 10 points is usually worth 1M for forwards.</div></div>
I think in real life, it's not a straight line because of supply and demand. So players making less than 30pts make less than 3M because there are many of those, while players making more than 60pts make more than 6M because there are few of those.
I'd love to get my hands on a raw dataset so I can run that analysis, I'm sure the trend confirms my suspicions.

Happy to see my initial findings are confirmed. Cup contender teams are well above the cap. Even if I replaced Tarasenko with JDLR, it's about 8M above the cap.
What's fun in this one is that all the lines are more or less the same, except for some shifts in RW.

Cup contending teams bust the cap
Middle-of-the-pack teams respect the cap
Bottom-feeder teams hover around cap floor

The contracts are always 1 year because then the next year a player could get more points to make more money, or vice versa
And I know that not in any world Weber makes 3.3M right now</div></div>
Oh I see, that's a fun idea. Might take it and adapt it. Cheers!

Next years unstoppable team after these signings or moves if needed
Assuming this works, you won't be able to resign Marino the next year. And even then, Murray would sign for more, and I have a feeling some other teams can table a slightly better offer for Krug. I recommend you make one UFA D signing, not two.

Using Cap space
WPG: I don't see them losing a 1st rounder for only one-year of a cap dump (who's still quite useful). There are other avenues available to them.
TBL: I feel like other teams would be willing to offer more for Gourde, but as someone else said, who knows if the NTC will work in our favour. Still skeptical.
COL: Why would Avs trade Girard at all? They have no reason to, and what you're giving doesn't justify them losing a piece they need for their 2020-2021 playoff hopes.

Habs contracts based on last years points
What rationale led you to believe 33pt in 58g as a defenseman justifies a $3.3m contract? Or 46pt in 82g justifies a $4.6m contract? I feel like both Weber and Petry are undervalued here, in terms of comparables
Also this AGM is a fun idea, so I'd love to know more about your process in assigning the $ values. Are these if they all signed a new contract after last year, based on only last year's results? And if so, are non-stat sheet stuff considered (I understood that not)? And if so, is age factored in? And again, if so, does this assume short-term contracts (1yr) or longer term contracts, which get a lower AAV than short-terms?

I know what you're saying, but I really doubt he'd look elsewhere. There is no indication of this happening. Danault loves MTL, it's his hometown team, he's one of the few players on the team that's never egged by fans (wow that's a low bar), etc. Who knows, we could be surprised, but I'm willing to try to sign him, even as a UFA.

Given this, wouldn't that be exactly the type of player TML needs to keep over, say, the also highly skilled Nylander?

Bergeron has never been a 90 or 100point player but has often been top 10 in the league hands down based on his 2 way ability like Danault .
not that i'm saying he'll be Bergeron but more like Bergeron Lite brought to you by Molson Breweries :P
i like Danault because he added weight and just discovered he's not a small guy compared to Byron who hits anyone he can at 5'9 :P
i find he's gotten drastically better in the OZ for it and when Gallagher was out he was battling infront of the net in Gally's house and picked up a few points
Danault over Domi because of consistency and upside fitting our timeline /needs better
both are excellent players though</div></div>
I have a feeling Suzuki is going to turn into an excellent 2-way center. But today is not that day haha :)

Just curious because I don't see a ton of Danault trades on here but I see a lot with Domi.</div></div>
To answer this question, it's because Danault is constantly facing the toughest opposition and improving the play of everybody around him. He's a 50pt player and everything you want from a 2nd line center. Domi and Suzuki just can't take on the defensive challenge while putting up points like Danault can.

Marner Trade Top Defence
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LeafsFanForSomeReason</b></div><div>There are no Dmen available that will make as much of an impact as Marner does. If you were to trade him, this type of deal would be the way to go imo. However, there is no real need to trade Marner. What the Leafs need is an adequate blue line and for the whole team to commit to playing in their own end when they need to. To get that adequate blue line will not require a trade of one of the big 4 contracts, regardless of what people say when the Leafs are struggling.</div></div>
I tend to agree. I think it's possible to win with most of your chips on forwards. In fact, most cup-winning teams in recent memory didn't have an elite top-4, just one star D and many serviceable top-4. And as far as I can think, I don't remember any of the teams that overloaded on D winning (ex: Nashville in 18-19, Carolina, even Panthers). Toronto has Rielly and Muzzin as serviceable top-4. They're on the right track to have what they need in terms of pieces.
But cup-winning teams play as a team, defend as a team, check as a team, and I think that's what I see as missing. It can be coached, you've already got a great set of players to work with.

Why not trade him straight up for a defenseman? I find it odd to downgrade and grab picks along the way. Also, why him specifically as the odd man out?
