If Holland does this, I quit watching hockey.
If Tarasenko was bought-out, he would be a great target at a sub-$2 million deal. Would you pay this much for Skinner in Buffalo?
And Skinner is a much better bet than Tarasenko.

Agreed, the add draft picks are unrealistic, I was too lazy to remove them.
I can see Holland going after Hamilton, but I can figure out how to dispose of Neal and Koskinen other than buyout. If Holland manages to move these contracts, Hamilton will fit.
Kassian to Seattle is in realm of reality, they may see him as a player with trade value, if not roster value. I cannot claim know anything other than that more NHL GMs will value him than fans do.

Benson? I didn't mention him, but I think he is ready. I've watched him in person a few times in Penticton and also an exhibition game VS Calgary. One of the things that that stand out with him, but isn't mentioned much is his effort level.
He is ready, he just needs his coach to believe in him.
Skinner is not ready. He needs to improve his focus/puck-tracking. He has the techniques and physical skill, but needs to improve his awareness. I noticed him "zoning out" and losing his net, lose focus on where the puck is a few times in several games in the A this season.
He is a typical talented young pro who still needs growth, experience and refinement so he can become consistent. Same as it ever was.....

Klefbom will start on LTIR, if he ever even come off of it...
DeAngelo has no value, he won't be seen in the league for a few years, if ever...but Kassian would seems be the correct, if not ironic price. He also played with Nurse in the Soo, so would expect Doc to read him the riot act.
I expect Holland's focus will be on big Dmen, like Hamilton.

In a Flat Cap World - Play the Rookies
I watched most of Bakersfield games this season, Lavoie is still more than a year away. He showed some flashes, but he is really not very interested in Dzone play. He will also take Ozone penalties, but to be honest not all were deserved.
Hopefully he builds on his rookie year and gets better in every part of his game, because he has that amazing shot, he needs to figure out how to get it off with less time and space.
Niemelainen was impressive and might be better than Jones is today, plus he is 6'5"...
Broberg will spend at least a few weeks in the AHL, but Samorukov could surprise, but he is coming off shoulder surgery. Only Holloway and Bouchard can realistically be expected to be contenders for roster spots.
Skinner needs another year in the A, plus he is waiver exempt for 1 more year...

Holland Goes Nuts
I like your thinking, but throwing that kind of money at a less than guaranteed return comes with massive risk. For 1, Sorokin has only played 1 NHL season, with a comrade for moral and mentoring-support, and behind a very structured, veteran team. As well, he turns 26 in the summer, so he isn't a young pro. At this time there are zero Russians on the Oilers roster (Kulikov will not be brought back).
In comparison, Chris Driedger is 27 and has played well over 2 seasons, he is a Western Canadian and will be a fraction of the cost and will sign a 3 or 4 year deal.
Also, the Oilers prospect pool is so shallow... . They need to keep their picks while they can. When they are Cup contenders, they will really need their youth to come in to provide good, cheap reinforcements when they are up against the cap.

Dump on you? They are all useful NHL players and better than most, if not all of the bottom 6ers the Hawks used in 20-21.
Koski is a very good Goaltender when he is rested, he was over-played and Turris was absolutely brutal in the D-zone the first 3 weeks of the season. An NHL 3C would not have allowed so many freebies. Take those games out and MK had a good record.
What is Seabrook but a cap space-eater?

Despite what everyone here thinks, the reality is that Neal is still a very goal PP player and he still is a useful player who could pot 20 goals in a season. He is not fast, put he is more physical than you think and he still has a wicked shot.
He got Covid just before training camp and it took him a few weeks to get back and had some lingering side effects, so he was never 100%. At worst he will cost the Oilers a 3rd to dump him.
He will likely be on the roster next year, but who knows....

I have a few counterpoints. I am a long-time Oilers fan and have been watching hockey, following the NHL draft and prospects and stats for a few decades. It's funny with this here CF team, it was not really a serious attempt, but I would like you to be aware of something, something I've read before that others believe to be fact, while it is actually completely false.
I watched 35 of the Condors 39 games, as well as all 6 of their playoff games. The Pacific Division was not watered down. The only NHL teams that handcuffed themselves with their AHL team this season were Edmonton, Vancouver (both teams were in the US) & Tampa and Florida who shared a team.
In the Pacific Division all the teams had their affiliates very close, some in the same city. A total of 65 players from the Division (not including Bakersfield & Tuscon, who BC did not play) played in the NHL (approximately 21%) of each opponents roster. That is not watered down competition.
When it comes to the 4th line players, here are some numbers for you, this is points per game last 3 yrs of amateur, last 3 of AHL, total NHL and points per 82 games.
1. Shore - 0.93 0.76 0.35 = 29
2. Archibald - 0.84 0.37 0.30 = 25
3. Khaira - 0.98 0.45 0.25 = 21
Here are the same for the AHLers, not including NHL.
1. Marody 1.00 0.92
2. Benson 1.54 0.91
3. McLeod 0.87 0.61
If you don't think any of these players can't do better than 29 points in 82 games, I am sorry, but you haven't been paying attention to the proper things...

I can’t see 97 or 29 being happy with that scenario at all. No chance this happens. They must have 4 lines of NHL players period. The kids can push for a spot and maybe garner some NHL time later in the season. This is a make it or break it Offseason for Edmonton. The single most important off-season in franchise history.</div></div>
The 3 rookies are compromised of the top AHL goal scorer, the player who was 3rd in Assists and their #3 Center (and youngest of the 3). All have NHL experience and all spent time practicing with the team during their time in the bubble last year.
I would rather see:
Benson-McLeod-Marody than
Shore-Kharia-Archibald.

Gusev is a small player not what this team needs. I looked at the possible uptick in scoring with him but again the players size doesn’t fit.
You have way to many kids on this roster and in the end you picked up Hamilton and immediately exited the playoffs. If this team makes the playoffs.
This roster gets a D minus from me…not that my opinion matters…lol</div></div>
You are correct, although that D Corps is championship calibre. Weegar is a substantial defender and Reilly is a very under-rated Dman, an excellent passer and is surprisingly physical.
Regardless, the Skinner contract kills everything, but the rookies are all 3rd and 4th year pros. Not a problem on the 4th line and 3rd pair.I agree that this line up is on the small side.

Yamamoto and Bear are still not yet what they are going to be and they are very good and are cheaper than they will ever be.
Tampa is in trouble with their Cap, if they want to find value in what seems like one-sided deals they may have to take "hits" like this.
See Devon Toews from last season and Nick Leddy from a few years ago.
This is reality, but The Bolts completely dodged that bullet this past season with LTIR providing massive cover for being way above the Cap Ceiling.
There will be lots of great players being moved out by cash crunched teams this summer. TB might not get spared this year.
